Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has been banned for eight matches after his sending off in the FA Cup against Manchester United on March 19, the FA has confirmed.
The ban was confirmed in a <a href="https://www.thefa.com/news/2023/mar/21/fulham-statement-210323">statement</a> released on Tuesday (April 4), with a two-match touchline ban and fine for Cottagers manager Marco Silva and financial penalty for the club also imposed.

<h2>Why has Mitrovic been banned?</h2>
Mitrovic was sent off by referee Chris Kavanagh in a mad few minutes which saw Willian red carded for handling the ball on the line in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.
Silva saw red in the aftermath, as did Mitrovic for &#8216;violent conduct&#8217; towards Kavanagh, in which he was seen to push the official as he protested the Willian decision.
The incident meant Mitrovic would face an automatic three-match ban, however the FA deemed this punishment &#8216;clearly insufficient&#8217;.
The case was heard by an independent panel, with the standard suspension increased.
In relation to the Serbian striker, the FA statement read:
<blockquote>&#8220;We claimed the standard punishment which would otherwise apply to Aleksandar Mitrovic for the sending-off offence of violent conduct that he committed towards the match referee around the 72nd minute was clearly insufficient.
&#8220;The forward denied this, but it was upheld by the Regulatory Commission, and a three-match ban was imposed. This is in addition to the three-match ban he had already received for the red card offence.
&#8220;The forward separately admitted that his behaviour and language after being sent off was improper, abusive, insulting and threatening, and the Regulatory Commission imposed an additional two-match ban and £75,000 fine.
&#8220;In total, the Regulatory Commission has suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic for eight matches. One of these has already been served, and therefore the forward will be unavailable for Fulham FC’s next seven matches.&#8221;</blockquote>
Lengthy bans for similar offences are not unheard of in the Premier League.
Paolo Di Canio received an 11 game ban in 1998 for pushing referee Paul Alcock and causing him to fall to the ground.
Leandro Bacuna was banned for six matches in 2017 for barging into an assistant referee.

<h2>When will Mitrovic be available for selection in FPL again?</h2>
With one of the eight games of his ban served, Mitrovic will be unavailable until FPL Gameweek 36.
At that point, Fulham will only have three games of the Premier League season remaining.
<h2>Could Mitrovic&#8217;s ban be increased further?</h2>
The length of the suspension was decided by an independent regulatory commission, not the FA itself.
The FA intends to <a href="https://twitter.com/FAspokesperson/status/1643282755596308480?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet">appeal</a> both Silva and Mitrovic&#8217;s sanctions but will first wait for the commission&#8217;s written reasons.
<h2>Who will replace Mitrovic in the Fulham starting 11?</h2>
Carlos Vinicius came in for Mitrovic in FPL Gameweek 29, playing 90 minutes.
He has two goals and an assist in 644 minutes of Premier League football this season.
Terry Ablade, 21,  is the only other available Fulham forward in FPL. He has yet to make a senior appearance for Fulham.
<h2>How will Mitrovic&#8217;s absence affect Fulham and their FPL prospects?</h2>
There&#8217;s no doubt Mitrovic has been a key part of Fulham&#8217;s success this season.
He has scored 11 goals in 21 games and has been involved in 58% of the Cottagers&#8217; goals while he&#8217;s been on the pitch.
Fulham have had to cope with him for periods &#8211; mostly because of an ankle injury that limited his minutes earlier in the campaign. He also served a one-match ban for picking up five yellow cards.
Mitrovic is the club&#8217;s main penalty taker. His suspension is likely to see Andreas Pereira take on spot-kick duties, although with plenty of competition in the midfield spots in FPL teams, the budget pick may not prove as popular as he did in the first part of the fantasy season.
