The Premier League resumes on Boxing Day (December 26) following the conclusion of the World Cup break &#8211; but some teams are back in competitive action before then.
We take a look at what&#8217;s happening next week, as FPL managers prepare their teams for Gameweek 17.

<h2>Who&#8217;s playing before the Premier League restart?</h2>
The Carabao Cup last 16 matches have been shoehorned into the week before the Premier League&#8217;s resumption.
This means some Premier League teams will have an extra game in December, ahead of a busy period where the fixtures come thick and fast.
Wolves, Southampton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Leicester, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are the teams affected.

The next time these teams are in action is FPL Gameweek 17, with the fixtures as follows:

<h2>How will the League Cup games affect FPL?</h2>
With FPL Gameweek 17 not kicking off until next Monday (December 26), there shouldn&#8217;t be too many concerns about players not having adequate rest &#8211; but keep an eye out for any injuries.
Liverpool have the shortest turnaround between games,with five days between their cup game on Wednesday and their league match on Monday.
Bournemouth and Manchester City each have seven days before playing again.
Depending on the strength of teams fielded however, it will be a chance for FPL managers to see how sharp sides are after several weeks without a competitive fixture.  Most teams have taken part in training camps and friendlies while some squad members have been at the World Cup.
For Wolves, it will be the first official game under new manager Julen Lopetegui, a useful insight into how the Spaniard will set up his side.
And it will be Southampton boss Nathan Jones&#8217; second game in charge of the Saints, with Ralph Hasenhuttl&#8217;s successor having taken charge of the 3-1 loss to Liverpool prior to the World Cup.
A number of players are <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-gameweek-17-which-premier-league-players-are-still-at-the-world-cup">still at the World Cup</a> at the time of writing, with the final and third-place playoff taking place over the weekend (December 17 and 18).
Brighton will be without Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) for example, while United will not be able to call on the services of centre-back Lisandro Martinez (£4.5m) &#8211; this is also likely to be the case upon the league restart.
