<p>As the season reaches endgame and we approach Double Gameweek 36, Manchester City assets represent the game’s biggest enigma. Whether your approach is data-driven or eye-test – Manchester City provide evidence every week of their attacking excellence.</p>
<p>Manchester City ranking second, this season, for minutes per expected goal (37.6) is a testament to their elite-level rivalry with Liverpool. The lack of “doubles” for Manchester City has suppressed ownership to approximately 1.3 players among the average top 10k manager.</p>
<p><strong>Phil Foden (£7.9m)</strong> boasts the highest ownership among City attackers with 10% in the top 10k, closely followed by <strong>Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m)</strong> with 6%. Manchester City’s defence has taken elite to a new level ranking first for minutes per expected goals conceded (142.0).</p>
<p>The effective ownership of City’s defence totals 110% due to the popularity of <strong>Joao Cancelo (£7.2m)</strong> and <strong>Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m)</strong>. Owners of a single Manchester City defender will be negatively impacted by a clean sheet – worth consideration ahead of two appealing defensive fixtures.</p>

<p>The focus switches to <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">Manchester City’s fixtures</a> to determine which approach is best – defensive or attack-minded. Guardiola must lift his “galácticos” after Champions League ejection to face a Newcastle side rejuvenated under Eddie Howe.</p>
<p>The Magpies are on a roll, winning four of their last six with defeats to only high-fliers Liverpool and Spurs. Newcastle have registered three clean sheets over the period and ranks seventh-best for minutes per expected goals conceded (74.9).</p>
<p>Newcastle have failed to score once in their last six but rank sixth-worst for minutes per expected goal (77.7). To demonstrate, over the period Newcastle ranked sixth-worst for big chances (7) and converted an eye-watering five big chances.</p>
<p>Notably, Newcastle demonstrate zonal weakness ranking second-worst for chances conceded from their left flank (24) over the last six. Manchester City then travels to face a Wolves side lacking confidence following three successive defeats, failing to score on each occasion.</p>
<p>Wolves registered one clean sheet and rank fifth-worst for minutes per expected goals conceded (51.9) over their last six. Wolves rank second-worst for big chances conceded (15) over the period – an ominous statistic that Manchester City can exploit.</p>
<p>In attack, Wolves rank second-worst for minutes per expected goal (107.1) failing to score in the last three. Furthermore, Wolves rank third-worst for shots in the box (36) and joint second-worst for total big chances (6).</p>

Whilst undeniably Manchester City’s best FPL defensive asset, Cancelo has suffered a recent downturn in creative output despite ranking third for expected goal involvement (1.73) over the last six.</p>
<p>For example, <strong>Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m)</strong> betters Joao Cancelo for successful crosses (15v3), chances created (17v9), and big chances created (4v1). <strong>Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m)</strong> represents a high-floor option with two goal attempts over his last six &#8211; both missed big chances.</p>
<p>Laporte ranks second amongst City defenders for baseline bonus (86) over the last six due to high-volume passing and ball recoveries. <strong>Ruben Dias (£6.1m)</strong> represents a sub 1% differential with fantastic potential to gain rank in Double Gameweek 36.</p>
<p>The Portuguese international has registered five attempts in the box over the last six, all set-piece attempts. Días rank first among City defenders for baseline bonus (87) over the last six which appeals ahead of an attractive double-header.</p>

<p>De Bruyne ranks first among his City counterparts for baseline bonus (89) over the last six largely due to chance creation. The City maestro has produced eight attacking returns over the period but FPL managers are surprisingly tentative to buy.</p>
<p>The minutes of De Bruyne were curtailed with early substitutions against Watford &amp; Real Madrid and full rest against Leeds United. Should Guardiola confirm De Bruyne’s fitness on Friday, FPL managers should jump on the big swing player for Double Gameweek 36.</p>
<p><strong>Phil Foden (£7.9m)</strong> has been underwhelming as a fantasy asset recently but produced a goal and two assists over the last six. Foden has produced modest output over the last six registering three shots on target but creating two big chances.</p>
<p>Over the period, Foden had a share of corners (14) and set-piece attempts (4) and provided both assists against Leeds.  Notably, Foden boasts the most minutes of any attacking outfield player (735) and before the full Real Madrid game, he started against a high-intensity Leeds side.</p>
<p><strong>Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m)</strong> ranks second amongst midfielders over the last six for shots (19) scoring three despite reduced minutes (318). Over the period, Mahrez boasts some corners (9) and set-piece attempts (4) and notably ranks fourth among midfielders for penalty area touches (37).</p>
<p><strong>Gabriel Jesus (£8.6)</strong> has produced seven attacking returns in his last six courtesy of six goals and an assist. The Brazilian ranks first among forwards for big chances (6) over the period and demonstrated marksmanship in dispatching five.</p>

<p>In conclusion, a defence-minded approach to Manchester City assets with <strong>Joao Cancelo</strong> is an automatic selection due to high-upside and attacking production. <strong>Ruben Dias</strong> is my preference is complete the defensive double up as a hit sub 1% differential and superior set-piece threat to his counterpart <strong>Aymeric Laporte</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Kevin De Bruyne</strong> is my final Manchester City selection and preferred attacking option who has been in a rich vein of form. The Belgian has been a top performer over the last six matches and represents a 6% differential that could provide that much needed late rank boost.</p>
