<h2>Manchester United stats and best players</h2>
<p>United came into the 2023/24 season after a third-placed finish - but they were unable to earn Champions League football again.</p>
<p>The Red Devils ended in eighth place and only managed to secure European football by winning the FA Cup, a victory which may have saved ten Hag's job.</p>
<p>Among the most alarming trends was their expected goals conceded (xGC) record was one of the worst in the league. Only Sheffield United conceded more shots on goal.</p>
<p>But United fans could point to injuries in defence - with dozens of combinations of centre-backs used - to mitigate this.</p>
<p>And despite significant errors in the Champions League, <strong>Andre Onana </strong>largely impressed in the league. He made the most saves in the league and helped keep United's goals conceded well under their xGC and joint-fifth best overall.</p>
<p>Ten Hag would have hoped to improve on United's goalscoring, with their 58 goals scored in 2022/23 around 14 less than their expected goals (xG) tally.</p>
<p>Their 2023/24 goals scored was closer to their xG, however they found the net just 57 times, with their xG dropping to 55.25.</p>
<p>There is therefore much to work on this season if United are to be a reliable source of fantasy options.</p>

<h3>2023/24 season best players</h3>
<p>Onana was the leading fantasy option among United defenders but at the other end of the pitch, <strong>Bruno Fernandes </strong>had the most goals and assists.</p>
<p>The Portuguese had five more goal involvements than <strong>Alejandro Garnacho</strong>, who became a regular first-team player.</p>
<p><strong>Rasmus Hojlund </strong>had a streaky debut season, failing to score a league goal until December, but he finished as the joint-top scorer alongside Fernandes on 10.</p>
<p>It was a disappointing season for <strong>Marcus Rashford</strong> meanwhile. He scored seven times - 10 fewer than his total in the previous campaign.</p>
