<h2>Paul's Telegraph Fantasy Football World team reveal: Round 1 review so far</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Overall, I’m happy how my Round 1 has gone so far and I didn’t deviate too far from my planned moves and stuck to my original strategy – rotate block defences, maximise fixture gains and target specific fixtures.</span></p>
<p>Here's a summary of some of the key points from Round 1.</p>
<p><strong>1. Jordan Pickford, Kieran Trippier, Luke Shaw and John Stones</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This didn’t have the desired impact, with England conceding twice.</span></p>
<p><strong>2. Nathan Ake and Daley Blind</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A success. Both started and kept clean sheet.</span></p>
<p><strong>3. Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Argentina were humbled by Saudi Arabia but at least their talisman returned from the penalty spo</span></p>
<p><strong>4. Phil Foden and Harry Kane</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">England’s captain returned two assists in the Three Lions’ rout against Iran, however Manchester City’s young star was benched. </span></p>
<p><strong>5. Kevin De Bruyne</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This didn’t work out at all, however there were no standout midfield choices I was desperate to get.</span></p>
<p><strong>6. England defence to the Netherlands defence</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A major success. Coupling new additions<strong> Andries Noppert, Virgil van Dijk and Denzel Dumfries</strong>, with the already held Ake and Blind generated a massive 37 points for the single clean sheet and saves bonus.</span></p>
<p><strong>7. England attackers to The Netherlands and/or Argentina attackers</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I changed tact here slightly. I held off on both the Dutch attack (no <strong>Memphis Depay</strong> in the starting 11) and Argentina (I felt I had enough attacking coverage with Messi and Di Maria) and instead opted for an additional Polish midfielder in <strong>Piotr Zielinski</strong> to free up budget.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Poland play Saudi Arabia before Argentine play in Round 2. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I also brought in <strong>Marco Asensio</strong> from Spain, who was a one-game punt while transitioning to <strong>Neymar</strong> from <strong>Kylian Mbappe</strong>.</span></p>

<p><strong>8. Messi or Julian Alvarez/Lautaro Martínez to Robert Lewandowski after Argentina played Saudi Arabia</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I moved on Messi and was duly disappointed when the ex-Bayern player missed from the spot. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was a move I’d always have made with the way Poland’s fixtures lie and I get a second bite of the cherry against Saudi Arabia before moving on.</span></p>
<p><strong>9. Neymar and Mbappe in</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The chain of moves was John Stones to Mbappe to Asensio to Neymar. I wanted to avoid holding too many players who play in the later groups and will go back for Mbappe in Round 2. </span></p>
