<p>Gameweek 9 is over and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are busy making transfers &#8211; but who were the biggest under-performers of the week and who scored more points than they should have?</p>
<p>Every season, we see the biggest haulers of the previous gameweek brought into hundreds of thousands of teams.</p>
<p>But the secret to success in FPL is to jump on players who are about to score more points &#8211; not chasing points.</p>
<p>So with this in mind, we&#8217;re taking a look at the expected points for FPL Gameweek 9 and highlighting those who were fortunate to score well &#8211; and who perhaps could have netted a haul themselves. We&#8217;ll also examine an early list of the most popular transfers in and out.</p>

<h2>Popular FPL transfers in</h2>
<p><strong>Ollie Watkins (£8.3m) </strong>is the most popular transfer in, with nearly 300,000 managers buying him already this week. He managed a goal and assist in Gameweek 9 and plays Luton at home in Gameweek 10.</p>
<p><strong>Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) </strong>rose in price overnight (Tuesday, October 24), as forecast by our new-look <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fantasy-premier-league-price-rises">FPL price changes predictor</a>. The Liverpool midfielder has scored 31 points in the last two games.</p>
<p>Watkins and Salah were also the top two transfers in ahead of Gameweek 9.</p>
<p><strong>Douglas Luiz (£5.5m) </strong>makes the top three on the back of a 15 point haul against West Ham, which included two goals.</p>

<h2>Popular FPL transfers out</h2>
<p><strong>Pervis Estupinan (£5.0m) </strong>has been out injured since Gameweek 8 but still remains in 26.2% of FPL teams. He is the most popular transfer out this week, with around 220,000 moving him on.</p>
<p>Estupinan was ruled out for around a month back on October 5, however there has been much less certainty over the fitness of <strong>Sven Botman (£4.7m)</strong>.</p>
<p>Newcastle manager Eddie Howe only confirmed after the Magpies Gameweek 9 fixture that <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-gameweek-9-review-botman-and-march-injury-latest-luiz-record-palmer-on-penalties-again">Botman</a> was unlikely to be available for another couple of weeks. The news has prompted around 155,000 owners to take him out of their FPL teams.</p>
<p>More than 150,000 managers have had enough of <strong>Marcus Rashford (£8.7m)</strong>, while <strong>Erling Haaland (£14.0m) </strong>continues his recent appearances in the top 10 transferred-out list.</p>

<h2>Gameweek 9 over-performers</h2>
<p><strong>Jacob Murphy (£4.8m) </strong>and <strong>Mykhailo Mudryk (£6.3m) </strong>top the list of over-performers this week, with doubt among pundits over whether they meant their lobbed goals.</p>
<p>Regardless of intent, their efforts came against extremely low expected goals (xG) tallies &#8211; 0.1 for Mudryk and 0.05 for Murphy.</p>
<p>Mudryk also grabbed an assist, while Murphy managed two, and again they came in defiance of low expected assists (xA) totals.</p>
<p>Neither make the top 10 for transfers in though, indicating FPL managers remain unconvinced they can keep up their returns.</p>
<p>The same can&#8217;t be said for Luiz, whose Gameweek 9 performance led to him being one of the most transferred-in players.</p>
<p>The Brazilian midfielder was the fifth biggest over-performer of the week, bettering his expected points by 7.3.</p>
<p>He scored two goals, one from the penalty spot, and his over-performance can be explained through his open-play goal. His non-penalty xG (NPxG) was 0.1, with his strike coming outside the box.</p>
<p>Luiz broke a longstanding Aston Villa record by scoring in six successive home games, so is a player in excellent form.</p>
<p>And although he has over-performed his expected points this season (+10.36), he only just creeps into the season-long top 20 over-performers, ranking 20th.</p>
<p>His scoring streak at home is bound to end sooner rather than later, however the fact he is on penalties makes him one to consider in the ever-competitive <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/best-budget-midfielders-gameweek-9">budget midfielder</a> category.</p>

<p>Elsewhere, it&#8217;s notable that most transferred-in Salah and Watkins both make the top 10 for over-performance in Gameweek 9.</p>
<p>But with their form and <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/best-and-worst-fixtures-fpl-gameweek-9-10">fixtures</a>, it is hard to make a case against them being justified selections at this stage.</p>
<p>Watkins is the biggest over-performer of the season though, outscoring his expected points by a massive 28.4. Much of this comes from the fact he has eight assists while posting an xA of 0.79.</p>

<h2>Gameweek 9 under-performers</h2>
<p>No one dodged a major haul in Gameweek 9, with <strong>Luca Koleosho (£5.0m) </strong>under-performing the most.</p>
<p>He was 5.6 points short of his expected points, missing a big chance in Burnley&#8217;s loss to Brentford.</p>
<p><strong>Manuel Akanji (£5.0m) </strong>was <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-yellow-cards-23-24-season">sent off</a> in Manchester City&#8217;s win over Brighton, a match in which the champions conceded despite recording an expected goals conceded (xGC) of less than one (0.8).</p>
