<h2 style="text-align: left;">The Best FPL Defenders for Double Gameweek 36</h2>
<h3><strong><br />
Joao Cancelo (£7.2m) – Manchester City</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Newcastle United (H) and Wolves (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Joao Cancelo</strong> has one goal and nine assists with an xG of 5.06 (1<sup>st</sup> amongst defenders) and he has also created 42 Chances with an xA of 5.38 (3<sup>rd</sup> amongst defenders).</p>
<p><strong>Manchester City</strong> have a very nice double in Gameweek 36, especially from a defensive viewpoint. They come up against Newcastle United (H) and Wolves (a) who have been one of the poorest attacking sides in the league.</p>
<p>The Toon have scored 40 goals (13<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 39.2 (16<sup>th</sup>) and Wolves have netted 33 goals (17<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 39.2 (16<sup>th</sup>) also.</p>
<p>The chances of a clean sheet in both games are going to be high, especially with City’s defence. They have only conceded 21 goals (1<sup>st</sup>) with an xGC og 25.5 (1<sup>st</sup>).</p>
<p>The bookmakers also have them at 58% and 54% to keep a clean sheet in their respective fixtures which make them strong favourites. This also means they have an 81% (1<sup>st</sup>) chance of keeping at least one clean sheet. With such a high probability, at least one City defender should be in your team this week.</p>
<p>Also with Cancelo we know he has plenty of attacking threat too, so this double makes him a viable captaincy option in my opinion. City score a lot of goals and the Portuguese is always in the final third. He has actually been quite unfortunate not to have scored more goals.</p>
<p>Our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Points Prediction Tool</a> actually has him as the highest predicted player overall (11.4 points) for Double Gameweek 36.</p>

<h3><strong>Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m) – Manchester City</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Newcastle United (H) and Wolves (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Aymeric Laporte</strong> has also been another great option this season. He has started the majority of games (29) and it also quite attacking too. He has three goals and two assists with an xG of 2.89 and an xA of 0.91. He is also at a very decent price of £6.0m.</p>
<p>He is a great option to double up with Cancelo, not only for this week but for the remainder of the season. Both defenders have chances of returns at both ends of the pitch and play for the best defence in the league.</p>
<p>Also, I think that City’s clean sheet prospects are so good for Double Gameweek 36 that a double up on their defence is an easy decision. If you are on a <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/what-is-the-free-hit-chip-in-fpl-and-how-can-we-use-it/">Free Hit</a> I would definitely be getting two of their defenders.</p>
<p>They are more assured of starting than the attackers and probably offer a safer chance of returns.</p>
<p>With John Stones injured at the moment, Laporte will surely start both these games along with Ruben Dias.</p>

<h3><strong>Trent Alexander Arnold (£8.4m) – Liverpool</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Spurs (H) and Aston Villa (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Trent Alexander-Arnold</strong> was unexpectedly benched last Gameweek against <strong>Newcastle</strong> <strong>United</strong>. However, the good news is that he should well start the remaining league games now that he has got his rest out of the way. He has two goals and 12 assists with an xG of 2.63 and an xA of 10.46 (3<sup>rd</sup> overall).</p>
<p>Liverpool don’t have the best double in Gameweek 36 on paper. They come up against Spurs (H) in the first fixture who have scored 59 goals (4<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 58.9 (4<sup>th</sup>).</p>
<p>Their second fixture is an away game to Aston Villa who have scored 44 goals (10<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 41.9 (15<sup>th</sup>).</p>
<p>Both fixtures are a potential banana skin but if we look at <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/">Liverpool’s defensive stats</a> over the season then this should fill owners with a bit of confidence.</p>
<p>The Reds have now kept 21 clean sheets (1<sup>st</sup>), conceding only 22 goals (2<sup>nd</sup>) with an xGC of 32.2 (2<sup>nd</sup>). They have been fantastic defensively.</p>
<p>The bookmakers also have them at 42% and 43% to keep a clean sheet in Double Gameweek 36 which means they have a 67% to keep at least one clean sheet.</p>
<p>So their defence is certainly still worth going for this week and with Alexander-Arnold, we know that he is just as likely to get attacking returns also.</p>

<h3><strong>Gabriel (£5.4m) – Arsenal</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Leeds United (H) and Spurs (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Gabriel</strong> has had a fantastic season. He has now scored four goals with an xG of 2.97 and has also created 11 Chances with an xA of 1.66. He actually has the highest xG and xA amongst the Arsenal defence.</p>
<p>The Gunners play Leeds United (H) and Spurs (a) in Double Gameweek 36. Mikel Arteta’s men have conceded 41 goals (6<sup>th</sup>) with an xGC of 43.3 (6<sup>th</sup>) and have kept 13 clean sheets (4<sup>th</sup>). They are a good defensive side.</p>
<p>The game against Leeds is where they are most likely to keep a clean sheet. The Whites haven't been at the races this season in defence or attack and I feel this is a game where Gabriel will have chances at both ends of the pitch.</p>
<p>Their fixture against Spurs is likely to have goals in it, especially with Arsenal being away from home but I still feel the Brazilian is a decent option.</p>
<p>Arsenal are at 42% and 24% to keep a clean sheet in Double Gameweek 36 which puts them at 56% to keep at least one clean sheet.</p>
<p>Gabriel is the best defensive option for them in my opinion due to his attacking threat and nailed-ness. He has started every league game since Gameweek 4.</p>

<h3><strong>Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) – Chelsea</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Wolves (H) and Leeds United (a)</strong></p>
<p>Since his return in the <strong>Chelsea</strong> starting 11 (Gameweek 32) <strong>Marcos</strong> <strong>Alonso</strong> has two goals and one assist. Over the season he has accumulated an xG of 3.19 (6<sup>th</sup> amongst defenders) and an xA of 5.09 (4<sup>th</sup>) amongst defenders. Considering he has only started 22 games these stats are fantastic.</p>
<p>Chelsea have a very plum pair of fixtures in Double Gameweek 36. They play Wolves and Leeds United who have both not been the best going forward.</p>
<p>Bruno Lage’s men have only scored 33 goals (17<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 39.2 (16<sup>th</sup>) and the Whites have scored 38 goals (14<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 46.2 (10<sup>th</sup>). We can see both have struggled in the final third and the Blues have one of the best defences in the league.</p>
<p>They have only conceded 29 goals (3<sup>rd</sup>) with an xGC of 36.4 (3<sup>rd</sup>). Not only that that but they are third for xG and xA also which of course benefits Alonso considering how attacking he is.</p>
<p>Thomas Tuchel’s side have a 55% and 41% to keep a clean sheet this week which means a 74% (2<sup>nd</sup>) chance to keep at least one clean sheet.</p>
<p>The Spaniard is a fantastic FPL asset when he starts and he looks like the first choice right now. The only caveat with Chelsea players for Double Gameweek 36 is that they have an FA Cup final three days after their second game against Leeds.</p>
<p>This means they are likely to rotate heavily in that game, but I feel with Alonso not playing as much this season he has a better chance than most to start both. I also feel the first game against Wolves which he will definitely start is almost good enough a fixture on its own.</p>
