A record number of FPL chips was played in Double Gameweek 24 and it&#8217;s advantage triple captainers as Mohamed Salah put on a show against Bournemouth.

<h2>Advantage triple captainers amid record chip usage</h2>
Late news of a Double Gameweek 25 on Friday (January 31) saw many FPL managers opt to use the new <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-assistant-manager-chip-tips-for-success">Assistant Manager</a> chip in the first week it became available.
Before Friday&#8217;s news, Salah was set to become an extremely popular <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/what-is-the-fantasy-premier-league-triple-captain-and-when-to-use-it">Triple Captain</a> pick but the appeal of back-to-back doubles shifted the conversation to using the Assistant Manager.
Both chips turned out to be highly used, with a record 2.68m activated ahead of the deadline &#8211; more than the previous high of 2.38 in Double Gameweek 37 last season, according to the <a href="https://www.premierleague.com/news/4236752">Premier League</a>.
The chip usage was broken down as follows:

<li>Triple Captain: 1.13m</li>
<li>Wildcard: 129,674</li>
<li>Free Hit: 123,991</li>
<li>Bench Boost: 111,461</li>

Of the Assistant Manager chips used, around 577,000 opted for Arne Slot, with 416,000 going for David Moyes. Both scored well, with Liverpool&#8217;s 0-2 win over Bournemouth earning 10 points and Everton&#8217;s 4-0 victory against Leicester giving Moyes 12.
The two teams meet in the final game of Double Gameweek 24.
But as it stands, it&#8217;s the Salah Triple Captain backers who are ahead, with the Egyptian scoring twice to rack up 16 FPL points with a game to go.

<h2>Most-sold Wood and Elanga punish poor Brighton</h2>
Chris Wood was the most sold player ahead of the double, with more than 500,000 getting rid of the Nottingham Forest frontman.
Cody Gakpo and Iliman Ndiaye were sought-after forwards for their two games, being brought into 1.1m and 605,000 teams respectively.
The duo have five and eight points apiece so far, tallies well beaten by Wood&#8217;s 17 point haul against Brighton.
The New Zealand international scored a hat-trick in Forest&#8217;s 7-0 hammering of Brighton, with his FPL score the highest of the week.
A penalty helped elevate his expected goals (xG) to 2.16 &#8211; another league-leading number, while no one had more shots on target (four) or big chances (three) than him.
Winger Anthony Elanga assisted three of Forest&#8217;s goals, also earning him a double-digit score (13).
Forest have one of the worst fixture runs over the next few gameweeks, making Wood an understandable sell.
He has however now scored 17 goals this season, a tally bettered only by Salah and Erling Haaland. It would not be a surprise to see his points continue to tick over despite the difficult run.

<h2>Watkins injury latest</h2>
The expected minutes for Ollie Watkins were improved when fellow striker Jhon Duran departed for Saudi Arabia.
And with a potential <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-blank-double-gameweek-guide">double gameweek</a> for Aston Villa next up, Watkins could be a popular transfer in.
This will all depend on his fitness though, having been forced off with a muscle problem in the first half of Villa&#8217;s defeat to Wolves.
New signing Donyell Malen came on in his place and had a goal disallowed by VAR when Morgan Rogers was penalised for being offside in the build up.
Speaking after the game, Villa manager Unai Emery said:
<blockquote>&#8220;I changed him because he was feeling a little bit of pain in his muscle. Hopefully tomorrow we will test him and assess him and it won’t be anything important. I changed him because of it.&#8221;</blockquote>
There is a long gap between now and the Double Gameweek 25 deadline on Friday, February 14.
Villa play Ipswich the following day, with an FA Cup match on Sunday (February 9), so there is plenty of time for Watkins to recover.
Meanwhile, the loan signing of Marcus Rashford could open up a differential route into the Villa attack should they double. All eyes will be on the cup game to see if he plays and how he performs.

<h2>Alexander-Arnold a doubt for second game of double</h2>
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a concern for FPL managers after he was subbed off in the 70th minute of the Bournemouth game.
The full-back could miss Liverpool&#8217;s crunch Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Spurs, which will decide whether they double in Gameweek 25 and blank in Gameweek 29.
Speaking after the game, Arne Slot said:
<blockquote>
&#8220;The situation is he said to me that you have to take me off and he sat on the floor and we took him off.
&#8220;He felt something, I can’t tell you exactly what it was and how bad it is as we are [talking now] only just after the game. But it’s never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution.
&#8220;It’s not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday. Let’s hope he is back with us as soon as possible.”

The Reds face Everton in the league on Wednesday, February 12.

<h2>Flekken misses out, Raya fit</h2>
Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken was ruled out of Sunday&#8217;s game against Spurs with a side strain, manager Thomas Frank confirmed.
Hakon Valdimarsson deputised and will be on standby for future games &#8211; but Frank is hopeful Flekken will be back soon. He said:
<blockquote>&#8220;He had a side strain. Let&#8217;s see, we have two weeks now until the next game. Hopefully, he&#8217;ll be back for West Ham.
&#8220;I thought it was a solid performance from Hakon.&#8221;</blockquote>
Elsewhere, David Raya was fit to start for Arsenal after being labelled a doubt before the deadline.

Brentford fell to a 0-2 home loss at the hands of Spurs on Sunday but managed the most shots on goal over the weekend. Unfortunately for the Bees however, just four of the 20 were on target and they came away with nothing from their 2.29 xG.
Arsenal put five past Manchester City, well in excess of their 1.05 xG.
No team had more big chances than Everton (seven), while Forest players contributed more FPL points as a team than any other side. Their 108 was more than Everton&#8217;s 82.
