Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike a serious injury in the Champions League on Tuesday (April 15) – but what’s the latest on his fitness and is it time to sell him in FPL?
The Frenchman is in more than 28% of teams, making him the fourth most popular forward in the game.
He has already been transferred out of 327,000 teams this week, a figure that will likely rise if positive news is not given by Arne Slot later this week.

What’s the latest on Ekitike?

Ekitike went down off the ball in the first half of Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
He had to be taken off on a stretcher, while he was seen holding his leg in pain.
Speaking after the match, Slot indicated that the signs were not good:

“Hugo looks really bad but it is difficult to say how bad,” Slot said after the game.
“Let’s see. It doesn’t look good, that is clear. I didn’t see him at half-time and after the game he was already home. I have not spoken to him yet.”

It was reported that the striker could have ruptured his Achilles tendon and was set for months on the sidelines.
That was confirmed on Wednesday, with Liverpool releasing a statement ruling him out for the rest of the season and upcoming World Cup.

Is Ekitike a sell in FPL?

Ekitike owners will now have to move him out of their squads.
Double Gameweek 33 begins on Saturday and with managers loading up on picks with two fixtures, Ekitike may have been one to sell for a doubler in any case.

Transfers out soon after the injury happened

Does Ekitike’s injury change chip strategy plans?

As ever, decisions on chip strategy are highly team dependent.
But Ekitike’s injury could prompt a rethink on some managers’ chip plans.
Those hoping to avoid free hitting in Blank Gameweek 34 may have been relying on him, given Liverpool are among the teams with a fixture that week.
With the focus on doublers this week – who then are without a fixture in the blank – needing to use a transfer to deal with Ekitike could tip the balance in favour of a Free Hit 34 for some. It may be that taking hits is required to get a full 11.
There are different ways to play Double Gameweek 33 if multiple chips remain available. Wildcarding now instead of after the blank could be an option for Ekitike owners who are low on free transfers.

Best FPL replacements for Ekitike

Hub AI’s predicted points for forwards over the next three gameweeks puts Erling Haaland well ahead of the rest.
The Manchester City striker is already highly owned though, while his price point will be difficult to stretch to for Ekitike owners who do not already have the Norwegian.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Joao Pedro are the other popular picks on Wildcard this and last week, in recognition of their double gameweeks.
Leeds rank second on the Hub’s fixture ticker up to the end of the season – and with Wolves (H) and Burnley (H) between now and Gameweek 35, the focal point of their attack should get plenty of chances.
Danny Welbeck is an alternative to Calvert-Lewin and also plays twice in Gameweek 33. His minutes are tougher to judge though, with a benching or early substitution likely in at least one of Brighton’s fixtures.
Igor Thiago is not among the doublers but that may not matter, with a brace in Gameweek 32 taking him to 21 league goals – just one behind Haaland.
The Brentford striker has the benefit of a game in Blank Gameweek 34, while Fulham (H) next is a decent single match. He could match some of the double gameweek picks.
