<p><em><strong>A Quarter Final Wildcard guide for Matchday 5</strong></em> for<em> the official Euro 2020 Fantasy game presented by the brilliant <a href="https://twitter.com/FPL_JianBatra">Jian Batra</a>.</em></p>
<p><em>This article will focus on <strong>the best 15 players to make up your Euro 2020 Wildcard squad</strong> with individual analysis on all players and includes <strong>captaincy tips </strong>at the end!</em></p>

<h2>Euro 2020 Matchday 5 Wildcard Team</h2>

<p>Before I start I’d like to put a quick disclaimer, this team and the reasoning behind it are all based on my assumptions. As we have seen throughout the tournament, there have been many upsets and anything can happen.</p>
<p>This playing style has worked well for me (I&#8217;m currently at <strong>14k overall rank</strong>), so I will continue to persist with this approach.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2>England &#8211; Essential on a Wildcard</h2>
<p>Four games into a major tournament and <strong>not a single goal conceded</strong> is extremely impressive.</p>
<p><strong>Gareth Southgate </strong>is employing a pragmatic approach which is proving very beneficial for Fantasy managers with <strong>England only conceding</strong> <strong>three big chances across the tournament</strong>.</p>
<p>I expect the same against Ukraine, the England manager may revert to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 but as evidenced in the group stage, England are efficient regardless of the system deployed.</p>
<p><strong>Harry Maguire,</strong><strong> John Stones and Jordan Pickford</strong> are all guaranteed a start and I like that sense of security at the back.</p>
<p>I don’t see any other teams being more likely to keep a clean sheet than England, and the centre backs have good capabilities to score from set pieces.</p>
<p>Moving onto <strong>Raheem </strong><strong>Sterling</strong>, whilst I don’t think his performances have been brilliant, he’s in good goal scoring form and confidence in a major tournament is as powerful a tool as any. Given the other midfield options, I think he’s worthy of a spot in your side.</p>

<h3>Tournament Progression</h3>
<p>I feel England will reach the final.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2>Belgium</h2>
<h3>Thibaut Courtois + Thomas Meunier</h3>
<p>I wasn’t overly impressed by the Italian&#8217;s patterns of play when going forward against Austria and I expect Belgium to reach the final (and beat Italy).</p>
<p>Doubling up on these two will provide a sense of longevity but more importantly I think they will keep the Italians out.</p>
<p>Italy are likely to struggle to operate efficiently enough in the final third and don’t have a player who will position himself in the inside channel/ half spaces to disrupt the Belgian&#8217;s 3-4-3 set up.</p>
<p>They have some very good players but not the sort to consistently unlock the Belgian defence.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Romelu Lukaku</h3>
<p>The Belgian remains my pick for the golden boot. I expect <strong>Patrik Schick</strong> and Czech Republic to go out this round so <strong>Lukaku </strong>will only need two more goals to catch <strong>Cristiano Ronaldo</strong>. Belgium will have a slight over reliance on him to score given <strong>Kevin De Bruyne</strong> and <strong>Eden Hazard</strong> may miss <strong>Matchday 5</strong>. Given his quality, I expect him to rise to the occasion.</p>
<p>The Italians are good defensively but over the course of potentially 120 minutes, especially when the game gets stretched and Lukaku’s physicality comes more into play, the Belgian will definitely have a chance or two.</p>
<p>I expect him to utilise the inside full back channels as much as possible to exploit the left side, especially when <strong>Leonardo Spinazzola</strong> is pushed up and he can try and get one on one with <strong>Francesco Acerbi</strong> (the last report I read on <strong>Giorgio Chiellini</strong> was that he is a doubt for the game).</p>

<h3>Tournament Progression</h3>
<p>I feel Belgium will meet England in the final, hence the triple up.</p>
<p>I will add more Belgian players to this squad after the Quarter Final, should they progress.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h3>Lorenzo Insigne</h3>
<p>I wouldn’t be surprised if Italy nick a goal, <strong>Insigne </strong>is a main source of their creativity and has a high level of involvement for their attacks. As such, he is a viable option which provides some sense of security by hedging my bets against Belgium.</p>
<p>On the transition is where I would expect him to score if the Belgian wingbacks and centrebacks lose focus. He also has some set piece responsibilities which opens up the avenues for points.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2>Denmark</h2>
<p><strong>Denmark </strong>have been massively impressive, especially the three players below.</p>
<p>I expect them to beat Czech Republic and against England in my predicted semi finals, I genuinely wouldn’t be shocked if they defeat them. This makes Danish assets even more crucial on a Euro 2020 Fantasy Wildcard.</p>

<h3>Mikkel Damsgaard</h3>
<p>Short and sweet analysis because he does the talking for me on the pitch.</p>
<p>Good ball progression, tidy on the ball, efficient and quick in the pockets between the lines. He has a goal in him and large general involvement.</p>
<p>Against a 4-2-3-1 in particular, I think <strong>Damsgaard </strong>will find a lot of space high up the field.</p>
<p>What enhances this pick even more for me is the Czech Republic used a high press against England. I expect they will do the same in <strong>Matchday 5</strong> and this translates to an opportunity for a massive haul.</p>
<p>The Danish put four past Wales and are clearly confident enough to score a large quantity of goals.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Kasper Dolberg</h3>
<p>First time I ever watched him play was against Wales and I was mightily impressed.</p>
<p>Three things which stood out to me:</p>
<p>1. <strong>Clinical finishing ability</strong></p>
<p>2. <strong>Hold up play</strong></p>
<p>3. <strong>Positioning</strong></p>
<p>He’s another player with a huge upside and having just bagged a brace, <strong>Dolberg</strong> will undoubtedly be full of confidence.</p>
<p>The 1st and 3rd points listed all lead to goals but the 2nd brings in the potential for assists, which only heightens his ceiling even further.</p>
<p>In terms of him starting, I think his previous performance warrants a sense of trust from his manager. There are also reports of <strong>Yussuf Poulsen</strong> sustaining a hamstring injury, so he may not be available for <strong>Matchday 5</strong>.</p>

<p class="css-901oao r-18jsvk2 r-1qd0xha r-a023e6 r-16dba41 r-rjixqe r-bcqeeo r-bnwqim r-qvutc0" dir="auto" lang="en"><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Arguably performance of the tournament against Wales, he was everywhere. </span></p>
<p dir="auto" lang="en">Forms part of a very competent defence and defensive system, which allows him to operate in extremely advanced positions. This results in Maehle having such high expected goals and expected assists figures for a defender so his ceiling is excellent.</p>

<h2>Spain</h2>
<h3><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Alvaro Morata + Pablo Sarabia </span></h3>
<p><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Both are heavily involved in everything Spain do,</span><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"> they&#8217;re in good form and have a high points potential against <strong>Switzerland</strong>. </span></p>

<p>I’m unsure of <strong>Luis Enrique’s</strong> approach in regards to how expansive he will set <strong>Spain </strong>up to be. As such, these two picks are based on strategy rather than rating them as Euro Fantasy assets for <strong>Matchday 5</strong>.</p>
