Joao Pedro and Viktor Gyokeres were among the disappointments in FPL Gameweek 9 &#8211; but is it worth persisting with them amid favourable fixtures?
Hundreds of thousands of FPL managers think &#8216;no&#8217;, with the Chelsea and Arsenal frontmen among the most popular transfers out ahead of the weekend.

<h2>How are FPL forwards performing generally this season?</h2>
Erling Haaland aside, who leads the way on 85 points, it&#8217;s been an underwhelming start for the FPL forwards.
Brentford&#8217;s Igor Thiago is the only other forward in the top 20 &#8211; and he&#8217;s down in joint 19th place alongside Sunderland centre-back Omar Alderete on 45.
Alderete is among 11 defenders in the top 20, with the new <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-defcon-points-watch">defensive contributions</a> helping to boost many of their scores.
This is a useful starting point when considering how to structure our FPL squads going forward, especially when the likes of Gyokeres take up a fair chunk of the budget.

<h2>Joao Pedro: Keep or sell in FPL?</h2>
Pedro started the season as a risky pick, with his minutes in question because of Chelsea&#8217;s squad options.
An injury to Liam Delap helped cement his place but he&#8217;s been unable to capitalise on the opportunity &#8211; and Delap is now set to return.
The Brazilian has two goals and three assists, however three of these goal involvements came against West Ham in Gameweek 2.
Worryingly, he&#8217;s not had a shot on target since Gameweek 3 and he&#8217;s managed a minimal expected goals (xG) tally of just 0.22.
This helps to justify selling him despite appealing fixtures. Spurs (A) in Gameweek 10 is followed by Wolves (H) and Burnley (A).
Enzo Fernandez leads the Blues for total shots (15), attempts on target (eight), big chances (six) and xG (3.79).

So while he could find some form in the next three, dropping him for the similarly priced Jean-Philippe Mateta is an option.
<a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Hub AI</a> prefers Mateta in this period, ranking him second best behind Haaland.
Finally, manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that Pedro is not fully fit as well as managing expectations over his goalscoring potential:

&#8220;He&#8217;s going to score goals with us. He&#8217;s going to give us assists, knowing that Joao Pedro is not a number nine that is going to score 20 goals each year.
“It&#8217;s not Joao, he&#8217;s a fantastic player, he&#8217;s going to score goals for us, he&#8217;s going to give us assists. But it&#8217;s a different kind of nine, like this kind of nine that they score 20-25 goals each year like Lewandowski, Mbappe or Haaland.&#8221;

<h2>Viktor Gyokeres: Keep or sell in FPL?</h2>
Gyokeres has scored three goals but like Pedro, Gameweek 2 helped to inflate his <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> after he grabbed a brace against Leeds.
The Swedish international has failed to justify his £9.0m price tag, with five successive two-pointers.
His attacking threat has been minimal, with an xG of 1.39 over his last five games.
But while he could be sold to free up funds, Gyokeres&#8217;s <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> do look better than Pedro&#8217;s.
Over the season, he&#8217;s joint top for shots on target (seven), first for shots in the box (19), big chances (six) and xG (3.51).
Burnley are next for the Gunners and they have the worst expected goals conceded (xGC) in the league (17.8).
Gyokeres is the predicted to be the third highest-scoring forward in Gameweek 10.
Hub AI ranks four of his teammates above him however, opening the door to a reshuffle of Arsenal assets.
But those who currently own him could wait another week before getting rid.
