Luton Town have achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history, although they have played top level football at Kenilworth Road in the past.
Luton were actually relegated from the first division in 1991/92, one year before the inaugural Premier League season.
The Hatters continued to plummet down to the National League (the fifth tier of English football) before climbing all the way back to the Premier League in the space of just nine years.
Last season, Luton finished third in the Championship under the management of Rob Edwards, eventually winning the play-off final against Coventry on penalties.

Carlton Morris (£5.5m) was Luton&#8217;s player of the season, finishing top for both goals (20) and assists (8) amongst his teammates, as well as picking up the most yellow cards (11).
Morris is a versatile threat, capable of scoring with both feet, while offering a considerable physical presence. He is a competent header of the ball t00, and boasts the pace to trouble Premier League defenders.

Strike partner Elijah Adebayo (£5.0m) also made a substantial contribution last season, with 10 goals and 5 assists.
Standing at 6 ft 4 ins, Adebayo is a tall and powerful striker with a decent turn of pace, but is arguably less clinical than Morris, having underperformed his <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl/">Expected Goals (xG)</a> tally considerably last season.

After Morris and Adebayo however, Luton&#8217;s third highest scorer was centre-back Tom Lockyer, with five.
This perhaps indicates an over-reliance on the two strikers for goals, although this isn&#8217;t particularly surprising given the system Luton play (read on for our predicted team).
Both strikers and Lockyer carry significant aerial threat too, which could be a productive avenue for points given Luton&#8217;s proficiency at set-pieces.
On that note, set-piece takers could be worth consideration here, and in Luton&#8217;s case there is one standout option.
Left wing-back Ryan Giles looks to have replaced Alfie Doughty not only as left wingback, but also as the player who takes the majority of corners and indirect free kicks for his side, which could make Giles a popular option for FPL managers.

Despite a third placed league finish, Luton were only the eighth best team in the league in terms of <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl/">Expected Goals (xG),</a> so chances weren&#8217;t in plentiful supply as you might have expected.
More than 25% of their goals last season came from set pieces, indicating a particular strength in this area.
Several Luton players carry the aerial threat to benefit from these set-pieces, and we take a closer look at those players later in this article.
Defensively, the Hatters ranked second best in league for <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl/">xGC (Expected Goals Conceded)</a> so there could be some bargain clean sheet potential to be had from the likes of Lockyer and Doughty, given Luton&#8217;s tendency to shut up shop when leading.

There is some uncertainty around which loan deals will be made permanent and who will be replaced, including goalkeeper Horvath, midfielder Nakamba, and right wing-back Drameh.
But as things stand, this is how the Hatters&#8217; starting 11 could shape up:

Luton have mainly lined up in a 3-5-2 formation under Rob Edwards, which may shift to a 5-3-2 when the Hatters are out of possession against Premier League opposition.
Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath was on loan from Nottingham Forest, and kept an impressive 19 clean sheets. But a permanent move has apparently been ruled out, with Blackburn’s Thomas Kaminski and Asmir Begovic rumoured targets.
Backup keeper Harry Isted meanwhile has moved to Charlton Athletic, so will not be a factor.
For now, one of James Shea or Matt Macey should start between the sticks.
Fleet-footed defenders Gabriel Osho and Amari&#8217;i Bell usually sit either side of the aerially dominant Tom Lockyer to form a back three, although new signing Mads Andersen will be pushing for a start at centre-back &#8211; perhaps ahead of Osho.
Right wing-back Cody Drameh has returned to Leeds following a loan, and interest from Burnley may complicate the Hatters’ efforts to make the move permanent.
Luton have now signed right-back Issa Kabore on loan from Manchester City however, so the Burkina Faso international should fill this void.
On the other side is the aforementioned Ryan Giles competing with Alfie Doughty, who both provide plenty of attacking threat from open play, in addition to set piece taking duties.
<a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/the-top-10-sky-sports-fantasy-football-bonus-scorers-in-2022-23/">Sky and Telegraph managers</a> should have their eyes on Marvelous Nakamba, who has now made a return to Luton.
The Zimbabwean defensive midfielder spent the season at Kenilworth Road on loan from Aston Villa, and he will be key for the Hatters in defensive midfield.
Nakamba topped the Championship for tackles per game last season. His 4.3 average was similar to the 4.2 managed by top tackler in the Premier League, Fulham&#8217;s Joao Palhinha.
Elsewhere in midfield, the talented Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu provides energy and creativity alongside new signing Tahith Chong, or one of Allan Campbell or Jordan Clark.
Up front, top scorer Carlton Morris is partnered by the physically imposing Elijah Adebayo.

<h2>What is Luton&#8217;s style of play under Edwards?</h2>
By Premier League standards, Luton employed a relatively direct style of football in the Championship last season, although they still played plenty of possession football in attacking areas.
Their height comes in useful at set-pieces, and Edwards’ side are known for their strength in this department, having scored 16 set piece goals last season.
Luton also utilise this height up front to get the team up the pitch, often going long rather than playing through the midfield.
In fact, last season, the Hatters were the third worst passing side in the league, with a completion rate of just 67%.
However, once up the pitch, they are happy to keep possession, and have plenty of midfielders capable of using this possession effectively in the final third.
Defensively, Luton are well organised, due in part to the nature of their formation, which allows for five defenders as well as a defensive midfielder.
They aren’t afraid to press high either, which creates difficulties for opposition defenders, and generates additional chances for Luton’s attackers from potential defensive errors.
