<h2>Friday Deadline is Closing in</h2>
<p>As the Gameweek 1 deadline is closing in, it is time for the final adjustments and decisions to be made.</p>
<p>The time until deadline is probably the most stressful time of the year to <strong>Fantasy Premier League (FPL)</strong> managers and it’s easy to start tinkering too much at this stage.</p>
<p>It can be so stressful that you may end up being influenced by people you never would have listened to if you had not been in a panic-light state of mind, or one single tweet, something you heard from an article or podcast or just an idea that popped into your mind.</p>
<p>If you don’t take a step back and evaluate your squad before the deadline passes on Friday, you may end up tossing well-founded plans landing a squad you by Sunday evening will have no idea how you got to.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 1 &#8211; Be Pragmatic</h2>
<p>By being pragmatic, I mean that we should be flexible and deal with the decisions we make in a sensible way. We should handle decisions and outcomes based on facts rather than imagining what may or may not happen.</p>
<p>If you want a safe start to the season that will almost guarantee you a rank among the top million after the first few gameweeks and build from there, you should start off with low risk and select a squad based on guaranteed starters and talismans.</p>
<p>If you on the other hand want try getting a head start then feel free to play risky and punt on high risk – high reward players, but be prepared to accept it if it doesn’t work out.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 2 &#8211; Do Not Take Grief in Advance</h2>
<p>Why worry about an outcome that hasn’t occurred yet?</p>
<p>Stay focused on what you know, not what you fear.</p>
<p>It may as well go your way in the end, may it not?</p>
<p>Would you be less emotionally affected by a negative outcome by taking the grief in advance?</p>

<h2>Tip Number 3 &#8211; Practice Making Decisions While in Doubt</h2>
<p>This is something you have to do almost every gameweek through the season, so you better start practicing and getting good at it.</p>
<p>Do your research and make the best decisions you can with the information available at that time, and accept the decisions you make.</p>
<p>When can you ever be 100% sure that the decision you are going to make is the right one and that there is absolutely no chance of another decision being better?</p>
<p>Even how harsh it may sound, there’s only one thing that is 100% certain in life, and that is that we are all going to die someday.</p>
<p>Everything else we have to deal with in doubt.</p>
<p>If you accept that, you have come a long way in taking care of your mental health, and this will save you a lot of worries.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 4 &#8211; Don&#8217;t Make the Exception the Main Rule</h2>
<p>If <strong>Ngolo Kante (£5.0m) </strong>manage to score and assist in gameweek one, does this make him a viable option? No, it doesn’t. He is still a defensive midfielder with limited upside.</p>
<p>If you like to take a punt on captaincy then go ahead.</p>
<p>But remember that even if you experience a couple of successful captaincy punts in gameweeks where popular captains blank, don’t expect it to work out every week.</p>
<p>Keep the possibility of you being lucky open and accept it when it doesn&#8217;t work out.</p>
<p>The highly captained players are more often than not popular for a reason, and to succeed with a risky choice of captain you need both your shout to haul and the highly captained options to blank, which over time is hardly sustainable.</p>
<p>Personally, I prefer a low risk start to the season, and you probably won&#8217;t see any promoted or players unproven to the Premiership in my squad. Not even <strong>Ivan Toney (£6.5m)</strong>.</p>
<p>If he hets on to a good start, I&#8217;ll jump on, but I prefer to see how players perform in the Premiership before boarding the bandwagon.</p>
<p>From time to time we see players like <strong>Teemu Pukki (£6.0m)</strong> and <strong>Michu</strong> who performed great right from the starting block, but more often than not players needs time to adjust to the Premier League.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m still happy I passed on the pre-season <strong>Timo Werner (£9.0m)</strong> hype last year.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 5 &#8211; Pay Attention to Yourself</h2>
<p>This is actually easy to forget.</p>
<p>Don’t play a certain way because the FPL Twitter community template is different from your squad, and avoid playing the wildcard just because you see a lot of other managers playing it.</p>
<p>Lots of FPL managers did this last year and ripped up well-founded teams without major issues to prepare for the double gameweeks, only to look back at their original team outperforming the wildcard team.</p>
<p>Remember that it’s your team, and that you have to make the decisions that feel right to you.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 6 &#8211; Avoid Unhealthy Addictions</h2>
<p>Think through whether your FPL habits are positive or negative to you.</p>
<p>If you feel that you don’t have time to listen to more than a couple of podcast every week, do you really need to listen through the whole list you currently have queued in your podcast library?</p>
<p>Or could you choose the ones you get the most out of listening to and feel you get the best advice from instead?</p>
<p>Does it make you feel good, bad, stressed or relaxed when checking <em><strong><a href="https://www.livefpl.net/">Livefpl.net</a></strong></em> in the middle of a gameweek?</p>
<p>If it makes you thrilled, then keep on checking, but if you end up with negative emotions whenever seeing one of your players lose those bonus points he had when it remained 20 minutes of the game, then it might be a better idea to wait until the result is locked before checking?</p>

<h2>Tip Number 7 &#8211; Practice Distinguishing Between Wishes and Demands</h2>
<p>Regardless of how strange it may sound, it’s normal to sometimes feel that we have the right to make correct decisions, or that the decision-making process was so good that we demand a good outcome.</p>
<p>However, if you experience such thoughts, it’s time to get down to earth.</p>
<p>You cannot require such things. You can wish for successful outcomes, like your captain or transferred in players to haul, but it can’t be demanded.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 8 &#8211; Be Flexible</h2>
<p>Make long-term plans, but don’t carve them in stone.</p>
<p>A lot can change quickly in FPL and being flexible increase your chances for success.</p>
<p>Adapt to teams and players in or out of form.</p>
<p>Don’t cement any players in your team, even <strong>Mohamed Salah</strong> <strong>(£12.5m)</strong> can be transferred out if other options look better.</p>
<p>Save the wildcard if your team don’t have issues, and don’t be afraid to play it if a lot of issues emerge at the same time or you see an opportunity to take advantage of major fixture swings.</p>

<h2>Tip Number 9 &#8211; Evaluate Your Squad Before the Gameweek One Deadline</h2>
<p>This tip is inspired by <a href="https://twitter.com/FPLGeneral">@FPLGeneral</a> and is something I believe we all need to do before the gameweek one deadline.</p>
<p>Go through your squad and make up your mind regarding if the player in every of the 15 positions are players you are comfortable owning.</p>
<p>Is this player in your squad because you want to have him there, did someone influence you to choose him despite feeling uncomfortable with it, or did you chose him out of high ownership percentage and fear of missing out (FOMO)?</p>
<p>No one yet knows who is going to haul or not, and for your own well-being, you should choose players that you have researched to the extent that you end up happy if they haul and can accept if they blank.</p>
<p>If this is the case then you know that you have made the best decision possible with the knowledge available.</p>
<p>If you feel that you will be relieved if he hauls and angry if he blanks, then choose another player.</p>
