<p>Mikkel Damsgaard has signed for Brentford in a reported £16.7m deal &#8211; but what are the Danish midfielder&#8217;s fantasy football prospects?</p>
<p>Damsgaard is the man who threatened to break England fans&#8217; hearts when he scored a cracking free-kick to put Denmark 1-0 in their Euro 2020 semi-final against the tournament hosts.</p>
<p>Just over a year later, the Dane has made his move to the Premier League from Serie A side Sampdoria.</p>
<p>We explore his fantasy credentials below.</p>

<h2>Mikkel Damsgaard &#8211; the history</h2>
<p>Damsgaard began his senior career in his home country for FC Nordsjælland.</p>
<p>According to Brentford&#8217;s website, he scored 13 goals in 93 appearances before moving to Serie A in the summer of 2020.</p>
<p>In his first season at the club, Damsgaard scored twice and assisted four across 35 games.</p>
<p>It was a promising start to his time in Italy &#8211; but the following season was disrupted by injury. He missed the majority of the campaign with a <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikkel-damsgaard/verletzungen/spieler/540941">thigh injury</a> and played just 576 minutes over 11 games.</p>
<p>The disruption had an impact on his <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a>, with Damsgaard failing to score or assist in 2021/22.</p>
<p>On the international scene, the midfielder had a strong Euro 2020 tournament, where he scored twice and added an assist.</p>
<p>He played six games in the World Cup qualifiers, scoring four and assisting two.</p>
<h2>Mikkel Damsgaard &#8211; FPL prospects</h2>
<p>Damsgaard has been priced up by FPL as a £5.5m midfielder.</p>
<p>That means he comes into the game at the same price point as Wolves&#8217; Pedro Neto &#8211; a popular player owned by 16.5% of managers.</p>

<p>With most new signings, a cautious approach is often wise as we see how they slot into their respective sides.</p>
<p>But in terms of fixtures, ideally the time to look at Brentford is about now. After hosting Manchester United in Gameweek 2, the Bees&#8217; fixture run ranks top of our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixture ticker</a> for Gameweek 3-9.</p>
<p>Neto&#8217;s Wolves meanwhile have a tricky run of Liverpool, Manchester City, West Ham and Chelsea from Gameweek 7 onwards. If Damsgaard starts well, he could be a hop-on from the Portuguese midfielder.</p>

<p>Brentford manager Thomas Frank described his new charge as a &#8216;classic Brentford signing&#8217; &#8211; a young player with &#8216;potential to develop further&#8217;.</p>
<p>And helpfully, Frank has given us a clue as to where his countryman could fit in.</p>
<p>He told <a href="https://www.brentfordfc.com/en/news/article/brentford-sign-mikkel-damsgaard">Brentford&#8217;s website</a>: &#8220;Mikkel is capable of creating and scoring goals and he has the ability to run with the ball past players.</p>
<p>&#8220;That is a great asset to have in the squad.</p>
<p>&#8220;He will create chances for us and is fantastic at getting out of tight areas with the ball, we will benefit from that.</p>
<p>“We think Mikkel can play as one of our ‘eights’ in a 4-3-3 system or as a ‘ten’. He can also play on the wing.</p>
<p>&#8220;We will use him in the way we think we can get the best out of his offensive abilities.</p>
<p>&#8220;Importantly, he is a player that will fit into our dressing room. He is a great character, he wants to work hard, he wants to work for the team, and he wants to develop.”</p>
<h2>Mikkel Damsgaard Sky, TFF and Dream Team prospects</h2>
<p>Goals and assists are important in all fantasy formats, but away from FPL other factors are also in play.</p>
<p>Telegraph awards midfielders points for tackles, while in Sky points are available for passing, shots and tackle tiers.</p>
<p>Sun Dream also uses WhoScored ratings and awards bonus points to the &#8216;star man&#8217; and those who have achieved a game rating of seven or above.</p>
<p>In the 2020/21 season &#8211; the campaign before his injury disrupted season &#8211; Damsgaard managed an average of 1.3 shots per 90 minutes and an average WhoScored rating of 6.60. The Dane averaged 2.1 tackles per 90.</p>
<p>These figures came across 35 appearances, 17 of which were off the bench. He played a total of 1,772 minutes across the season.</p>
