<p>The FPL community was struck with Wildcard fever ahead of FPL Gameweek 26 &#8211; but how many actually played the chip this week and were they rewarded?</p>
<p>There were plenty of FPL points on offer in Gameweek 26, with 31 goals scored in ten games.</p>
<p>The action was rounded off on Monday night (March 6) with Brentford defeating Fulham 3-2 &#8211; but here&#8217;s a summary of the key FPL talking points.</p>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 26: Wildcard stats</h2>
<p>Those who follow FPL accounts on Twitter may have got the impression everyone was playing their Wildcard this week.</p>
<p>And while it was a popular chip, the reality was Wildcarders were in the minority.</p>

<p>The Gameweek 26 Wildcard was mainly used to bring in Brentford and Brighton players ahead of their double gameweeks.</p>
<p>Brentford have two &#8211; in Gameweek 27 and 29 &#8211; and the Seagulls also play twice next week.</p>
<p><strong>Ivan Toney (£7.7m) </strong>and <strong>Ben Mee (£5.1m) </strong>were the two most popular transfers in.</p>
<p><strong>Kaoru Mitoma (£5.4m)</strong> rewarded those who brought him in, as did other Brighton stars.</p>
<p>But some couldn&#8217;t find room for all their Albion assets in this week&#8217;s starting lineup, leaving some agonising scores on their bench.</p>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 27: Toney on target in Brentford win</h2>
<p>Toney rewarded his owners with a goal from the penalty spot in Brentford&#8217;s 3-2 win over Fulham.</p>
<p>The forward, who avoided a <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-yellow-cards">ninth yellow card</a>, ended the night on eight points, picking up two bonus points.</p>
<p><strong>Ethan Pinnock (£4.4m) </strong>opened the scoring with a deflected shot. The budget defender was one of our top-three Brentford picks in our article last week.</p>

<p><strong>Mathias Jensen (£4.8m)</strong> was also on the scoresheet, earning maximum bonus.</p>
<p>Fulham&#8217;s <strong>Manor Solomon (£4.9m) </strong>scored in his fourth successive Premier League game, heading home to make it 1-1.</p>
<p>The game was over though by the time <strong>Carlos Vinicius (£5.4m) </strong>grabbed a consolation goal deep into injury time at the end of the game.</p>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 26: Brighton hit four ahead of Double Gameweek 27</h2>
<p>The pressure mounted on West Ham manager David Moyes after a visit to the Amex ended in a 4-0 hammering.</p>
<p><strong>Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) </strong>opened the scoring from the spot, after Mitoma was fouled.</p>
<p>The Argentine then flicked on a corner for <strong>Joel Veltman (£4.6m) </strong>to chest home.</p>
<p>Veltman made the Hub&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/best-fpl-wildcard-team-for-gameweek-26">Gameweek 26 Wildcard side</a>, although his starring role came a week too early as he had to settle for a place on the algorithm&#8217;s bench.</p>
<p><strong>Pascal Gross (£5.4m) </strong>then crossed for Mitoma to convert from close range, with substitute <strong>Danny Welbeck (£6.5m) </strong>adding a fourth, assisted by youngster <strong>Facundo Buonanotte (£4.5m)</strong>.</p>
<p>Gross was described by manager Roberto De Zerbi post-match as &#8216;one of the best players I have had in my career&#8217;.</p>
<p><strong>Solly March (£5.1m) </strong>ended up with only a clean-sheet point to his name. Although the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> don&#8217;t suggest he dodged a large points return, the winger was highly involved and based on the eye test, gave his owners plenty of encouragement.</p>
<p>He had two shots on goal, with one on target, and made one key pass.</p>
<p>Goalkeeper <strong>Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) </strong>was brought into 109,000 FPL teams ahead of Gameweek 26.</p>
<p>But the Spaniard was dropped by De Zerbi in favour of <strong>Jason Steele (£3.9m)</strong> &#8211; and De Zerbi&#8217;s comments won&#8217;t have filled Sanchez owners with confidence.</p>
<p>He told the club&#8217;s <a href="https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/3098198/roberto-de-zerbis-monday-round-up">website</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>“I’m sad for Robert [Sanchez] because with him I have one of the best relationships but my job is to coach and you have to be honest and clear.</p>
<p>&#8220;At this moment Jason is closer to my idea in terms of playing with the ball at his feet and build-up and deserves to play.</p>
<p>“But I think Robert can arrive at the same level. They have different characteristics, but Robert is a good guy who will want to improve in this aspect.</p>
<p>“I love the competition in my dressing room. The right competition can help players improve. I have two very good goalkeepers and I will see in the future who will be in the first 11.&#8221;</p></blockquote>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 26: Salah stars as Liverpool put seven past Manchester United</h2>
<p>One of the supposed advantages of a Gameweek 26 Wildcard was to rid FPL sides of Liverpool players ahead of Manchester United&#8217;s visit to Anfield.</p>
<p>In sparkling form of late, United were expected to be tough competition for Liverpool &#8211; but the home side triumphed 7-0.</p>
<p><strong>Mohamed Salah (£12.7m)</strong>, <strong>Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) </strong>and <strong>Darwin Nunez (£8.8m) </strong>all scored twice, with <strong>Roberto Firmino (£8.0m) </strong>also on the scoresheet. Salah added two assists for a 21 point haul.</p>
<p>It was painful viewing for United fans, as well as hundreds of thousands of FPL managers who ditched those who scored a brace.</p>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 26: Arsenal come back to beat Bournemouth as Saka blanks</h2>
<p>It took less than 10 seconds for those with Arsenal defenders to lose their clean sheet, as Bournemouth&#8217;s <strong>Philip Billing (£5.1m) </strong>put the Cherries ahead.</p>
<p><strong>Ben White (£4.7m) </strong>was benched, although the Englishman did get the second half. In a remarkable turnaround for his backers, he scored his first goal for the club to even things out at 2-2.</p>
<p>One of the last kicks of the game saw substitute <strong>Reiss Nelson (£4.7m) </strong>score a dramatic winner. Nelson&#8217;s 21 minute cameo saw also saw him pick up an assist for 11 FPL points.</p>
<p><strong>Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) </strong>was the most-captained player in Gameweek 26 &#8211; but he failed to return.</p>
<p><strong>Erling Haaland (£12.2m)</strong>, the second-most fancied option, had left the door open for Saka captainers. He could only manage an assist in Manchester City&#8217;s 2-0 lunchtime victory over Newcastle.</p>
<p>Saka had four shots on goal, and an expected goals (xG) tally of 0.55, but finished the game with two points.</p>

<h2>FPL Gameweek 26 key stats &#8211; and near misses</h2>
<p>Liverpool and Brighton players unsurprisingly feature heavily in the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> for Gameweek 26. But others also stand out.</p>
<p><strong>Brennan Johnson (£5.7m) </strong>scored twice in Nottingham Forest&#8217;s 2-2 draw against Everton. He now has five goals and two assists since Gameweek 19.</p>
<p>His seven goal involvements put him joint-fourth in the league in that period, level with the likes of Salah and Saka. Only Haaland and <strong>Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) </strong>have scored more.</p>
<p><strong>Martin Odegaard (£7.0m)</strong> blanked in Gameweek 26, however he had more than double the amount of shots than any other player.</p>
<p>Those who own <strong>Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.2m) </strong>and <strong>James Maddison (£8.1m) </strong>were also left wonedering how the duo failed to pick up any points, with the former missing two big chances.</p>
