<h2 style="text-align: left;">Who are the Best FPL Defenders For Gameweek 9?</h2>
<h3>Joao Cancelo (£6.3m) – Manchester City</h3>
Fixture: Brighton (a)
Manchester City have six clean sheets in eight league games so far. The Portuguese international also has two assists to his name.
He has created 9 Chances with an xA of 1.00 and has the most final third passes (229) from all players.
This shows how advanced he plays and his goal against Club Brugge midweek is testament to his attacking abilities.
Manchester City travel to Brighton in Gameweek 9. This looks like another great opportunity for a City clean sheet.
They have been the best defence in the league so far and have only conceded three goals (1st). City have registered 32 Shots in the Box (1st), 11 Shots on Target (1st) and an xGC of 4.8 (1st).
All of these stats are almost double that of second-placed Brentford who have an xGC of 8.1.
Furthermore, Brighton have not been good going forward and have largely struggled for goals.
The Seagulls have only scored 8 goals (16th) with an xG of 9.3 (14th).
Pep Guardiola’s team are second favourites to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 9 (52%) according to the bookmakers. They are also second favourites to score 2.5+ goals (43%).
This is another fixture in which Cancelo has ample opportunity of returns at both ends of the pitch.
Our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> agrees as it ranks the City defender at 62% for anytime returns.

<h3>Kieran Tierney (£4.9m) – Arsenal</h3>
Fixture: Aston Villa (H)
The Arsenal left-back’s career in London has been marred with injuries since his arrival. Yet he he has started every league game so far for the Gunners.
He has 4 Shots in the Box, with an xG of 0.26. The Scotsman has also created 10 Chances with an xA of 0.48.
Tierney has also managed 108 passes in the final third which makes him the most attacking Arsenal defender by far.
The North London club play Aston Villa (H) in Gameweek 9.
Arsenal have managed to keep three clean sheets this season. Since Gameweek 4, the Gunners have recorded the best xGC (3.7) in the league.
They played Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City in the first three. Despite these three losses, they have picked up since then.
Mikel Arteta's men are also fourth favourites to keep a clean sheet this week according to the bookmakers (38%).
Arsenal were in the top four for defensive stats last season. I feel they will keep enough clean sheets to justify the inclusion of their defenders.
They did concede two against Crystal Palace and looked shaky last week. However, I think they will be in the top five for clean sheets over the course of the season.

<h3>Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) – Chelsea</h3>
Fixture: Norwich (H)
Ben Chilwell’s first starts of the season came in Gameweeks 7 and 8 in which he managed a goal in both.
He has surely claimed the first choice left-back spot now ahead of Marcos Alonso (£5.9m).
The ex-Leicester man may still be rotated during fixture pile-ups but should most definitely start the majority.
In the last two, he has 5 Shots in the Box (1st among defenders), with an xG of 0.97 (1st). He also has an xA of 0.31.
Chelsea come up against Norwich at home in Gameweek 9 and this should be a banker clean sheet for the Blues.
The Canaries have been the worst attacking side in the league by a distance. Norwich have only managed to score two goals (20th).
Daniel Farke's team have also only registered 41 Shots in the Box (20th), 20 Shots on Target (20th) with an xG of 7.4 (20th).
With Chilwell’s attacking ability, this is another fixture in which he can easily pick up attacking and defensive returns simultaneously.
Norwich are also one of the worst defensive sides in the league with an xGC of 15.0 (19th).
Chelsea are the clear favourites to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 9 (67%). They are also the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (53%).

<h3>Lucas Digne (£5.3m) – Everton</h3>
Fixture: Watford (H)
Everton also have a favourable fixture in Gameweek 9 as they face Watford at Goodison Park.
The Toffees are third favourites to keep clean sheet this week at 44%.
Despite only keeping two clean sheets so far, they are actually in the top five for defensive stats.
The Evertonians have only conceded 56 Shots in the Box (5th), 31 Shots on Target (5th) and an xGC of 9.6 (5th).
Watford haven’t been the best attacking side this season and have only managed to score 7 goals (17th).
They have 50 Shots in the Box (18th), 27 Shots on Target (18th) and an xG of 7.7 (19th).
Lucas Digne’s owners will have been left very frustrated with the lack of attacking returns but he has been getting forward and should pick up assists in the near future.
He has created 14 Chances with an xA of 0.96 and has 95 passes in the final third. This puts him first for both metrics amongst Everton defenders.
The French fullback is also on <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/?post_type=post&amp;p=11173">corners and some free-kicks</a> which increase his chances of assists even further and he is the most attacking defender in that backline.
Digne is also now at a much more attractive price of £5.3m after suffering two price drops.
He is ranked third for predicted points (5.1) amongst defenders and also has a 59% chance of attacking returns according to our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a>.

<h3>Tino Livramento (£4.3m) – Southampton</h3>
Fixture: Burnley (H)
Tino Livramento has been a fantastic option for his FPL owners. At a starting price of only £4.0m, he has started every game so far and picked up three clean sheets in the process.
He has also been the most attacking of the Southampton defenders. The right-back has created 7 Chances with an xG of 0.68 and managed the most final third passes (82) amongst Saints backline also.
Southampton come up against Burnley (H) in Gameweek 9. The Clarets have struggled in attack this season, scoring only five goals (19th) with 62 Shots in the Box (12th), 27 Shots on Target (18th) and an xG of only 9.1 (15th).
Their main source of goals, and talisman, Chris Wood (£6.8m) hasn’t been firing. The New Zealand striker has only managed a solitary goal so far.
Meanwhile, the Saints are the fourth favourites to keep a clean sheet for Gameweek 9 at 38%.
Although Ralph Hassenhutl’s men haven’t been the best defensive side with an xGC of 12.1 (14th), their clean sheets have come against West Ham, Manchester City and Leeds United.
All of these opponents are good attacking sides, so I am confident they can keep Burnley out this week.
