Gameweek 12 was a mixed bag for FPL managers, with huge hauls for some midfield assets while many popular picks drew blank, leading to a season-low average score of 32 points with one game still to come.

🥇 Eberechi Eze – 20 points

Sunday will live long in the memory for both Arsenal fans and Eze, who bagged himself a decisive hat trick in the North London Derby.

The England man produced three well taken goals in the 4-1 victory – all from open play – and FPL managers are likely to flock to Eze as the Arsenal attacker of choice, with Mikel Arteta’s side boasting a good fixture run from Gameweek 13.

It’s worth noting however that Gameweek 12 was only the second instance this season of Eze scoring more than six points, so it’s difficult to imagine this kind of productivity every week.

🥈 Murillo – 17 points

Murillo’s 17 points at Anfield this week could be a sign of things to come for Nottingham Forest defenders under new manager Sean Dyche.

It was a first clean sheet of the season for Forest, who now head into a favourable run full of confidence after a comprehensive win over Champions Liverpool.

The Brazilian defender added a goal and defensive contribution points to his total, and we could see plenty more hauls of this kind for Murillo in weeks to come given the style of play implemented by Dyche.

🥉 Morgan Rogers/Harvey Barnes – 15 points

Rogers’ brace earned Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Leeds, taking the midfielder to five attacking returns for the season before Villa host struggling rivals Wolves in Gameweek 13.

His well taken free-kick goal was further evidence of the quality the England man offers, with Unai Emery’s side often looking to Rogers to drive forward from open play too.

Barnes was another on the list of England midfielders to bag himself multiple goals this week, with his two against Manchester City putting a dent in the title aspirations of Pep Guardiola’s side.

🎖️ Other notable haulers: Daniel Munoz and Yankuba Minteh

The impressive Daniel Munoz continued to display why he’s arguably worth the extra cash over his Palace teammates, with a healthy 14 point haul that takes him behind only Gabriel in the defender standings.

Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh was another who hit a double-figure tally thanks to his two assists, and with Brighton entering a strong fixture run next week his popularity is sure to soar.

Minteh has been excelling in an advanced role for the Seagulls, and this week was no different as the Gambia international frequently found himself positioned ahead of the likes of Danny Welbeck once again.

Thiago misses second penalty and chance at a haul

It could have been a big haul for Thiago this week, with the Brentford striker’s popularity surging in FPL over the last couple of gameweeks.

Unfortunately for his owners, this could be the last week the Bees forward is any kind of differential, as Keith Andrews’ side now host Burnley, with other relegation candidates Wolves and Leeds also to come in the next five.

It could have been a different story had the Brazilian converted his second spot kick, but in the end Brentford’s defeat saw Thiago come away with just 4 points for his trouble – a disappointingly small reward for those who went a couple of weeks early on the bargain-priced forward.

Captaincy candidates disappoint but no cause for Haaland concern

It was a tough week for most of the big captaincy contenders including Erling Haaland who blanked for just the third time this season.

The Norwegian racked up a non-penalty xG (expected goals) tally of 1.54 however, more than any other player in Gameweek 12, and City have a plum fixture at home to Leeds up next – there is little reason to reconsider the view of Haaland as the automatic captain option in most weeks.

For Mohamed Salah and Liverpool meanwhile it was a different story – Arne Slot’s side have now lost seven of their last eight league games, and there have been few signs of any improvement in an attacking sense.

The Egyptian has managed just three attacking returns in that period despite his £14.2m price tag, and he is now unlikely to be considered for the armband before his AFCON departure, particularly given the favourable nature of Haaland’s upcoming fixtures.

Semenyo absent as Cherries held by West Ham

The most-owned asset in the game after Haaland, there was baited breath surrounding the fitness of Semenyo heading into Gameweek 13.

In the end, the Ghana international was ruled out through a combination of illness and injury, while Bournemouth were awarded a penalty against the Hammers which may well have been taken by Semenyo – instead Marcus Tavernier stepped up and converted from the spot.

There is respite for Semenyo’s owners however, as the Cherries still have good fixtures in the short to medium term, including Sunderland, Everton and Burnley in the next five.

Star attackers uninvolved for Palace again

Those who took a gamble on Jean-Philippe Mateta as their captain in a tricky week for Haaland and City will have been bitterly disappointed to see the Frenchman leave the field of play with 1 point in the 59th minute, having now registered just two shots in the last two gameweeks.

Ismaila Sarr meanwhile is without a return in five gameweeks despite playing 90 minutes in every fixture during that spell.

The Senegal man has taken nine shots and created four chances across this run of blanks, so there isn’t necessarily a reason to panic – at least until the midfielder departs for AFCON.

Here are a few things you may have missed in Gameweek 12:

Jarrod Bowen is the first FPL forward to receive defensive contribution points following his all-action performance against Bournemouth
The entire Hammers backline also hit the defensive contributions threshold against the Cherries, which could be something to bear in mind for those facing Andoni Iraola’s side in the coming gameweeks
Jurrien Timber is putting his hand up in the absence of Gabriel following another attacking return, with the Dutchman producing 11 returns in 11 starts this season
Only three players have scored more FPL points than Palace’s Daniel Munoz this season – Erling Haaland, Gabriel and Antoine Semenyo

Bukayo Saka once again earned points for his defensive contributions, but his tally paled in comparison to Eze and plenty will be considering freeing up some cash with a ‘sideways’ move between the two Gunners assets
Budget forward Marc Guiu picked up an assist in his 14 minute cameo – the Chelsea man is now priced at a staggeringly low £4.2m
Popular transfer-in Virgil van Dijk picked up points for his defensive efforts despite Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat – a sign that the Reds’ skipper can still find a way to points despite Arne Slot’s side struggling for clean sheets
Highly-owned defensive picks Senesi and Munoz just one booking away from suspension ahead of some strong fixtures for both sides
