Euro 2024 starts on June 14 – but each competing nation has played a series of warm-up friendlies, giving fantasy managers an idea of their pre-tournament form.

Below you’ll find a quick summary of each of these friendlies, which should help inform your decisions ahead of the first game of the tournament.

Every team apart from Georgia was scheduled to play at least twice before the tournament kicks-off, with the first games on Monday, June 3 and last on Tuesday, June 11.

Who will play at right-back for Netherlands between Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong? Who is in prime position for England’s left-back slot if Luke Shaw isn’t ready in time? And will Leroy Sane break into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany 11 after he picked two unchanged lineups in June?

Fantasy managers were looking for plenty of clues from these friendly games, so be sure to have a read of our guide below before finalising your picks.

Many nations’ fixtures saw a mixture of regulars and fringe players lining up, with managers keen to test out various options ahead of the tournament.

Albania

Albania’s lineup looked close to full strength in their second friendly against Azerbaijan but there appears to be a battle in goal between Thomas Strakosha and Etrit Berisha – both €4.0m options in the UEFA game. Berisha started five to Strakosha’s three in qualifying. Nedim Bajrami starred in their warm-up friendlies, with a goal and two assists, while Armando Broja earned two starts. Jasir Asani showed his class by scoring from a free-kick against Liechtenstein.

Austria

Austria are without number one Alexander Schlager for Euro 2024 through injury but €4.0m Patrick Pentz is expected to start in goal. Ralf Rangnick experimented with his side over both warm-up matches but Christoph Baumgartner was on target in both games, adding an assist. Austria play France first, by which time we would expect to see Marcel Sabitzer return to the side. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder missed the friendlies after taking part in the Champions League final but is a mainstay of the team.

Belgium

The absence of Thibaut Courtois in goal raised hopes of a cut-price Matz Sels starting between the sticks, however Koen Casteels has been confirmed as Belgium’s number one. €4.0m defender Wout Faes will likely feature in defence, although the return of Axel Witsel has led some to speculate that he may not start. Both started against Luxembourg though, with Jan Vertonghen still working his way back to full fitness. The second friendly saw an injury scare for Thomas Meunier, presenting an opportunity for Maxim De Cuyper. Romelu Lukaku warmed up for the tournament with a brace.

Croatia

Croatia will go into a tough Euro 2024 group with a confidence-boosting win over Portugal. Familiar figures including Dominik Livakovic, Josko Gvardiol, Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic, Mateo Kovacic and Ivan Perisic are expected to be key players, however one player who could have forced his way into the starting 11 following two goals and two friendly starts is midfielder Lovro Majer.

Czechia

Czechia warmed up for Euro 2024 with two wins, including a 7-1 thumping of Malta. Key players include Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, while Patrik Schick will lead the line. Schick took a penalty in their final warm-up game and has gone under the radar this time despite being joint-top scorer at the last Euros. Coufal also played well in that tournament, with two assists, and he set up two goals against Malta. The starting spot in goal is between Jindrich Stanek (€4.0m) and Matej Kovar (€4.0m), with both given a run-out in the friendlies. The team is without Michal Sadilek after the midfielder injured himself on a tricycle last weekend.

Denmark

Denmark warmed up for Euro 2024 with two victories over their Scandinavian rivals. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in both friendlies – and with ball recoveries a factor in the official game, he could be a real option at €5.5m. Christian Eriksen showed his class with a long-distance goal and an assist in the first friendly, while also registering five key passes. Wing-back Joakim Maehle has been a fantasy favourite in previous tournaments and he should be a factor here too, having four shots on goal, three key passes and missing a big chance against Sweden. Victor Kristiansen is another to watch – the full-back grabbed an assist against Norway.

England

Losing to Iceland in their final warm-up game was not ideal preparation for the Three Lions but they are still among the favourites for Euro 2024. Injuries have affected their backline, with Marc Guehi in line to replace the injured Harry Maguire and Kieran Trippier standing in for Luke Shaw until the Manchester United left-back is fit enough to feature. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kobbie Mainoo earned starts alongside Declan Rice in midfield – another slot up for grabs – but the UK press has hinted that it’s Alexander-Arnold who is in line for a start in Matchday 1. Jude Bellingham missed both friendlies after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid but will be back in the starting lineup come England’s opening game.

France

Kylian Mbappe warmed up for the Euros with a goal and two assists against Luxembourg and was rested against Canada, playing just 16 minutes. France’s centre-forward starter is unclear going into the tournament, with Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram given opportunities in the warm-ups. Jules Kounde meanwhile appears to be the favourite to start at right-back, a position which was also in doubt in the run-up to the summer.

William Saliba started the second friendly, however Didier Deschamps has previously been critical of the Arsenal centre-back and has not favoured him, so don’t bank on a start unless Deschamps liked what he saw against Canada.

