<h2>Best FPL Players for Gameweek 12 &#8211; Gallagher vs Smith-Rowe</h2>
<p>Coming off the back of their first England call-ups and a fine start to the season, this article compares young midfielders <strong>Conor Gallagher</strong> and <strong>Emile Smith Rowe</strong> as FPL assets.</p>
<p>Both should be considered as <strong>two of the best value midfielders</strong> in the game, highlighted further by the fact the both sit in the top five for points so far in the midfield category. They also rank first and second for points recorded by midfielders priced under £10.0m. Given both have <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/"><strong>decent fixtures coming up</strong></a>, they should be high up on your watchlist as cheap midfielders.</p>
<p>Below I’m going to compare these two players&#8217; statistics, heat maps and other metrics. The aim is to spot trends and help you decide if either of these two should get a valuable place in your FPL team.</p>

<p>Nothing separates Smith Rowe and Gallagher in terms of price, with both coming in at <strong>£5.8m</strong> at time of writing. That ranks them first and second for value out of midfielders.</p>

<p>Gallagher&#8217;s positioning is distributed far more sparsely across the pitch, yet he has the most advanced forward red area.</p>
<p>Gallagher also tends to find himself in areas on the edge of area more commonly than Smith Rowe, with the Chelsea loanee a threat from this area with his technical ability and composure.</p>
<p>As can be seen by the corners of the pitch, Gallagher also takes corners from both sides, whereas Smith Rowe rarely does. Despite all of this, there isn&#8217;t a significant difference between the pairs&#8217; general positioning.</p>

<p>The above table gives each players goal threat data per 90 minutes.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that <strong>Smith Rowe has averaged 81 minutes per appearance, compared to Gallagher&#8217;s 88</strong>. With Arsenal&#8217;s extra squad depth and domestic commitments, Smith Rowe is the likelier of the two to be subject of rotation or early substitutions.</p>
<p>Given Gallagher&#8217;s extra minutes, the data per 90 minutes does slightly favour Smith Rowe, yet <strong>Gallagher still beats him in every goal threat metric so far this season</strong>. Gallagher is averaging 0.75 more shots per game, although he has worse accuracy, with only 44% of his efforts ending up on target.</p>
<p>In comparison, 63% of Smith-Rowe&#8217;s shots end up on target. That being said, 81% of Smith-Rowe&#8217;s shots are in the box so it&#8217;s not exactly surprising his accuracy is far better than Gallagher&#8217;s, who takes 63% of his shots in the box.</p>
<p><strong>Gallagher has averaged over seven times more big chances per 90 minutes so far this season</strong>, resulting in an xG double that of Smith Rowe. Both have outperformed their xG, with Smith Rowe doubling his tally, and Gallagher effectively equalling his.</p>
<p>Some might say Smith Rowe&#8217;s overperformance is unsustainable but he has the ability to carry on outperforming his xG in my opinion. He marginally outperformed his measly xG total last season, and he&#8217;s only going to improve.</p>

<p><strong>Gallagher also beats Smith Rowe in every creative metric</strong>, making more key passes, setting up more big chances and tallying a higher expected assist and actual assist per 90 minutes.</p>
<p>Despite creating over double the goals that Smith Rowe has per 90 minutes, Gallagher has only registered 0.08 more expected assists per 90. That still beats the Arsenal midfielder, however.</p>
<p>Gallagher also has taken 2.5 corners per 90 minutes this season, compared to Smith Rowe&#8217;s 0.81. Free-kicks are also taken by the Palace midfielder, taking 1.23 per 90 (1.13 more than Smith-Rowe).</p>

<p><strong>Palace&#8217;s fixtures look slightly more appealing than Arsenal&#8217;s</strong> across the next six, with home ties against Aston Villa, Everton and Southampton, as well as favourable trips to Turf Moor and Elland Road.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Arsenal have to go away to both Anfield and Old Trafford, with a tough home tie set up in Gameweek 17 against West Ham. Burnley are top for shots in the box conceded so far this season, a nice stat for those willing to punt on Gallagher ready for Gameweek 12.</p>
<p>Villa and Leeds have also conceded the joint-sixth most. Comparably, Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool are all in the top eight for fewest shots in the box conceded.</p>
<p>I would argue that they both have similar fixtures across Gameweeks 16 and 17, so the period to compare is from now to Gameweek 15. On paper, <strong>Palace&#8217;s fixture look more favourable</strong>.</p>
<p>Another point worth mentioning is that Aston Villa and Leeds rank first and second for percentage of chances conceded centrally. Despite Gallagher often drifting out to the left, nearly all of his shots have come from the centre of the pitch.</p>
<p>Burnley and Aston Villa also rank first and second for most shots in the box and shots conceded across the last six fixtures, so Gallagher looks like a good option for the next two.</p>

<p>Little separates the two midfielders on the Hub&#8217;s prediction tool, with Gallagher slightly edging it over the next three gameweeks, although Smith Rowe does over the full eight gameweeks (with an average of 3.7 &#8211; Gallagher&#8217;s projected 3.6). It is worth noting that the computer doesn&#8217;t take into account rotation due to busy scheduling, and Smith Rowe is more likely to be affected by that.</p>

<p>Despite both performing at a similar standard so far this season, <strong>I would recommend selecting Gallagher over Smith Rowe</strong>. He has the underlying <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> on his side, as well as the fixtures and the extra security of minutes in the busier Christmas schedule.</p>
<p><strong>Both are great options</strong> however, and I wouldn&#8217;t be against selecting both to free funds up elsewhere.</p>
