The Premier League returned on Boxing Day (December 26) after more than a month&#8217;s break &#8211; and there were a number of things we learned from the first day of the FPL restart.
Many continued where they left off, with goals for Harry Kane (£11.6m) and Miguel Almiron (£5.8m), while some players missed out through injury.
We explore the key points below.

<h2>Darwin Nunez frustrates</h2>
The £9.0m Liverpool forward returned just two points for the 17% of FPL managers who backed him in their unlimited transfers team ahead of Gameweek 17.
But that wasn&#8217;t the whole story.
Nunez did a fine job of dodging points. He had the joint-most shots on target of anyone on Boxing Day (four) and the second-most attempts on goal in the box (five). He led the way for big chances (four), double that of his nearest rival.
All this added up to a league leading expected goals figure of 1.8. The next seven on the list for highest xG were all on the scoresheet.
His lack of clinical edge put him bottom of the league for BPS &#8211; the system used to calculate bonus points. The Uruguayan scored -10, keeping him firmly rooted on two points.

<h2>FPL injury updates: Mitrovic plays, Maddison and Wilson out</h2>
Fulham manager Marco Silva plunged the participation of Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) into uncertainty with his pre-match comments.
Silva said the Serbian striker was a doubt for Gameweek 17, with Fulham&#8217;s star man not &#8216;fully fit&#8217; and still feeling the effects of a foot injury sustained before the World Cup.
But Mitrovic played 85 minutes of the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, scoring once and assisting twice in the process.
He led the league for total shots (seven) and shots in the box (seven) and showed Nunez the way to finish, with just the one big chance coming his way.
FPL managers who kept the faith with Mitrovic were rewarded &#8211; but those who backed Callum Wilson (£7.4m) weren&#8217;t so lucky.
The England international missed out on Newcastle&#8217;s matchday squad entirely, with manager Eddie Howe later revealing he had not recovered from a bout of illness he had been suffering from in the build up to Gameweek 17.
Also missing out was Leicester&#8217;s James Maddison (£8.2m).
His manager Brendan Rodgers told Amazon Prime: &#8220;He’s still suffering with his knee so we’re just trying to get to the bottom of it with the medical team, so yeah, he was out this morning and just didn’t feel right so we’ll have to assess that.&#8221;

<h2>Patterson v Bueno: Battle of the budget defenders</h2>
Nathan Patterson (£4.0m) and Hugo Bueno (£3.9m) met each other on the pitch as Everton were defeated 2-1 by Wolves.
The two full-backs were in the thoughts of many FPL managers for their fifth defender spot, with both offering an ultra-budget option.
Both made the starting lineup, with Patterson playing 90 minutes. Bueno was hooked after 59 minutes, with his replacement Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.2m) scoring the Wolves winner.
Bueno was denied by Jordan Pickford (£4.5m), his shot in the box the only thing of attacking note from either of the budget duo. Bueno also made a key pass.
We will need more time to see who comes out on top in this battle, although both starting was a bonus for FPL managers &#8211; albeit Ait-Nouri&#8217;s cameo perhaps being a slight concern for Bueno backers.

<h2>Odegaard, Saka, Nketiah and Martinelli all return FPL points</h2>
Arsenal continued their fine form with a 3-1 victory over West Ham.
The FPL community had plenty of debates over how the absence of Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) would affect Mikel Arteta&#8217;s men.
But in this single example, the answer was very little. His replacement Eddie Nketiah (£6.5m) scored, rewarding the 2.2% of FPL managers who invested in him.
Bukayo Saka (£8.0m), Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.4m) received a lot more attention though, bought by 18.4%, 47.6% and 17% of FPL managers respectively.
Odegaard came out on top, with 11 points, followed by Saka on nine and Martinelli on eight.
The Norwegian had six shots on goal, two of which were in the box. Granit Xhaka (£5.1m), who had two shots, was the only other Gunner to have more than one.
Odegaard&#8217;s shots lacked goal threat though, with an xG of 0.08, however his expected assists tally of 1.0 was much more encouraging. He picked up two assists from five key passes and two big chances created.
Martinelli repaid those who kept the faith in him. He converted from a tight angle to score from his only shot of the game. His xG was 0.19.
