<h2 style="text-align: left;">Who are the Best FPL Defenders For Gameweek 2?</h2>
<h3>Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) – <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-liverpool-best-player-picks/">Liverpool</a></h3>
Fixture: <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/burnley-fantasy-football-tips-team-preview/">Burnley</a> (H)
Liverpool kept a clean sheet in their opening fixture against Norwich and expectedly so. Although no attacking returns for Alexander-Arnold, they are surely just a matter of time. It would have been reassuring for owners to have seen Virgil Van Dijk (£6.5m) fit and starting also.
Alexander-Arnold still managed eight crosses (4th overall) and four successful (2nd) and created 3 Chances (3rd amongst defenders). 
The Reds come up against Burnley (H) in Gameweek 2 and this looks like another very favourable fixture for the right-back. He is more than capable of getting both defensive and attacking returns in this one.
The Clarets were one of the worst attacking teams in the league last season, registering 130 Shots on Target (18th), 234 Shots in the Box (17th), and 56 Big Chances (17th). Their xG was also only 42.5 (17th). Considering they haven’t signed any attacking players yet I don’t see their attacking output improving.
Jurgen Klopp's men also have the best chance of a clean sheet (62%) according to the bookmakers and our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> also has Alexander-Arnold top for expected points amongst defenders (6.1) and second for anytime returns (71%).

Luke Shaw had a fairly subdued performance against <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/leeds-united-fantasy-football-tips-team-preview/">Leeds United</a>. He created 2 Chances and had 1 Shot in the Box. Defensively, Manchester United put in a decent performance, conceding only 3 Shots in the Box (1st) and 3 Shots on Target (3rd).
Leeds were always going to get chances to score due to their attacking nature. It's not surprising they grabbed a goal despite a heavy defeat.
In Gameweek 2 however the Red Devils face much easier competition - especially from an attacking perspective. Southampton don’t have the firepower of Leeds. After losing their star striker, Danny Ings (£8.0m), it's only going to be harder for them to score.
Also, Man United had a good defensive record last season. They kept 13 clean sheets (4th) while only conceding 44 goals (5th).
Man United are at 42% (4th) to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 2 according to the bookmakers. As always. Shaw will have a chance of points at both ends of the pitch.
He created 72 Chances last season with 7 Big Chances and also put in 189 crosses (5th) with 57 of them being successful (4th). Our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> has him at 50% for anytime returns also.

Joao Cancelo must surely be considered one of Gameweek 2's best FPL defenders. Last season he provided plenty of attacking threat, scoring two goals and accumulating four assists with 35 Shots, 11 Shots in Target and 15 Shots in the Box. He also created 45 Chances in only 27 starts.
Although Manchester City lost in their opening fixture, they have the perfect game in Gameweek 2 to get back to winning ways. They come up against Norwich, who will find it very hard to penetrate the City defence.
City kept kept 19 clean sheets (1st) and only conceded 32 goals (1st) last season. Even in their Gameweek 1 loss to Spurs they only conceded 5 Shots in the Box (3rd), 2 Shots on Target (2nd), 1 Big Chance (2nd) with an xGC (expected goals conceded) of 0.8 (2nd).
Their fixture against the Canaries should be a lot more straightforward and Cancelo will have a great chance of both defensive and attacking returns. Against Spurs he had 3 Shots (2nd amongst defenders), and created 3 Chances with 1 Big Chance (1st).
Furthermore, the Citizens are second favourites to keep a clean sheet (60%) this week and our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">Fixture Ticker</a> actually ranks them top for defence and also overall.
Cancelo is expected to score 5.4 points (3rd amongst defenders) according to our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> and is at an impressive 74% (1st) for anytime returns.

Brighton have another good fixture for a clean sheet chance in Gameweek 2. They play Watford and are the third favourites to keep a clean sheet according to the bookmakers (48%).
Lewis Dunk has plenty of attacking threat. Last season he scored five goals (1st amongst defenders), with an xG of 4.15 (1st). He also managed 32 Shots, 15 Shots on Target (1st), 26 Shots in the Box (2nd) and 5 Big Chances (2nd).
Despite finishing 16th, Brighton’s defensive stats were very strong and actually amongst the best in the league. The Seagulls kept 12 clean sheets (5th), conceded 46 goals (7th), 127 Shots on Target (3rd), 222 Shots in the Box (3rd) and 51 Big Chances (3rd).
Although they didn’t keep a clean sheet against Burnley in Gameweek 1, I think they have a much better chance this week with them being at home to Watford. Our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">Fixture Ticker</a> also ranks the Seagulls high for defence and Dunk is the highest <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">predicted defender for points (4.6)</a> outside of Manchester City and Liverpool.
He's also at <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">53% for anytime returns.</a>

Chelsea kept 18 clean sheets (2nd) last season and only conceded 36 goals (2nd).  Since Thomas Tuchel took the reigns at Chelsea, they've become a very strong team both from an attacking and defensive perspective.
In only 27 starts, Chilwell registered three goals and six assists with 27 Shots, 10 Shots on Target, 22 Shots in the Box and four Big Chances while creating 30 Chances and two Big Chances.
The Blues were the second best team in the league defensively last season and had the second least Big Chances conceded (43) and Shots in the Box (195).
In Gameweek 1 they only conceded 4 Shots (1st), 4 Shots in the Box (2nd), 1 Shot on Target (20th) and 0 Big Chances (1st). Their xGC was also only 0.2 (1st).
They look as resolute as ever. Although they face Arsenal in Gameweek 2 they are still the fourth favourites to keep a clean sheet at 42%.
With such a strong defence and Chilwell’s attacking threat, he is a fine option and he should get the nod to start over Alonso (£5.5m) this week given that he was on the bench against <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/crystal-palace-fantasy-football-tips-team-preview/">Crystal Palace</a>.
