Cole Palmer (£6.1m) scored four times on Monday (April 15) as Chelsea brought Gameweek 33 to an end with a bang.

The Chelsea midfielder, now the joint-highest scoring player in the game, is level with Erling Haaland (£14.3m) in the race for the Golden Boot on 20 goals.

FPL Gameweek 33: Haaland rewards majority who captained him

After a split in the captaincy choices in Gameweek 32, this week was a much clearer call.

Haaland was the overwhelming choice of the top 250,000 managers for Manchester City’s home game against Luton.

The Norwegian assisted a goal in the first minute, with his off-target effort deflecting off Daiki Hashioka’s head and into the net after two minutes. He then converted a second-half penalty on his way to 10 FPL points.

Haaland had the joint-best expected points in the league – until Palmer overtook him – and had three big chances.

His points total was ahead of next-most popular captain Mohamed Salah (£13.5m). The Liverpool man blanked as the Reds fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

Cole Palmer (£6.1m), backed by 5%, was the pick of the bunch on 26 points.

FPL Gameweek 33: Palmer’s second successive Stamford Bridge hat-trick

Chelsea were 6-0 victors over Everton on Monday, a game which saw Palmer score a hat-trick within the first 29 minutes. It was his second in a row at home following his goals against Manchester United.

He was gifted his third after he intercepted Jordan Pickford’s pass out from the back, lobbing the Toffees goalkeeper.

Palmer is evidently not struggling to score goals at present – and perhaps his biggest challenge came in the second half when the Blues won a penalty at 4-0 up.

The 21-year-old became involved in an argument with Noni Madueke (£5.3m) and Nicolas Jackson (£6.8m), who tried to take the ball from his hands.

The scenes were described as ‘unacceptable’ by Mauricio Pochettino, who confirmed Palmer was the club’s official penalty taker.

His successful spot kick was his ninth penalty goal of the season and put him firmly in the race for the Golden Boot. Only Ollie Watkins (£8.8m) has more than Palmer’s 30 goal involvements.

FPL Gameweek 33: Chaos over Foden leak

Engaged members of the FPL community have become increasingly reliant on team leaks in recent seasons, with ‘in-the-know’ accounts releasing lineup news ahead of the deadline.

The leaks divide opinion, although ultimately those looking for an edge have to keep track of them before making moves.

The issue was thrust firmly in the spotlight on Saturday, when pre-deadline posts indicated Phil Foden (£8.2m) would start against Luton, despite picking up a knock in the Champions League.

This was surprising but welcome news for the 33% of FPL managers who owned him. But fast-forward a few hours and there was no sign of Foden in the starting 11 – and Guardiola referenced ‘incorrect’ leaks post-match after being asked if Foden was ever due to start.

It was a timely reminder that leaks are acted upon at FPL managers’ own risk and should never be assumed to be 100% reliable, especially when kick-off is hours away from the deadline.

FPL Gameweek 33: Porro injury latest, Cunha on ‘limited minutes’

Matheus Cunha (£5.6m) returned to the Wolves starting 11 for the first time since his hamstring injury, scoring twice against Nottingham Forest.

He will be a popular transfer in ahead of Double Gameweek 34, given Wolves play twice.

But Gary O’Neil noted how he was managing the Brazilian’s minutes and the squad as a whole was ‘patched up’. He said:

“Cunha was on limited minutes and I probably pushed him five or six minutes past what he should have been on today, Channy [Hwang] on very limited minutes and Daws [Dawson] is just trying to get through the last two games off the bench for us, but he’ll probably have groin surgery – or some sort of procedure to try and help him – at some point this week as he’s going through some pain at the moment.

“Nelson [Semedo] was exhausted and both hamstrings tightened up, Pablo [Sarabia] looked tired at the end, so it’s a really patched-up group that gave absolutely everything, showed a great mentality, but we can improve on that.”

There was also no Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m), who was a doubt ahead of the weekend. O’Neil said:

“It was a late call because he was doing well this week and up until yesterday we thought he would be available to start, but then he had a small issue with his fitness test with the medical team, so Doc [Doherty] came in for him, did a good job on that left side, because you know what you’re going to get from Doc, but it is another key player missing.”

Elsewhere, Pedro Porro (£5.9m) picked up a hamstring injury in Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-0 loss at Newcastle. Ange Postecoglou said:

“He felt something in the first half and he wanted to see how it went in the second half. I haven’t checked with the medical team yet but we’ll see what the issue is.”

Spurs blank in Double Gameweek 34, however FPL interest will be renewed afterwards as the Champions League-chasing side double twice.

Pedro Porro’s stats

Conor Bradley (£4.3m) was potentially coming to the end of his fantasy appeal with the imminent return of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m).

But his withdrawal in the second-half of the Palace match may hasten his departure from FPL teams – and heighten interest in Alexander-Arnold who came on for him.

Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp said:

“Conor overstretched his foot slightly. The first moment and what Conor felt didn’t look great, [but] now I heard a little bit that it’s settled quite quickly.

“I don’t know. Is the ligament damaged or not? I don’t know, so we will get this information tomorrow or Tuesday, but it was very painful for him so that’s not cool.”

It was a bad weekend for full-backs, as Pervis Estupinan (£4.8m) also went off for Brighton after just 13 minutes with a twisted ankle.
