<p>Despite conceding a few late consolation goals in recent weeks, Manchester City have the best defensive numbers in the league.</p>
<p>They have the lowest Expected Goals Conceded (xGC) of any team, both over the last six gameweeks and for the season as a whole.</p>
<p>Other than Brighton, Manchester City have the best fixtures from a defensive point of view this week too, based on the combined Expected Goals (xG) of their opponents.</p>
<p>England man <strong>John Stones (£5.5m) </strong>has two goals in his last two games for City, and is thriving in a new defensive midfield role under Pep Guardiola.</p>

<p>This new position is allowing Stones to make more passes, higher up the pitch, which is contributing to his potential for bonus points and assists, as well as adding open play goal threat to an already substantial threat from set-pieces.</p>
<p>City's opponents this week West Ham and Fulham have both struggled in front of goal at times this season, with the absence of <strong>Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.6m)</strong> a costly one for the Cottagers' attack.</p>
<p>With the level of control that City exert over their opponents, clean sheets are always a possibility, and after their win over Arsenal, confidence should be at an all time high.</p>
<p>Stones can therefore provide points potential at both ends of the pitch for a reasonable price, and his new midfield role makes him the standout pick of the City defenders.</p>
