Fantasy Premier League is about to return from the international break, and Manchester City look like a team you’ll want to focus on.
City have two games against teams who are 20th and 19th in their next matches. First up is Wolves, who have conceded the most shots on target in the Premier League this season. 
After that Pep Guardiola&#8217;s side play Southampton, who have the third-highest xGC (Expected Goals Conceded)xG against total (14.05).
Beyond that, City’s third opponents Bournemouth are one of just six Premier League sides to concede 40+ shots on target this season.
Erling Haaland is owned by 73.3% of all FPL managers, so chances are you’ll either have him or can’t afford him.

Based on Squawka’s ratings, Josko Gvardiol is the <a href="https://www.squawka.com/en/features/european-team-of-the-season-so-far/">best left-back across Europe’s top five leagues right now</a> (78%). 
That’s mostly due to his attacking play. He’s had the most shots on target for a defender in the Premier League since the start of last season, with 19.
The main question with Gvardiol is his defensive returns, as City have kept just one clean sheet this season. 
However, Southampton are the lowest scorers in the division, with four goals in total. For that alone, it might be worth signing.

Unlike a lot of City players, Rico Lewis seems fairly rotation-proof. He’s one of Pep Guardiola’s favourites, particularly with Rodri out for the season. 
Key for FPL, he’s a defender who often operates in midfield. Bear in mind that his goals will be worth six points. 
However, he doesn’t seem to be much of a shooter or a creator in this role as things stand. Lewis is yet to have a shot on target this season, with four shots in total. 
He averages 4.63 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes in the league his season, the most of any defender. 
Yet when it comes to chances created, his average is 0.56 per 90. He also hasn’t created any ‘big chances’ despite his two FPL assists (only the assist against West Ham was judged ‘intentional’ by Opta).
At £4.7m he still feels underpriced, but – as controversial as this may sound among the FPL community – if you can afford Gvardiol, Lewis might be one to avoid.

City have just one clean sheet this season but their xG conceded (7.84) is the fourth-best and only four teams have conceded fewer goals. 
Overall, Ederson’s ‘goals prevented’ total is 1.54, the seventh-best in the Premier League.
Wolves have the league’s third-worst xG total (6.61). Then, in Southampton and Bournemouth, City face two of the worst xG underperformers in the Premier League this season. Southampton have scored just four goals from an xG of 8.34. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s eight goals have come from an xG of 12.24. 
It appears therefore that Ederson is the best option to sign right now for those with their heart set on an ‘elite’ £5.5m goalkeeper. 
Liverpool No.1 Alisson is of course injured, and Arsenal face some of the league’s best attacks across their upcoming games.
As always, though, the goalkeeper spot is an area where many don’t see much value in investing heavily. 
Nottingham Forest still look defensively solid and have a favourable run of games against weaker attacks (Crystal Palace H, Leicester City A, West Ham H) – though definitely look out for Matz Sels (£4.5m) fitness news on that front. 
Elsewhere, Everton also have winnable post-international fixtures and Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) just kept his first clean sheet of the season against Newcastle.

Phil Foden is one of the biggest dilemma’s in FPL right now. It’s easy to forget he was the second-highest points earner in FPL last season behind Cole Palmer (£10.8m).
His slow start to 2024/25 is of course due to fitness. But he’s now featured in each of City’s past three matches, starting against Fulham last time out. 
He was also in the line-up for their Champions League game against Slovan Bratislava, making it back-to-back starts. 
Foden is yet to score or assist in the Premier League this season, but hasn’t played enough minutes for strong conclusions to be drawn on his output (though he averages the third-most shots for City per 90 with 2.7.
Overall, it’s a question of whether Foden is still too big a rotation risk to justify spending £9.2m. 
What perhaps swings it is the Kevin De Bruyne (£9.4m) fitness situation. If there’s any suggestion from Guardiola this week that De Bruyne could feature against Wolves, the fact he’s only £0.2m more expensive makes Foden an avoid for us in favour of his Belgian teammate – especially for those rebuilding their squads through wildcards and looking ahead.
