<p>In a bid to keep the ball in play more in Premier League matches, new rules are being implemented which will lead to more stoppage time.</p>
<p>Last season the ball was in play for under 55 minutes on average in the Premier League.</p>
<p>Referees will specifically account for set-piece preparations, substitutions, injuries and goal celebrations.</p>
<p>Time will be added on at the end of the game, likely leading to a significant increase in added time.</p>
<h2>How will injury time rules impact FPL?</h2>
<p>The new rules are going to result in longer games. At the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, 43 of the 63 matches reached 100 minutes.</p>
<p>During the tournament, England vs Iran was the longest game, with 24 minutes of added time across each half, with the game lasting 117 minutes.</p>
<p>Additional injury time in the Premier League is going to have a big impact on the game which is likely to benefit attacking players, especially those who regularly complete 90 minutes.</p>
<p>It may have the opposite impact on defenders and their clean-sheet potential, especially for those players who offer little going forward.</p>
