<h2 style="text-align: left;">Who are the Best FPL Defenders For Gameweek 12?</h2>

<h3>Reece James (£5.9m) – Chelsea</h3>
Fixture: Leicester City (a)
Despite only starting five games, Reece James is the third highest scoring defender in the game. He has already grabbed four goals and three assists with 8 Shots in the Box, 5 Shots on Target and an xG of 1.57. He has also created 15 Chances with an xA of 2.02.
The right-back looks on a different level this season and is providing bags of attacking threat coupled with playing in a very strong defence.
Chelsea play Leicester City (a) in Gameweek 12. The Blues are the second favourites to keep a clean sheet (42%) this week according to the bookmakers.
Looking at their defensive stats it’s no surprise. They have only conceded 4 goals (1st), 70 Shots in the Box (2nd) and an xGC of 12.7 (2nd). They have also kept seven clean sheets (1st).
The Foxes haven't had any problems scoring goals this season with 16 (6th) so far. But I do feel they will have a very tough task in breaking Chelsea down. Also, James’ attacking stats have been phenomenal and he looks like returning every game.
He seems to have nailed down his spot as the first-choice right-back for Thomas Tuchel with his performances. This isn’t to say he will start every game, however. I do feel he will start the majority and his attacking threat makes the odd benching worth investing, in my opinion.
Furthermore, our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> ranks him at 52% to return anytime in Gameweek 12.

<h3>Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) – Liverpool</h3>
Fixture: Arsenal (H)
The Liverpool right-back registered yet more attacking returns last gameweek with a goal, assist and three bonus points (12 points total). This takes his attacking returns tally to one goal and four assists.
He has created 30 Chances (2nd), 6 Big Chances (2nd) with an xA of 3.59 (4th). He sits behind Bruno Fernandes for chances created and behind only Mohamed Salah, Michail Antonio and Fernandes for xA. With him being on<a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/?post_type=post&amp;p=11173"> free-kicks and corners</a> also he is simply a must-have asset.

Liverpool come up against Arsenal at home in Gameweek 12. The Gunners have scored 13 goals (15th), with an xG of 15.1 (13th). Their attacking stats have been mediocre and with Liverpool’s defence and them being at home, they will do well to score.
The Reds have conceded 11 goals (3rd), 37 Shots on Target (2nd), 81 Shots in the Box (6th) and an xGC of 12.7 (2nd). They are also the fourth favourites to keep a clean sheet (38%) for Gameweek 12 according to the bookmakers.
With their strong defence, and Alexander-Arnolds’s immense attacking threat, he is likely to once again be one of the top defensive assets this gameweek.

<h3>Joao Cancelo (£6.4m) – Manchester City</h3>
Fixture: Everton (H)
Joao Cancelo is the top scoring defender (67 points) in the game. He has started every single game in the league thus far and has notched four assists also. He has 6 Shots in the Box, 8 Shots on Target with an xG of 2.12 (1st among defenders). He has also created 10 chances with an xA of 1.67.
The Portuguese also has the most final third passes (361) from all players which shows just how much time he spends in the opposition’s half. He clearly possesses plenty of attacking threat and he plays for the best defensive team in the league.
Manchester City play Everton (H) in Gameweek 12 and this looks another prime opportunity for a City clean sheet. Pep Guardiola’s men have only conceded 6 goals (2nd), 48 Shots in the Box (1st), 20 Shots on Target (1st), and an xGC of 7.6 (1st).
Just for some perspective, Liverpool and Chelsea have the joint second-best xGC in the league at 12.7. The Citizens have by far the best defensive underlying numbers.
Man City are the favourites to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 12 (62%) according to the bookmakers and are also favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%). This of course bodes well for Cancelo’s chances of returns at both ends of the pitch.

<h3>Sergio Reguilón (£5.1m) – Spurs</h3>
Fixture: Leeds United (H)
Spurs have kept four clean sheets this season despite being really poor at the back. They have conceded 16 goals (7th) with an xGC of 16 (10th). However with new manager Antonio Conte at the helm, their defence will surely improve. It seems from his first few games in charge that Sergio Reguilón will be playing as an attacking wingback too.
Spurs play Leeds United in Gameweek 12 which will be Conte’s first home league game in charge. The Whites haven't had the best of seasons so far. They have scored 11 goals (17th) with an xG of 14.1 (14th) and haven't hit the heights of last season, so far anyway.
Reguilón looks to be the best defensive asset Spurs have FPL wise in this new system. We know from Conte’s time at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Italy that he likes to place considerable attacking emphasis on his wing-backs.
He did this to great effect more recently at Inter Milan with Achraf Hakimi and Ivan Perisic. At his last stint at Chelsea, he used Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses to great effect. The Spaniard notched 13 goals and 7 assists under Conte in his two seasons with the Blues.
His formation against Everton shows that he has the same intentions with Reguilón and Emerson.
Also, Reguilón picked up six assists last season in only 26 starts and has the best creativity stats from their defenders.

<h3>Tino Livramento (£4.5m) – Southampton</h3>
Fixture: Norwich (a)
Southampton have kept 5 clean sheets (3rd) conceding only 12 goals (4th) in the process. They have conceded 84 Shots in the Box (8th), 43 Shots on Target (5th) and an xGC of 14.8 (8th). They are comfortably in the top 10 best defences in the league.
The Saints travel to Carrow Road in Gameweek 12 to take on bottom of the table Norwich. The Canaries look destined for the drop again this year. They have only scored 5 goals (20th) with 29 Shots on Target (20th), 51 Shots in the Box (20th) and an xG of 10 (20th). They have been the worst team in the league both in the final third and defensively.
Tino Livramento has been one of the picks of the season so far. With a starting price of only £4.0m he has started every game for Ralph Hassenhutl and has been their best defender from an FPL perspective.
He has a goal and assist to his name already with 4 Shots in the Box and an xG of 0.72 and has also created 10 Chances with an xA of 0.91. He has the best attacking stats from the Saints defenders.
Southampton are the fifth favourites to keep a clean sheet (36%) in Gameweek 12 and with how poor Norwich have been both offensively and defensively, Livramento will again have chances of returns at both ends of the pitch.
