<h2><strong>What are the new injury time rules?</strong></h2>
<p>The ball was only in play for an average of around 55 minutes last season.</p>
<p>As reported ahead of <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/new-injury-time-rules-fpl-impact">Gameweek 1</a>, Premier League officials were keen to improve this figure.</p>
<p>Time has been added on for things like substitutions, injuries, set-piece preparations and goal celebrations in an attempt to claw back time.</p>
<p>A similar approach was used in the Qatar World Cup, which gave football fans their first taste of games with extremely long periods of injury time. England's game against Iran saw more than 27 minutes of added time played.</p>
<p>Similar was expected in this season's Premier League, with fantasy managers warned to expect clean-sheet wipeouts and goals aplenty.</p>
<p>Research highlighted on Twitter by <a href="https://twitter.com/FPLFocal/status/1726741589651825054">FPL Focal</a> indicated there have been more goals and fewer clean sheets at this stage of the season than in recent campaigns.</p>
<p>But has that really been down to the the new rules?</p>

<h2>How much extra time has been added on to Premier League games?</h2>
<p>Referees have awarded an average of 10 extra minutes per Premier League game this season. More has been added to the end of the second-half (6.4 minutes) than the first-half (3.5 minutes).</p>
<p>There has been as little as five added minutes in two games this season, ranging up to 22 minutes at the other end of the scale.</p>
<p>Fulham v Sheffield United in FPL Gameweek 8 was the record-breaker, in which <strong>Willian (£5.3m) </strong>scored the Cottagers' third goal in the 92nd minute.</p>

<p>A total of 14 minutes was added on to the first half after Sheffield United defender <strong>Chris Basham (£4.0m) </strong>received extensive treatment for an horrific leg injury.</p>
<p>Spurs v Chelsea in Gameweek 11 had 21 minutes of injury time, with <strong>Nicolas Jackson (£6.8m) </strong>scoring his second and third goals of the game in the 94th and 97th minute.</p>
<p>The match was notable for VAR decisions and two red cards, which left Spurs with nine men.</p>
