<h3>🥇Bruno Fernandes &#8211; 174 points</h3>
No United player had more goal involvements than Fernandes last season, who recorded eight goals and 12 assists.
The Portuguese midfielder created more chances (key passes) than anyone in the league and ranked fourth overall for big chances created (18).
Despite United&#8217;s troubles, he remained a decent FPL pick, with his 4.63 expected points per game the seventh best tally.

<h3>🥈Amad &#8211; 129 points</h3>
It was a breakout season for Amad, who memorably netted a hat-trick against Southampton.
He scored eight and assisted eight over 26 appearances, having missed a significant chunk of the closing stages of the season due to injury.
Amad was involved in 52% of United&#8217;s goals while he was on the pitch. Often used as a wing-back, this did not appear to affect his output.

<h3>🥉Andre Onana &#8211; 120 points</h3>
Onana was the seventh highest-scoring goalkeeper in the game and was responsible for nine of United&#8217;s 10 clean sheets.
But him being the third best points scorer in the United squad is perhaps indicative of their issues this season, with FPL returns often few and far between.
<h2>Manchester United FPL stats: Why did they finish so low?</h2>
Erik ten Hag was sacked in October with United 14th in the league.
Ruben Amorim took charge after a short interim role for Ruud van Nistelrooy but things did not improve &#8211; and in fact got worse.
The Red Devils won seven of their 27 league games under their new boss, with a switch to a back three system among the challenges for a struggling squad.
The <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> show numerous problems for Amorim to address.

A lack of goals is a major issue, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scoring seven league goals between them.
Only three teams scored fewer times than United. Their expected goals (xG) record suggests they under-performed based on the chances created, however it was still only the 12th best total.
And while there were signs of defensive improvements at times under Amorim, United ranked in the bottom half for both goals conceded and expected goals conceded (xGC) over the season as a whole.
That is a poor combination from an FPL perspective, leaving a major question mark over their suitability for investment in Gameweek 1.
It remains to be seen whether their lack of European football and a less congested schedule will help them improve their performances.

<h2>First six fixtures: Buy or avoid Manchester United picks in FPL?</h2>

It could barely be a worse start for Amorim&#8217;s men, who look to be an avoid for the opening few weeks.
A tough run could be a blessing for FPL managers, who may have been tempted by one or two of their new signings before the fixtures dropped.
Liverpool (A), Newcastle (A) are among the toughest trips, while Arsenal and Manchester City also visit Old Trafford.
United&#8217;s global fanbase will almost certainly see the likes of Matheus Cunha have high ownership regardless of the fixtures, however waiting a while looks the most sensible decision.

There&#8217;s been a summer of speculation over whether United would stick with Andre Onana but as things stand, no new goalkeeper has been signed.
Injury has prevented Onana featuring in pre-season to date, so Altay Bayindir would deputise if he was not ready, but the Cameroonian is reportedly back in training.
Ayden Heaven impressed in his debut season and is an enticing £4.0m in FPL but Lisandro Martinez has gone on tour as he builds up fitness following a long-term injury. The Argentine may not be ready for Gameweek 1 but will be a factor soon enough.
The signing of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will likely mean Fernandes drops to central midfield, with Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte partnering him if no other midfielders are signed.

A summary of Manchester United&#8217;s likely set-piece takers is below.
Mbeumo took spot-kicks at Brentford but is unlikely to wrestle them from Fernandes.
That being said, it would not be surprising to see Fernandes pass on the responsibility early in the season to help get Mbeumo off the mark. He let the departing Christian Eriksen take one against Aston Villa on the final day of last season.
