This FPL Gameweek 33 strategy article reviews the FPL points as a metric team after Gameweek 32. We take a quick look at the data, then focus on the teams with a double gameweek this week, before moving on to the team for Gameweek 33.

Gameweek 32 Review – FPL Strategy

Incredible week for the team this week: 88 points ranking as our fourth best ranking week of the season. We’ve climbed from 45k to 27k in one go, mainly due to a hat-trick from captain Heung-Min Son (£11.1m) and a 12-pointer from Dejan Kulusevski (£6.3m). 54 points from two players has got us back inside the top 30k, and we now have two free transfers ahead of Double/Blank Gameweek 33.

The Data – FPL Double Gameweek 33 Strategy

Goalkeepers

As we can see, it’s Norwich that have conceded the most FPL points to opposition Goalkeepers so far.

Brighton, Wolves, Watford, and Burnley make up the remaining teams in green.

When we look at FPL Points scored by goalkeepers, Liverpool are top, with Wolves, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea making up the top five.

Defenders

Chelsea are still top of the table for FPL Points scored by defenders, with Liverpool now in second.

Man City, Spurs and Wolves make up the top five defences scoring the most FPL points.

Norwich have conceded the most FPL Points to opposition Defenders, and Leeds, Everton, Burnley and Watford make up the remaining green teams. Wolves defenders are both scoring and conceding lots of FPL Points.

Midfielders

The Midfielder table shows Liverpool are well out on top in this position. Man City are in second, with West Ham, Man United and Chelsea making up the top five.

Leeds have conceded the most FPL points to opposition Midfield units so far.

Norwich, Brentford, Watford and Burnley make up the five teams conceding the most points.

Forwards

Watford, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Norwich and Southampton make up the top five teams for Forwards with the most FPL points so far.

A lot of these teams play two up top each week, which can sway the numbers to a certain extent.

There really isn’t a lot to choose from in this position right now, making it tricky to identify targets for our team. Harry Kane (£12.5m) is ticking over as he should given his price tag.

Given that there are no other real standout options, should we finally bring him in, or is Son enough? So far, he seems to be.

Newcastle, Everton, Norwich, Southampton and Watford are the teams conceding the most FPL points to opposition Forwards.

Home and Away Data – Points Per Game Basis

The teams performing worst at home according to FPL Points Conceded per game are Watford, Norwich, Burnley, Leeds and Brighton.

Away from home, Norwich, Leeds, Everton, Brentford and Burnley are performing poorly. Note that Burnley, Leeds and Norwich are giving up plenty of points, regardless of whether they’re home or away.

The teams performing well at home according to FPL Points Scored, in respect of Points Per Game, are Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs.

Liverpool and Man City are absolutely dominating in their home fixtures, averaging over 60 FPL Points Scored per game.

The teams performing well away from home according to total FPL Points Scored per game are Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Man City and Wolves.

Specific Double Gameweek Data

Arsenal

Arsenal have a decent fixture followed by a tough one here. Their midfielders are in the top five teams scoring the most FPL Points away from home, and Bukayo Saka (£6.8m) is heavily owned.

Southampton are in the top five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition Goalkeepers and Forwards when they play at home, so Ramsdale and Lacazette could maybe do well. But if I could only own one this week it would be Saka.

Brighton

Brighton are a complete avoid for me this week, given their fixtures.

Burnley

Those of us with Wout Weghorst (£6.4m) are in a real pickle now – as whilst Burnley has a double, Weghorst has continued to disappoint. Southampton are in the top five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition Forwards when they play away, but Burnley don’t appear to be getting the best out of Weghorst.

So much like Brighton, I wouldn’t be targeting Burnley here, and would maybe consider selling Weghorst despite him doubling.

Leicester

Both teams that Leicester face are in the top five teams that concede the most FPL Points to opposition Forwards. Leicester themselves are in the top five teams scoring FPL Points at this position when they play away.

The problem for Leicester is the rotation. They are still in European action, and that is their priority. For the Metric Team, we will be keeping a keen eye on who gets the majority of minutes upfront, before a potential punt on Patson Daka (£7.0m) or Kelechi Iheanacho (£7.1m)

James Maddison (£7.0m) and Harvey Barnes (£6.6m) whilst not forwards, are interesting options.

Man United

The key game for United here is Norwich. They are in the top five teams for conceding the most FPL Points to opposition at every single position. In terms of FPL Points scored however, United are actually far better away from home.

If you’re on a Free Hit then I’d imagine you have to include the likes of Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.2m), but United are not playing well and seem to lack cohesion right now. Whether or not that matters against Norwich, I’m not sure.

Newcastle

There is lots of hype around Newcastle right now. They’ve improved dramatically since the investment in January and the appointment of Eddie Howe, and they now have a decent double gameweek. Leicester, who play Thursday night in Holland, followed by Crystal Palace, both at St James Park.

Leicester are in the top five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition Midfielders when they play away, but I don’t really see any of Newcastle’s midfield options as appealing.

If you fancy a punt on The Magpies’ cheap defenders, Fabian Schar (£4.4m) seems to be the best bet. On set pieces, and a bonus point magnet, he’s a fine choice for at least Gameweek 33 and 34.

Southampton

Southampton seem to be in a bit of a rut right now, and whilst the Arsenal game could be more of the same, they should be winning the Burnley game. The likes of James Ward-Prowse (£6.4m), Che Adams (£6.8m) and Armando Broja (£5.5m) could be interesting differential options on a Free Hit this week.

Those of us who still have Tino Livramento (£4.3m) could roll him out and expect a decent return, against a Burnley side that are in the top five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition Defenders when they play at home.

To Free Hit, or not to Free Hit?

As it stands, we won’t be using our Free Hit this week. There is huge opportunity for gains, no question about it, but there are a lot of uncertainties in the teams that double this week.

For me, that doesn’t warrant use of a chip, and so we shall be holding ours for later on in the season.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Team

So after that deep dive into the data, here is the current lineup for Gameweek 33:

The injury to Matt Doherty (£4.9m) brings us a move straight away, as he is looking at being out for the remainder of the season. We also have a couple of players blanking this week. We could move towards assets doubling this week, but a lot of these may only be short term holds.

Transfers – FPL Double Gameweek 33 Strategy

Initial instinct is to bring in a Leicester player, be that a Forward (risky) or a Midfielder (less risky). Minutes in Europe are a key thing here though, so we will be keeping an eye on their game on Thursday.

Doherty being out means we may look at a Defender too, as we will have to move him on at some point anyway.

Chris Wood (£6.7m) could also be a short term punt, but is a transfer out waiting to happen.

Captaincy – FPL Double Gameweek 33 Strategy

Heung-Min Son (£11.1m) is the Bus Team captain, but this will very likely change to a doubler that we bring in.

All eyes on midweek football and the Press Conferences as usual!
