<h2>What happened to Mbeumo? What&#8217;s the latest on his fitness?</h2>
<p>It was a bright start for Mbeumo owners after he converted a 27th minute penalty to give the Bees the lead.</p>
<p>But 13 minutes later, the Cameroon international had been subbed off, having to be helped off the pitch by medical staff after appearing to twist his ankle in pursuit of <strong>Pascal Gross (£6.3m)</strong>.</p>

<p>Brentford manager Thomas Frank later <a href="https://www.brentfordfc.com/en/news/article/first-team-bryan-mbeumo-brentford-injury-update-fpl-thomas-frank">confirmed</a> the ankle problem and said:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;He twisted his ankle. We don&#8217;t know exactly bad it is; we will assess him tomorrow.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s another one on the list but that happens; another player may now need to step up.</p>
<p>&#8220;But let&#8217;s not get too carried away. Let&#8217;s wait and see how good or bad it is.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Speaking this afternoon, Frank told journalists Mbeumo would be out for a while. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;It is bad. He’ll have a scan later, but we don’t know the exact number of weeks he will be out.</p>
<p>&#8220;He will definitely not play Saturday and he&#8217;ll be out for weeks. We&#8217;ll know more in the next couple of days.&#8221;</p></blockquote>

<h2>Should Mbeumo be sold in FPL?</h2>
<p>Brentford&#8217;s next game comes on Saturday against Sheffield United away. On paper, this is an ideal fixture for an attacking player &#8211; unless Chris Wilder can dramatically improve the Blades&#8217; performances.</p>
<p>But a spell on the sidelines for Mbeumo makes an upcoming decision easier for FPL fans.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-blank-double-gameweek-guide">Blank Gameweek 18</a> looms, in which Brentford and Manchester City are without a fixture.</p>
<p>Many had been planning to hold both <strong>Erling Haaland (£14.0m) </strong>and Mbeumo, particularly given the potential for a <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-blank-double-gameweek-guide">Double Gameweek 2o</a> for the two sides.</p>
<p>There has been no official confirmation of the double yet though and without it, the case for selling Mbeumo is strengthened, even without an injury to consider.</p>
<p>Mbeumo is also set to feature in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which would see him miss games from Gameweek 21.</p>
<p>Injury doubt ahead of Gameweek 16 on top of this makes him a priority sell.</p>

<p>His early substitution has seen that trend reverse, however he is still some way of falling in price. This eases the time pressure of making an early transfer decision but things can change quickly.</p>

<h2>Potential Mbeumo replacements in FPL</h2>
<p>There are plenty of midfielders to consider to replace Mbeumo, at a range of price points.</p>
<p>And according to Hub AI, freeing up some cash and looking at a budget option could be the best strategy.</p>
<p>When looking at its predictions for the next three games &#8211; and filtering the options to £7.1m midfielders and below &#8211; <strong>Anthony Gordon (£6.0m) </strong>and <strong>Cole Palmer (£5.3m) </strong>come out on top.</p>
<p>Gordon has six goals and five assists for Newcastle, although he was flagged as an injury doubt for Gameweek 15 after taking a knock to his hip against Manchester United.</p>
<p>The Magpies play tonight, with Gordon expected to feature, and if he comes through the match against former club Everton unscathed, he will be a popular Mbeumo replacement.</p>

<p>Chelsea penalty taker Palmer scored his fifth goal of the season against Manchester United last night &#8211; this one coming from open play.</p>
<p>The Blues top the <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/the-best-fpl-wildcard-team-for-gameweek-16-according-to-ai">Hub&#8217;s fixture ticker</a> over the next five gameweeks, making a Chelsea player an attractive option.</p>
<p>Palmer comes in at £1.7m cheaper than <strong>Raheem Sterling (£7.0m)</strong>, who is also rated highly by Hub AI.</p>
<p>Other budget options <strong>Anthony Elanga (£5.0m) </strong>and <strong>Hwang Hee-chan (£5.7m) </strong>rank well for predicted points.</p>
<p>Elanga has three goals and three assists for Nottingham Forest, although his team&#8217;s 5-0 defeat to Fulham this week could put potential buyers off despite Forest ranking fourth for their upcoming games.</p>
<p>Hwang continues to impress for Wolves, with eights goals and two assists. His goals have come in defiance of an expected goals (xG) tally of 4.01, while he is also one yellow card away from a one-game ban and is expected to take part in the <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/how-to-tackle-the-fpl-christmas-schedule-afcon-and-asian-cup">Asian Cup</a>.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s his creative threat which catches the eye though, with four assists and the fourth best expected assists (xA) figure at this price range. He has completed the most key passes in this category (32), creating five big chances. The Hungarian is in 6.2% of teams.</p>
