Gameweek 4 is over and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are already busy making transfers during the international break &#8211; but who were the biggest under-performers of the week and who scored more points than they should have?
Every season, we see the biggest haulers of the previous gameweek brought into hundreds of thousands of teams.
But the secret to success in FPL is to jump on players who are about to score more points &#8211; not chasing points.
So with this in mind, we&#8217;re taking a look at the expected points for FPL Gameweek 4 and highlighting those who were fortunate to score well &#8211; and who perhaps could have netted a haul themselves.
The international break is also a good time to check in on the overall picture from the season so far.
Finally, we&#8217;ll examine an early list of the most popular transfers in and out. Are the early bandwagons worth jumping on &#8211; and are some players being moved on in disgust too early?

<h2>Biggest FPL over-performers of the week</h2>
Gameweek 4 hat-trick heroes Son Heung-min (£9.1m), Evan Ferguson (£6.0m) and Erling Haaland (£14.1m) top the list of over-performers.
This is due to all three outdoing their expected goals (xG), with Haaland&#8217;s xG the highest at 1.35, Son&#8217;s at 1.09 and Ferguson&#8217;s 0.89.
The Chasing Points series has previously highlighted how Haaland has made a mockery of his xG during his time in the Premier League.
His six goals this season have come from an xG of 4.34, while his record-breaking 36 league goals in the last campaign was above his xG of 30.06.

Son also has a history of outperforming his xG. In his 23 goal haul in 2o21/22, his xG was just 17.3 &#8211; and he bettered it in two of the three seasons beforehand too.
We have less data on Ferguson, given he only emerged on the scene last season. He finished on six goals, against an xG of 5.42.
Brighton have the highest xG (10.65) so far this season, so plenty of opportunities are likely to be created for whoever plays up front for the Seagulls.
The bigger concern with Ferguson is security of starts, with lots of competition in the attacking positions for Roberto De Zerbi&#8217;s side.

Julian Alvarez (£6.7m) is fourth on the list of over-performers, with a goal and an assist in Gameweek 4.
His two assists came against an expected assists (xA) tally of 0.05, suggesting he was fortunate to get either of them.
But one of them was a pass which the clinical Haaland converted, with the other coming from him being fouled for a penalty.

Billy Gilmour (£4.9m) also picked up two assists, helping Brighton to a 3-1 win over Newcastle.
His first was a long-range shot which was spilled by Nick Pope (£5.5m), allowing Ferguson a tap-in. This explains the over-performance of both players in this move.
Gilmour&#8217;s second was a pass into Ferguson, who scored from around 25 yards out in what would be considered a low-xG chance.

<h2>Biggest under-performers of the week</h2>
Luton lost 2-1 to West Ham in their first Premier League home game.
And budget defender Reece Burke (£4.0m) was the biggest under-performer of Gameweek 4.
He missed one big chance &#8211; and the big chance he created was not converted. He had a combined expected goal involvements (xGI) of 0.8.
Fulham&#8217;s Raul Jimenez (£5.4m) had an xGI of 1.1, having created two big chances against City, but came away empty handed.
Owners of Matty Cash (£4.6m) anticipated attacking returns &#8211; but not at the wrong end of the pitch.
The Aston Villa defender scored an own-goal, leading to negative FPL points in Gameweek 4 and third on our under-performers list as a result.

Cash only had an xGI of 0.3 though, so there was little else for owners to cheer.
Slightly further down the list, Nicolas Jackson (£7.2m) makes his second appearance in four weeks as a Chasing Points under-performer.
This time, he failed to score from two big chances, one of which from just a few yards out.

<h2>Biggest under and over-performers &#8211; Gameweek 1-4</h2>
Christian Romero (£4.7m) comfortably leads the way so far this season for over-performance.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender has 27 FPL points, including two goals from an xG of 0.63. His return is nearly double his expected points/
Two assists from an xA of 0.62 has put teammate Destiny Udogie (£4.7m) in second place.
Udogie&#8217;s ranks fourth among defenders for successful passes in the final third, however he is not among the top performers so far for metrics like key passes, successful crosses or xA.
But his positioning high up the pitch is a positive sign for those who own him in FPL, giving him potential to be involved in plenty of Spurs&#8217; attacks going forward.

<h3>Under-performers</h3>
Enzo Fernandez (£5.0m) is the polar opposite of Romero so far this season, under-performing his expected points by more than 14.
The Chelsea midfielder, who has played further forward compared to last season, has an xG of 1.24 and xA of 1.25, with no goals or assists.
Much of his goal threat came from a missed penalty, however there could be more attacking threat to come from the Argentine should he continue in his current role.
Jackson&#8217;s two Chasing Points appearances means he sits second on the list.
And Everton&#8217;s struggles to score means several of their attacking options make the top 10. Neal Maupay (£4.9m) is now classified as a Brentford player, however his appearance here is due to his performances as a Toffee.
Everton have scored twice this season, with their xG 8.45. Their xG is fifth best, while they rank joint-bottom with Luton for actual goals scored.
Toffees fans will hope new forward Beto (£6.0m) can help in this regard. He scored in the Carabao Cup and netted 10 times for Udinese in Serie A last season.

<h2>Biggest bandwagons: FPL transfers in</h2>

Son&#8217;s hat-trick against Burnley has convinced more than 370,000 FPL managers to bring him in ahead of Gameweek 5.
Early transfers during an international break can be risky, given there is a long time between now and the Gameweek 5 deadline.
Injury issues could emerge during this time, so a cautious approach could be the sensible play.
Son played up front in place of Richarlison (£6.8m) in Gameweek 4, exploiting Burnley&#8217;s high line to perfection.
Non-owners may wish to wait to see whether he is likely to retain a central role for a sustained period of time.
Ferguson&#8217;s hat-trick has also convinced 293,000 managers to invest in him, however it wasn&#8217;t long since he was left out of Brighton&#8217;s starting 11.
The teenager will get plenty of minutes for the Seagulls in 2023/24, however regular starts are far from a guarantee and those chasing his points may end up frustrated &#8211; or benching him for his returns.
Udogie, Romero and James Ward-Prowse (£6.1m) are among the biggest over-performers so far this season, so again owners may be disappointed if their returns do not keep pace with their early efforts.

<h2>FPL transfers out</h2>
Jackson has frustrated in front of goal, scoring once despite having seven big chances over the first four gameweeks.
Chelsea face Bournemouth next though, who have the third-highest expected goals conceded (xGC).
Alexander Isak (£7.7m) was a early popular transfer in &#8211; but nearly 200,000 managers have had enough, just as Newcastle emerge from a tough round of fixtures.
The Magpies are sixth on our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixture ticker</a> for favourable games over the next six weeks, with home games against Brentford, Burnley and Crystal Palace to come.
Kieran Trippier (£6.5m) is likely to be a popular transfer in for many managers &#8211; but like Isak, many have lost patience. He&#8217;s been shipped from more than 100,000 teams.
Marcus Rashford (£8.9m) and Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) are waning in popularity, as is Andre Onana (£5.0m). United still rank inside the top half for attacking fixture strength in the coming weeks.
