<p>Welcome to my first article of the 2022/23 season! It&#8217;s fantastic to be back, and you can expect even better content this year, following some reflection in the off-season.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>The Transfer:</h2>
<p><strong>Yves Bissouma</strong> has been purchased by Tottenham Hotspur for £29 million. It&#8217;s a deal which hasn&#8217;t been in the spotlight too much, but it certainly should be. Bissouma is a big piece in the puzzle that Antonio Conte is trying to solve, with the goal of finally bringing some silverware to Spurs.</p>
<p>Yes; &#8220;silverware to Spurs&#8221;. Something which could be described as contradictory in the past, but I certainly don&#8217;t think so anymore. The team Conte is building isn&#8217;t one which will have it&#8217;s sights set on a top four finish and nothing more. It&#8217;s got far too much quality for that, in nearly every department, and will aspire for much greater success.</p>
<p>This article discusses a variety of matters surrounding the impact of the transfer, but I&#8217;m certain many clubs have missed a bargain here.</p>

<h2>Yves Bissouma: The Player</h2>
<p>Brighton finished in 9th place last season, and given how good they were at times, the table does them a slight disservice. Their problems lay at the top end of the field, which Bissouma doesn&#8217;t directly have too much control over, but what he did have direct control of, he did outstandingly.</p>
<p>You simply weren&#8217;t going to face that Brighton side and create a multitude of chances against them. It&#8217;s difficult when they are so well coached, and have an extremely talented defensive midfielder to protect the backline.</p>
<p>What stands out firstly is his positional awareness, and his ranking in the 86th percentile for interceptions highlights this.</p>
<p>His understanding of when to leave his deeper position to turn the ball over isn&#8217;t something which is easily coached. This reading of the game will allow Spurs far more opportunities to transition much faster, and the idea of potentially having <strong>Rodrigo Bentancur</strong> beside him is a tantalising prospect.</p>
<p>His limitations include the creative aspect of his game, attacking output (minimal) and direct goal involvements.</p>
<p>As a pivot, his short range distribution (he&#8217;s poor at longer ranges) is highly efficient, he does everything in a precise manner (hence why he is ranked in the 91st percentile for pass completion) and also has the ability to progress the ball very well (90th percentile) when he&#8217;s being pressed.</p>
<p>This is the aspect of his game which I feel will work beautifully under Conte. As seen in previous times at Chelsea, he likes having a double pivot of two &#8220;defensive&#8221; midfielders (<strong>N&#8217;golo Kante</strong> and <strong>Nemanja Matic</strong>). Their output requirements were vast, and given Bissouma&#8217;s experience of playing in a system like this, alongside his abilities to influence transitions by being almost press resistant; you can see him making Spurs a very well functioning machine.</p>

<h2>Yves Bissouma: Improving Conte&#8217;s system</h2>
<p>This is in someway a continuation of the above, but I truly feel he&#8217;s the player to take Spurs to the next level.</p>
<p>His positional awareness will give further confidence for the wing-backs to push up, who play a pivotal role in regards to chance creation in this system, especially given Bissouma&#8217;s lack thereof.  The likes of <strong>Matt Doherty</strong> who entered a purple patch last season (55 points in 6 games) and <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/ivan-perisic-fpl-prospects/"><strong>Ivan Perisic</strong></a> who was used in an even more advanced role by Inzaghi last season, will thrive as a result.</p>
<p>Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane, and Dejan Kulusevski will all benefit from Bissouma&#8217;s ball retention and press resistance, as it means they will get the ball at their feet far earlier in combinations, and far more.</p>
<p>The defence will have more outlets given his press resistance, and of course an increased sense of security given his ability. Hugo Lloris will therefore face less shots, especially from range where his performance in that category was below last season at times.</p>
<p>Ultimately, directly or indirectly, he improves Spurs throughout EVERY aspect of the pitch.</p>

<h2><strong>Yves Bissouma: Making Spurs&#8217; FPL assets more appealing</strong></h2>
<p>As discussed previously, he directly or indirectly improves every player in the system. I won&#8217;t talk about the front three right now, there will be time for that later when prices are revealed, as price could be the key differentiating factor between Kane, Son, and Kulusevski.</p>
<p>However, I&#8217;m quite confident the defensive assets will be priced cheaply. <strong>Eric Dier</strong> and <strong>Christian Romero</strong> should be around £4.5m-£5m, and the wing-backs £5.5m-£6m.</p>
<p>The addition of Bissouma will lead to more clean sheets undoubtedly, and more freedom for the wing-backs going forward. We&#8217;ve seen Doherty&#8217;s ceiling before, we know of Perisic&#8217;s quality. but Eric Dier is the player who I really like the look of.</p>
<p>Dier has so many things going for him. He received 680 bonus points on the BPS metric, placing him 10th amongst defenders. Six of the nine players above him were from Liverpool or Manchester City. The England man has an instantly higher ceiling playing behind Bissouma.</p>
<p>If he were to play in the middle of the back three again, his assist potential goes up marginally (long diagonals and progressive carries).</p>
<p>He&#8217;s an aerial threat in the opposition box and has some set pieces in the form of free-kicks (albeit I suspect given Son&#8217;s performance for South Korea, he may get a greater majority of them now).</p>
<p>Ultimately bonus points and price are Dier&#8217;s biggest selling points, but the other factors certainly help.</p>

<h2>Yves Bissouma: Taking Spurs above Chelsea</h2>
<p>I&#8217;d argue due to some historical bias managers seems to be prioritising Chelsea assets over Spurs assets in their current thinking. With the way things stand given the numerous departures at Chelsea, the lack of replacements, and no real talisman in the attack (although <strong>Ben Chilwell</strong> could become a very good option at the back) I certainly see Spurs as the better side.</p>
<p>In terms of their first five fixtures:</p>
<p>Chelsea &#8211; EVE (A), TOT (H), LEE (A), LEI (H), SOU (A)</p>
<p>Spurs &#8211; SOU (H), CHE (A), WOL (H). NFO (A), WHU (A)</p>
<p>I&#8217;d say they are pretty equal in terms of difficultly.</p>
<p>Therefore, Spurs are ahead in the pecking order for me, at least until Gameweek 3, but Chelsea would need to show serious signs of promise prior.</p>