Central midfield would usually be occupied by Adrien Rabiot and Aurelian Tchouameni, however with both fitness concerns for the opener, it could be N’Golo Kante and Eduardo Camavinga who start. Antoine Griezmann is crucial to the way France play – he made eight key passes over the two friendlies,

Georgia

Georgia are the lowest-ranked side in Euro 2024 but they head into the tournament with a win from their sole warm-up match under their belt. Fantasy options are headlined by talisman Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Napoli midfielder who is on penalties and plays up front for his nation. Giorgi Chakvetadze (€4.5m) could be an enabler, with a goal and three assists in qualifying. And centre-back Guram Kashia was among the best for ball recoveries in qualifying – although clean sheets could be hard to come by.

Germany

Julian Nagelsmann looks to have a settled starting 11, with the team lining up against Greece expected to be the 11 who play Scotland in the Euro 2024 opener. €4.0m left-back in Maximilian Mittelstadt, who made five key passes in the first friendly, is a gift at such a budget price, while there will be plenty of interest in the German attacking options. Nagelsmann has made shuffled his attack early in the second-half in both friendlies however, something to be aware of when considering fantasy selections. Toni Kroos has been key to a recent revival in German fortunes. He registered seven ball recoveries and three key passes – one a big chance – against Greece and could catch the eye of UEFA when man of the match awards are handed out.

Hungary

Dominik Szoboszlai is the Hungary talisman, with six key passes in their first warm-up friendly. But it was striker Barnabas Varga who was the talking point against Israel, with a brace and an assist. Szoboszlai picked up a knock against Israel but has said he will be ‘fine’ for the Euros. In goal, Peter Gulacsi appears to be back in pole position for the number-one jersey after missing qualifying through injury.

Italy

Italy could play three or four at the back at Euro 2024 but who gets the nod is up for debate. Left-back Federico Dimarco (€5.0m) is the safest bet. Andrea Cambiaso (€4.0m) could start at right wing-back if Giovanni Di Lorenzo is preferred at right centre-back in a back three but his place is by no means assured.

Gianluca Scamacca has competition up front but is likely to be the one trusted to start the tournament. Davide Frattesi made an argument for a starting spot with a star performance against Bosnia and Herzogovinia, in which he scored and created one big chance as well as two key passes. Jorginho (€5.0m) offers a budget fantasy option and should be on penalties.

Netherlands

Two 4-0 wins have prepared the Netherlands well for the start of Euro 2024. In fantasy terms, who starts between Jeremie Frimpong v Denzel Dumfries has been a crucial question but it is still not completely clear as things stand, particularly as injuries in midfield could see Ronald Koeman’s tactical plans shift.

Frimpong started on the right wing in game one, managing a goal and assist, three shots and two key passes. Koeman said he ‘certainly stood out’. In the second game, Dumfries started at right-back and picked up an assist. Frimpong was a 76th minute substitute for Xavi Simons, indicating a more advanced role could be planned for the Bayer Leverkusen star – but starting both Frimpong and Dumfries may be too attack-minded.

According to the experts at Football Oranje, the Dumfries/Simons combination could be preferred for Matchday 1, although Donyell Malen is a threat to Simons. Both scored against Iceland. If Frimpong does start, we could see the more defensive Lutsharel Geertruida start at right-back over Dumfries.

Injuries have put a downer on preparations, with both Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners withdrawing from the squad. De Jong had hoped to play a part amid ongoing recovery from an ankle injury but pulled out on Monday (June 11). Left-back Ian Maatsen has replaced him in the squad. Meanwhile, Teun Koopmeiners was ruled out on Tuesday after coming off injured against Iceland. A replacement has yet to be announced.

Koeman previously confirmed Bart Verbruggen (€4.5m) would be number one for the tournament.

Poland

Poland’s preparations for Euro 2024 were impacted when Robert Lewandowski went off injured around 30 minutes into their final warm-up match against Turkey on Monday (June 10). Karol Swiderski also went off with an ankle problem, sustained after celebrating his early goal.

Manager Michal Probierz said Swiderski would need tests before knowing the extent of the problem, while he was hopeful there ‘should be no problem’ with his star striker. He confirmed Lewandowski would not need to pull out of the tournament – but it later emerged he had torn his hamstring and would miss the first game of the tournament at least. Poland are also without Arkadiusz Milik after he injured his knee against Ukraine.

Portugal

Portugal took the unusual step of scheduling three friendlies, with Cristiano Ronaldo only making the last game following the end of the Saudi Arabia season. He arrived with a bang though, scoring twice and also struck the post. Bruno Fernandes scored two and assisted one over the three games, the same tally as Diogo Jota. Against Finland, Francisco Conceicao recorded a trio of assists but did not start either of the next two games.

