 FPL winner Jamie Pigott has revealed his draft Gameweek 1 team exclusively for Fantasy Football Hub.

His victory represented a meteoric rise in terms of his FPL history.
In his first season, in 2019/20, Jamie ranked 4,060,168th. He improved to 230,507th the following season before claiming the title in just his third season playing the game.

He beat runner-up <a href="https://twitter.com/suvanshfpl">Suvansh Singh</a> with a team on the final day of the season captained by Son Heung-min. The top two were separated by a single point going into the final round of fixtures.
The<a href="https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2022/june/spurs-fan-jamie-crowned-fpl-champion-from-9-million-entries/"> Tottenham Hotspur fan</a> could also rely on a clean sheet from Spurs' Ryan Sessegnon to help him on the way to victory.
His score of 72 points in Gameweek 38 was enough for him to claim the win. And those Spurs assets were a key part of the puzzle, with captain Son registering a 24 point haul.
Below, Jamie looks back at his winning season in his own words and talks us through his Gameweek 1 team for 2022/23.

<h2>Realising you've won Fantasy Premier League</h2>
It's May 22, 2022. Gameweek 38. It’s been a hectic two hours, trying to calm my nerves and keeping tabs on 10 different TV screens, waiting to find out if the decisions I've made the past few weeks and months will culminate in the ultimate prize. 
I’m sitting 12 points clear. I do the math and realise Trent Alexander-Arnold needs to score two goals in added time for me to lose and it hits me.
I think I won FPL … The final whistles blow across the league and what once seemed unimaginable is real...overall rank (OR) 1.
Its over two months later and I still can’t quite grasp the magnitude of it all. First American to win arguably the largest and most difficult fantasy sports competition in the world.
Thrilled. Proud. Surprised.Humbled.
It feels very fitting as an American with my Ted Lasso-inspired team name futbolislife.
It’s like the Boston Tea Party of fantasy sports, beating the UK at its own game: Premier League Soccer… or as you all call it in the UK, football.
Looking ahead to new season on the horizon, I find myself with a little more attention on my team and my decisions this year.
While last year's decisions were free from scrutiny,this year’s come with added pressure. 
Some say it was all luck that I won. That it was just a product of the unlikely season filled with Covid postponements and never-ending stream of double gameweeks. 
I can’t deny that luck is a big factor in doing well at this game but I believe it was matched with skill and I relish the opportunity to prove them wrong.

<h2>Jamie Pigott's Gameweek 1 draft FPL team: General approach</h2>
If you followed the story of my season last year, you may know some of my style of play. 
I consider myself a fairly risky FPL manager - I chase upside and like a good differential. 
I lean into the variance in the game and try to set up my team to capitalise on the luck that is a big part of the game.
I’m more conservative relative to sticking to my plan and avoiding hits, but my plan often has a little bit of spice.
I like to jump on players before they are in the template, understanding that all of those picks won’t hit. 
If not, I’m not afraid to move them on.
While I like to take risks, I think its important to understand the risk and make what I call calculated risks.
I don’t pick a differential just because they are different, but because of logic and understanding of the risks. 
Understanding what you are going without and ways the rest of the field can hurt you is just as important as knowing way your team can gain on the field. 
<h4>Short-term planning</h4>
Looking at this upcoming season, the unlimited transfers for the World Cup after Gameweek 16 means our first Wildcard doesn't have to last nearly as long as a typical season. 
With that in mind, I’m leaning towards using my first Wildcard as early as Gameweek 4. I've set up my team with the first few weeks in mind. 
Since my planning horizon is short-term, I've set my team up with less positional flexibility, relative to different price points, less bench cover and I've taken some risks to attack the first couple of weeks.
I do this knowing I can of course correct if I need to, with that first Wildcard and pivot to a longer-term planning approach at that time.
If my aggressive strategy works, I could pivot to a relatively safer and reliable team and maintain any early gains.
