<h2 style="text-align: left;">The Best FPL Defenders for Double Gameweek 34</h2>
<h3><strong><br />
Reece James (£6.3m) – Chelsea</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: West Ham United (H) and Manchester United (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Reece James</strong> has been a frustrating player for his owners recently. He has been benched in his last two league games (writing this before the Arsenal game).</p>
<p>He was being prioritised for the Champions League but now Chelsea are out they only have the league to focus on until the FA cup final on the 14<sup>th</sup> of May. Therefore I think he plays the majority of league games from here on in.</p>
<p>It’s not often a rotation risk player is in such high demand in FPL, but there is a reason why Reece James is still popular. That’s down to his amazing stats and the fact he plays for a solid defence. In 15 starts he has an xG of 2.43 and has created 38 Chances with an xA of 3.93 (5<sup>th</sup> amongst defenders).</p>
<p>Chelsea have a Double Gameweek in 34 as they take on West Ham United (H) and Manchester United (a). Although they come up against two decent attacking teams I am still very much confident about the Blues defensive prospects here.</p>
<p>Thomas Tuchel’s side have only conceded 23 goals (3<sup>rd</sup>) with an xGC of 31.8 (3<sup>rd</sup>) and are only marginally behind Liverpool in defensive stats.</p>
<p>They are also at 44% to keep a clean sheet against West Ham and around 35% against Man United which means they have a 63% chance to keep at least one clean sheet.</p>

<h3><strong>Antonio Rudiger (£6.2m) – Chelsea</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: West Ham United (H) and Manchester United (a)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Antonio Rudiger</strong> is perhaps a much safer bet than <strong>Reece</strong> <strong>James</strong> for this week and the run in but we also know he doesn’t provide the same attacking threat. He does provide the security of starts though which is huge, especially at this time of the season.</p>
<p>He has goals and assists in his locker, however, scoring three goals and three assists this season with an xG of 3.02 and an xA of 1.21.</p>
<p>As mentioned above the Blues have a decent double in Gameweek 34 against both West Ham and Manchester United. With the Blues out of Europe Rudiger should start both these games.</p>
<p>He has been one of the regular starters for Chelsea and only missed two league games this season and has played by far the most minutes (2520) from all Chelsea players. So although you don’t get the explosive attacking threat that James provides you do get the security of starts.</p>
<p>Also, I think the German is a great addition to his teammate and a double up on their defence this week and even until the end of the season is a decent shout. They have a double this week and another in Gameweek 36.</p>
<p>He is actually the second highest predicted scoring player overall (8.8 points) for Double Gameweek 34 according to the <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions"><strong>Points Prediction Tool.</strong></a></p>

<h3><strong>Marc Cucurella (£4.9m) – Brighton</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Southampton (H)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Marc Cucurella</strong> has started every game since his arrival. He has one assist with an xG of 0.45 but has created 39 Chances with an xA of 2.58.</p>
<p>Brighton come up against Southampton at home Double Gameweek 34.</p>
<p>The Seagulls have actually been a fairly solid defensive side over the season. They have conceded 37 goals (5<sup>th</sup>) with an xGC of 43.7 (7<sup>th</sup>) and have also kept nine clean sheets (7<sup>th</sup>). They have kept two clean sheets in the last three games and only conceded one to Arsenal in the 89<sup>th</sup> minute, in Gameweek 32.</p>
<p>Their opponents this week have scored 38 goals (14<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 47.1 (8<sup>th</sup>). So although they do create good chances they have had trouble in the finishing department.</p>
<p>Although Brighton have been quite inconsistent of late this is a good fixture for them from a defensive viewpoint and their defence is more than strong enough to keep the Saints at bay.</p>
<p>Also, Cucurella has the highest xA amongst his defensive teammates and also is nailed to start. He also has the most final third passes (453) among all his teammates so does have the ability to get attacking returns also.</p>
<p>Plus, he does seem to be the one to get the bonus points when they keep a clean sheet. He has 18 this season which again is the most amongst teammates and puts him 4<sup>th</sup> overall amongst defenders despite playing only 29 games.</p>

<h3><strong>Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) – Manchester City</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Watford (H)</strong></p>
<p>At the time of writing <strong>Joao Cancelo</strong> has one goal, nine assists this season with an xG of 4.36 (1<sup>st</sup> amongst defenders) and an has created 38 Chances with an xA of 5.06 (3<sup>rd</sup> amongst defenders).</p>
<p>Manchester City face one of their easiest fixtures of the season in Double Gameweek 34, at both ends of the field. They take on Watford at home who have scored 30 goals (17<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 37.9 (16<sup>th</sup>).</p>
<p>Furthermore, they come up against the best defence in the league in Man City. The Citizens have only conceded 20 goals (1<sup>st</sup>) with an xGC of 23.5 (1<sup>st</sup>). Liverpool have the second best xGC at 31.3 so even the gulf between first and second is huge.</p>
<p>Cancelo provides plenty of threat in the final third also. He has the most final third passes (922) in the league from any player. He is pretty much an essential pick in my opinion from now and until <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">season end.</a></p>
<p>Man City are also once again the favourite to keep a clean sheet (60%) this week and they are also the second favourites to score 2.5+ goals (60%).</p>
<p>Cancelo will very likely have a field day against Roy Hodgson’s side here. Defensive returns are very likely and with how attacking he is he can easily pick up a few attacking returns too as Watford have an xGC of 53.2 (15<sup>th</sup>).</p>
<p>The Portuguese is as safe a pick as you’ll get this week for returns.</p>
<p>Our <strong><a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Points Prediction Tool</a></strong> has him as the sixth highest predicted scoring defender (6.8 points) for Double Gameweek 34.</p>

<h3><strong>Trent Alexander Arnold (£8.4m) – Liverpool</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Everton (H)</strong></p>
<p><strong>Trent Alexander-Arnold</strong> has two goals, 12 assists and 19 clean sheets (1<sup>st</sup>) this season. He has registered 12 Shots in the Box with an xG of 2.63 and created 97 Chances (1<sup>st</sup>) with an xA of 9.91 (3<sup>rd</sup>).</p>
<p>Liverpool also have a very kind fixture in Double Gameweek 34 for both defence and attack. They come up against Merseyside rivals Everton who are having one of their worst seasons in the Premier League as they sit just three points from safety.</p>
<p>The Toffees have scored only 33 goals (16<sup>th</sup>) with an xG of 35.1 (18<sup>th</sup>) and they are also in the bottom 10 for xGC also (49.8).</p>
<p>Liverpool on the other hand have been immense at the back and have now kept 19 clean sheets (1<sup>st</sup>), conceding only 22 goals (2<sup>nd</sup>) with an xGC of 31.5 (2<sup>nd</sup>).</p>
<p>Unsurprisingly the bookmakers also have the Reds as the second favourites to keep a clean sheet (52%) and the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (68%) in Double Gameweek 24.</p>
<p>This of course bodes very well for Alexander-Arnold at both ends of the pitch given his team's solid defence and his attacking prowess. The right-back is also on set-pieces too and with him, attacking returns are just as likely as defensive.</p>
<p>He is also the fifth-highest predicted scoring defender (7.1 points) according to our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Points Prediction Tool</a>.</p>