Roberto Martinez has experimented with four and five at the back – and with the tactics affecting the likely picks from a talented squad, sticking to the core talents of Diogo Costa, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Fernandes and Ronaldo may be the most sensible play early on. Diogo Dalot could line up on the other side of the defence to Cancelo, however Nuno Mendes has started two games and some believe he could feature ahead of the Manchester United man.

Romania

A pair of warm-up friendly 0-0 draws underlines the lack of attacking options in fantasy terms for Romania, however a defender such as Radu Dragusin (€4.5m) could interest some as a cheap enabler. In goal, Horatiu Moldovan (€4.0m) is likely to be the number one, despite Florin Nita starting the first friendly.

Scotland

Scotland had been on a run of seven games without a win coming into their two warm-up friendlies but a win and a draw have stopped the rot. That being said, the Scots were 2-0 up against Finland before a second-half comeback saw the match end on level terms. Lawrence Shankland started both games up front with Lyndon Dykes missing the Euros.

Serbia

Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Tadic scored in Serbia’s final warm-up game, with the former getting his first start of the June friendlies having played the second-half against Austria. Fellow striker Dusan Vlahovic started both games.

Slovakia

Interest in Slovakian players is likely to be minimal, however full-back David Hancko (€4.5m) picked up an assist against Wales. He started every game in qualifying, with more goal involvements than any of his teammates – two goals and three assists. Martin Dubravka was the number-one goalkeeper in qualifying and should continue as a starter in Euro 2024.

Slovenia

Slovenia’s stars are goalkeeper Jan Oblak and striker Benjamin Sesko, whose five goals in qualifying could persuade some to punt on him up front. Adam Cerin (€5.0m) is a lesser-known option. The midfielder scored one and assisted three in qualifying and offers a more attacking option at this price point than the likes of Jorginho.

Spain

Spain head into Euro 2024 on the back of twice scoring five goals. Mikel Oyarzabel grabbed four of the goals, however he appears unlikely to start, with captain Alvaro Morata favoured and Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal impressing out wide. At left-back, Alejandro Grimaldo and Marc Cucurella have shared minutes, offering no clue as to the preferred starter and therefore making them risky fantasy picks. Rodri (€6.5m) managed nine ball recoveries against Northern Ireland and could be on penalties. Pau Cubarsi, the teenage centre-back who picked up an assist against Andorra, has been cut from the final squad.

Switzerland

Manuel Akanji is arguably the pick of the Swiss players, with the Manchester City defender registering more ball recoveries in qualifying than any other player. Zeki Amdouni looks to be the preferred striker – and he won a penalty and scored against Estonia. Xherdan Shaqiri is on penalties. The former Liverpool player missed a spot-kick against Estonia, only for VAR to order a retake and for him to score at the second attempt. Shaqiri offers value in midfield at (€6.5m)

Turkey

Turkey prepared for Euro 2024 with friendlies against two fellow finalists in Italy and Poland. €4.0m goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was given the nod ahead of Mert Gunok and Ugurcan Cakir in the first game, however Gunok starting the second probably ends hopes of another super-budget fantasy pick. Hakan Calhanoglu (€6.5m) created more chances against Poland (five key passes to two). The Inter Milan player should be on set-pieces and penalties but failed to score or assist in qualifying. Real Madrid’s Arda Guler (€6.0m) is not certain to start, having not made the starting 11 in either friendly, however his 45 minutes against Poland could have seen him play his way into the starting 11. He completed four key passes, including one big chance created and had four shots on goal. No player got a better rating on both Sofascore and Fotmob.

Ukraine

Ukraine have a strong squad going into Euro 2024 and they warmed up for the tournament with three friendlies. There are a couple of unknowns in terms of team selections, starting in goal. Anatoliy Trubin and Andriy Lunin are expected to be the leading candidates for the number-one jersey but Sergiy Rebrov gave each of his goalkeepers 90 minutes. Trubin started six games in qualifying to Lunin’s two, however it was Lunin who was trusted in Ukraine’s playoff games – and some believe his excellent season for Real Madrid puts him in the driving seat.

Up top, Artem Dovbyk has attracted attention after top scoring in La Liga and represents a differential option in the various fantasy formats. Buyers beware though, as he has competition from Roman Yaremchuk, who started two of the three friendlies. The pair shared starts in the two playoff games and even if Dovbyk gets the nod at Euro 2024, he could be vulnerable to early substitutions. He played just 536 minutes over 10 games in qualifying.

Midfielder Giorgiy Sudakov, 21, impressed in the final friendly, with a goal and two assists. Having started all 10 qualifying games, he is one of our top differential picks for the tournament. There was less good news for Vitaliy Mykolenko though, who went off with an ankle injury.
