Gameweek 3 is over and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are already busy making transfers &#8211; but who were the biggest under-performers of the week and who scored more points than they should have?
Every season, we see the biggest haulers of the previous gameweek brought into hundreds of thousands of teams.
But the secret to success in FPL is to jump on players who are about to score more points &#8211; not chasing points.
So with this in mind, we&#8217;re taking a look at the expected points for FPL Gameweek 3 and highlighting those who were fortunate to score well &#8211; and who perhaps could have netted a haul themselves.
We&#8217;ll then examine an early list of the most popular transfers in and out. Are the early bandwagons worth jumping on &#8211; and are some players being moved on in disgust too early?

<h2>Biggest FPL over-performers of the week</h2>
Raheem Sterling (£7.1m) topped the list of over-performers, having racked up a league-leading 19 points in Gameweek 3.
His two goals and one assist led came against an expected goal involvements (xGI) figure of 1.7.
But his strong performance wasn&#8217;t entirely unexpected &#8211; the Hub&#8217;s Chris Tan predicted Chelsea would have plenty of joy down Luton&#8217;s left in his weekly <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-gameweek-4-fixture-analysis">fixture analysis article</a>.
Malo Gusto (£4.1m) also benefited, contributing two assists from an expected assists (xA) tally of 0.45.

Two goals in 13 minutes from Darwin Nunez (£7.3m) helped 10 man Liverpool defeat Newcastle. The Uruguayan showed sharp finishing abilities, defying his expected goals (xG) of 0.61.
In an interview with a Uruguayan radio station, Nunez said his country&#8217;s new manager Marcelo Bielsa has had an influence. He said:
<blockquote>&#8220;I had a chat with Bielsa over Zoom. Bielsa showed me some of my games things and corrected some things that seem positive to improve.
&#8220;He tells me to run behind the second centre-back so they lose my position. It was a very good talk. He seemed like a good guy to me and a serious guy. I hope to meet him next week and do my best for the team.&#8221;

Nunez&#8217;s minutes are an issue for his fantasy prospects at present, however it&#8217;s worth seeing whether this improves &#8211; and if Bielsa&#8217;s words of wisdom translate into more than just one week of returns.

Rodri (£5.7m) is another player of note. He scored his second goal of the season at the weekend &#8211; ranked as an over-performance because his xG was 0.33.
Usually a defensive midfielder, he said that the arrival of Mateo Kovacic (£5.0m) had afforded him more <a href="https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/man-city-kovacic-rodri-news-27608192">opportunities to get forward</a>. He said:
<blockquote>&#8220;I think I can improve in these terms [scoring more goals] even though I know it is not my role.
&#8220;I know I can do it and in some situations where I read the games and pay attention to the strikers and the wingers I can take advantage of this space in the final third that they generate. I&#8217;m trying to improve in this sense.&#8221;</blockquote>
He added:
<blockquote>&#8220;Ilkay and Kevin played much higher than me so I needed to cover them but now with Mateo I can go forward more. He&#8217;s a very experienced player and a smart player.&#8221;</blockquote>

<h2>Biggest under-performers of the week</h2>

Erling Haaland (£14.0m) scored one goal against Sheffield United on Sunday (August 27).
The Manchester City forward over-performed his xG in the Premier League last season &#8211; but in Gameweek 3, it was a case of what could have been.
He recorded an xG of 2.01 &#8211; higher than Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) in second on 1.34.
Brighton&#8217;s Evan Ferguson (£5.9m) played 90 minutes against West Ham but missed two big chances in the 3-1 defeat, with an xG of 1.21.
And Everton attackers continue to struggle in front of goal.
It was Neal Maupay (£5.0m) who under-performed in Gameweek 1 and it was the turn of Arnaut Danjuma (£5.5m) in Gameweek 3.
Danjuma also failed to score, despite having two big chances. His xG was slightly lower than Ferguson&#8217;s, at 1.04.
The Toffees&#8217;s xG of 2.68 was the sixth highest of the week.

<h2>Biggest bandwagons: FPL transfers in</h2>
Sterling and Gusto are the most popular transfers in so far, on the back of their hauls against Luton.
Early transfers are inadvisable, as Chelsea play AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup tomorrow. Making sure the Blues avoid injuries could be more beneficial than the duo&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fantasy-premier-league-price-rises">potential price rises</a>.
That being said, Chelsea&#8217;s fixtures do rank fourth best on our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixture ticker</a> over the next five gameweeks.
James Maddison (£7.7m) and Destiny Udogie (£4.6m) face Burnley and Sheffield United next, with their fixtures rated third strongest over the same period.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglu <a href="https://twitter.com/BenDinnery/status/1695444597634125932">played down talks of a knock</a> to Udogie after he came off in the second half of Spurs&#8217; victory over Bournemouth.
But again, with Spurs in cup action tonight, it may be wise to wait before making any transfer decisions.
Elsewhere, Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) and Bryan Mbuemo (£6.8m) have been the subject of sales after their blanks against Crystal Palace.
Brentford&#8217;s fixtures remain strong though, with our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-gameweek-4-fixture-analysis">fixtures article</a> noting their potential to profit from Bournemouth&#8217;s weaknesses in Gameweek 4.

<h2>FPL transfers out</h2>
The injury to <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/luke-shaw-fpl-injury-news-replacements">Luke Shaw (£5.4m)</a> has seen the Manchester United full-back shipped out of more than 500,000 teams.
Gabriel (£4.8m) missed out on a place in Arsenal&#8217;s starting 11 once again, with 334,000 FPL managers justified in moving him out en masse.
Manchester United and Arsenal players make up half of the top 10 most transferred out. The two teams play each other in Gameweek 4.
Brighton&#8217;s Joao Pedro (£5.5m) and Kaoru Mitoma (£6.6m) make the top five, with the Seagulls&#8217; fixtures toughening.
But Newcastle&#8217;s fixtures improve from Gameweek 5 &#8211; and sellers of Alexander Isak (£7.7m) and Kieran Trippier (£6.5m) may soon regret their decision.
Isak was one of the most popular transfers in ahead of Gameweek 2 &#8211; and this article argued hopping on the Swede after his brace was too early.
