Gameweek 1 is over and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are already busy making transfers &#8211; but who were the biggest under-performers of the week and who scored more points than they should have?
Every season, we see the biggest haulers of the previous gameweek brought into hundreds of thousands of teams.
But the secret to success in FPL is to jump on players who are about to score more points &#8211; not chasing points.
So with this in mind, we&#8217;re taking a look at the expected points for FPL Gameweek 1 and highlighting those who were fortunate to score well &#8211; and who perhaps could have netted a haul themselves.
We&#8217;ll then examine an early list of the most popular transfers in and out. Are the early bandwagons worth jumping on &#8211; and are some players being moved on in disgust too early?

<h2>Biggest FPL over-performers of the week</h2>
Here are the top 20 over-performers of the week, according to the difference between their actual and expected points.
We analyse some of the highlights below.

<h3>Bernd Leno (£4.5m)</h3>
Fulham defenders features highly in the top 20 over-performers this week.
But Cottagers&#8217; goalkeeper Leno was right up there, managing just over seven more points than expected.
The German kept a clean sheet and made nine saves &#8211; no other keeper was called into action more.
Everton should have scored. They recorded an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.73, behind only Newcastle and Brighton.
And Leno&#8217;s blushes were arguably saved by the referee. James Tarkowski (£4.5m) was judged to have foul him as he jumped to catch the ball, meaning the goal scored by Michael Keane (£4.5m) was ruled out.
Former referee Mike Dean, appearing on Sky Sports&#8217; Soccer Saturday, argued Tarkowski had done nothing wrong and that the goal should have stood.
We may therefore have to wait a while before declaring Leno as the best £4.5m shot-stopper.

<h3>Erling Haaland (£14.0m)</h3>
Haaland is now in more than 90% of teams, so there&#8217;s not too many left to jump on him.
Overperforming his expected points by seven is unlikely to deter further investment though.
The Norwegian&#8217;s two goals came from an xG of 0.63. His second goal was little more than a half-chance.
But Haaland made a mockery of his 30.06 xG last season, netting 36 times. Very early signs suggest he is on his way to another season of over-performance.

<h3>Harvey Barnes (£6.5m)</h3>
A goal and assist ensured Barnes was the top-scoring midfielder in the £6.5m price bracket.
The Newcastle new boy had a memorable debut, scoring and setting up Callum Wilson (£8.0m) in the Magpies&#8217; 5-1 win over Aston Villa.
The ex-Leicester winger scored 11 points &#8211; an over-performance of 4.4 &#8211; largely because of his xG being just 0.45.
Barnes scored his points in a 22 minute cameo off the bench, so is not yet a nailed-on option.
Anthony Gordon (£5.5m) also had a solid game on the left, making two key passes and managing an assist.
Barnes may have to bide his time before he becomes a reliable, regular starter.

<h3>Neal Maupay (5.0m)</h3>
With Fulham defenders over-performing, it&#8217;s no surprise to see an Everton attacker top this list.
Maupay had four shots, all inside the box, generating an xG of 1.1.
But despite his opportunities, Maupay came away with a blank.

<h3>Nicolas Jackson (£7.0m)</h3>
Chelsea&#8217;s new number nine was booked against Liverpool, ending the game with a single point.
But the signs were promising for the Senegalese striker, who also managed an xG of 1.1.
He had three big chances and was central to the Blues&#8217; attacking threat, with a 53% expected goal involvement.
With their likely toughest fixture out of the way, Chelsea are approaching a kind run of fixtures.
Non-owners may wish to see how he performs against West Ham in Gameweek 2, however a good performance will see Jackson soar in popularity ahead of Luton in Gameweek 3.

<h3>Pascal Gross (£6.5m)</h3>
Gross filled in at full-back in pre-season but he was back to central midfield against Luton in Gameweek 1.
He made six key passes, the second-highest of the week, creating one big chance in the process.
The German had an expected assists (xA) of 0.65, behind teammate Pervis Estupinan (£5.0m) on 1.02.
But Gross in midfield is a player who will quietly tick along with points &#8211; and likely end up among the Seagulls&#8217; points scorers. He had the most FPL points of Brighton players last season.
Joao Pedro (£5.5m) looks to have won the battle for spot-kick duties but there could still be enough there for Gross to prosper and is one to watch.

<h2>Biggest bandwagons: FPL transfers in</h2>
Now we take an early look at the biggest transfers in and out this week.
For now, under-performers like Gross and Jackson have gone under the radar.
Two-goal star Alexander Isak (£7.6m) has seen more than 300,000 managers bring him in.
But buyers beware &#8211; Newcastle face Manchester City in Gameweek 2, followed by Liverpool in Gameweek 3.
The fixtures look kinder from Gameweek 5, when fantasy fans may have a better indication of whether Isak will retain a regular starting spot. Will Callum Wilson (£8.0m) get an equal number of starts?
Gameweek 1 goalscorers including Bukayo Saka (£8.6m) and Joao Pedro (£5.5m) feature high up, as does Rodri (£5.6m).
The City midfielder is not typically a regular on the scoresheet but had more shots on target against Burnley than any of his teammates.
New owners should not expect 13 points per week, unless the Spaniard has had a radical attacking overhaul.

<h2>FPL transfers out</h2>
<a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-gameweek-1-review-2023-24">Injury concerns</a> dominate the transferred-out list, with Kevin De Bruyne (£10.4m), Tyrone Mings (£4.5m) and Jurrien Timber (£5.0m) among the most ditched.
Managers who took a risk on Harry Kane were left high and dry when he joined Bayern Munich.
But it may be a case of moving too early when it comes to Eberechi Eze (£6.5m) and Ollie Watkins (£8.0m), among others.
Eze topped the tree for key passes (seven) and had eight shots on goal. His expected points of 5.72 was more than the two he managed.
Watkins grabbed an assist against Newcastle and Villa have a prime home game against Everton to make amends for their Gameweek 1 5-1 loss.
