<h2>Brighton 2022/23 season expectations</h2>

Brighton recorded their best finish in club history last season, ending in ninth place, just five points off a first season in a European competition.
That was despite suffering runs of six losses on the bounce and 11 games without a win, as well as a joint-league high number of draws (15).
The Seagulls failed to take advantage at home, winning just five of their 19 home games.
That record was better than only Leeds, Norwich and Watford, so that will have to change if Brighton really want to make advances.
Graham Potter&#8217;s team only beat two of the teams that finished below them at home, which is an unbelievable record considering they recorded a top-half finish.
They recorded the third-lowest <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl">expected goals</a> (xG) record at home against the bottom 11 sides (1.27), and scored the second fewest goals per game (0.73).
Not only were they failing to create many big chances, but they were failing to covert the few they did.
Despite such a positive season, Brighton fans will be frustrated they failed to beat the likes of Norwich, Burnley, <a href="http://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/the-best-southampton-fpl-players-2022-23/">Southampton</a>, <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/the-best-leeds-united-fpl-players-2022-23">Leeds</a>, Everton and pre-takeover <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-tips-newcastle-team-preview-2022-23">Newcastle</a> at home.
Turning three of those draws into wins would have secured a first season in European football.
It&#8217;s clear to see Brighton need a focal point in attack and they will hope they have found that in new signing Deniz Undav.
The German striker racked up 25 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for affiliates Royale Union in the Belgian Pro League.
Potter will also be hoping to maintain the away form from last season. The Seagulls picked up the fifth-most points away from home and only lost on four occasions.
They were excellent away from home against the top sides, winning away at <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-tips-arsenal-team-preview">Arsenal </a>and <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-tips-team-preview-tottenham">Tottenham</a> and coming back with a point at <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-tips-liverpool-team-preview-2022-23">Liverpool</a> and <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-fantasy-football-tips-team-preview-chelsea">Chelsea</a>.
In total, Brighton conceded the sixth-lowest xG across the season, and finished mid-table for xG. However, only four teams scored fewer than their 1.11 per game.
For a team who completed the fifth-most passes in the final third and the sixth-most touches in the box, they need to be scoring more goals.
There&#8217;s not much to suggest these records will change either. Brighton have been relatively quiet in the transfer window and these issues won&#8217;t change without added quality in the final third.
I think another top-half finish will be the aim for Brighton this season and you&#8217;d expect them finish in and around it.
<h2>Brighton 2022/23 expected line-up</h2>

Robert Sanchez will start every game possible.
Potter opted for a back three for the majority of last season and has done in <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-pre-season-guide-2022-23">pre-season</a>.
Lewis Dunk will start virtually every game and will mainly be partnered by Joel Veltman and Adam Webster.
Marc Cucurella looks like he&#8217;s on the verge of joining Manchester City, so I&#8217;d expect Brighton to dip into the market for both a left-sided centre half and a left wing-back.
Should Cucurella leave, Potter would be left with only four senior centre backs, as well as only Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma as natural left wing-backs.
Neither of those are defensively capable of playing in a back four, so it&#8217;s almost certain that will be an area of interest.
Tariq Lamptey will be the first choice at right wing-back, despite failing to make a huge impression last season.
Moises Caicedo should become a regular in centre-midfield after impressing at the back-end of last season.
He will be partnered by Alexis Mac Allister, who is set to be an important player this season.
Leandro Trossard will be an ever-present as a shadow striker.
He&#8217;ll likely play next to Pascal Gross most games, although the German could face rotation with the likes of Adam Lallana, Jeremy Sarmiento and one of the strikers when Potter opts for two up top.
Danny Welbeck will probably be the first-choice number nine, as I expect Undav to be eased in to help adjust to Premier League. That being said, I think they&#8217;ll be quite a few games when they play together.
Neal Maupay looks like he could be on his way out, which would leave teenager Julio Encisco next in the firing line.
<h2>Best Brighton forward for FPL</h2>
<h4>Danny Welbeck (£6.5m)</h4>
The former England international looks most likely to start the season as first-choice number nine.
His underlying <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> looks great and if he nails down the number-nine spot, he could have a very good season.
Despite only ending the campaign with six goals and four assists, he started the last nine games of the season, and scored three and assisted three in the final five games.
Over the season, he registered an xG of 0.50, 0.91 big chances and 2.07 shots in the box per 90 minutes but only managed 0.37 goals per 90 minutes.
His xG and big chances record was the fourth best among forwards, so he looks a very promising option this season.

<h2>Best Brighton midfielder for FPL</h2>
<h4>Leandro Trossard (£6.5m)</h4>
Trossard ended the season with his best goal tally so far in a Premier League season, with eight.
Only Maupay had a better goal record per game than Trossard&#8217;s 0.24 and the Belgian&#8217;s xG of 0.25 per game was only beaten by Welbeck.
He ended up with the highest expected goal involvement (xGI) tally per game in the squad, as well as the highest expected assist (xA) count (0.18). If his teammates were more clinical, he would&#8217;ve beat his actual assist total of 0.12 per game.
Compared to midfielders in the league, Trossard was in the top 20 for xGI per game and his goal or assist contribution of 33% in games he played was the 11th highest.
Trossard is a decent option at his price and a nice differential given Brighton&#8217;s favourable early <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixtures</a>.
<h2>Best Brighton defender for FPL</h2>
<h4>Lewis Dunk (£4.5m)</h4>
Not only is the captain Brighton&#8217;s most-nailed defender, but he&#8217;s also the one that offers the most goal threat.
Dunk&#8217;s xG of 0.07 per game was the joint most out of the teams defenders, and he should&#8217;ve scored more than just the single goal last season.
Only Webster had more than his 0.07 big chances per game and no one had a higher expected points tally than his 3.57 per game.
Dunk is also a bit of a bonus-point magnet. Only seven defenders picked up more baseline bonus points per game, with six of them playing for top-six sides.
He&#8217;s one of the best £4.5m defenders to pick from, given Brighton&#8217;s solid defensive record, his tendency to pick up bonus points with a reasonable chance of picking up a goal involvement.
<h2>Top under-the-radar Brighton players:</h2>
<h4>Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m)</h4>
Mac Allister had his breakout season in the league last season and will be a key player for the Seagulls this season.
Capable of playing anywhere in Potter&#8217;s midfield, Mac Allister is capable of racking up a few goals this season.
Only Welbeck had more shots per 90 minutes than the Argentine&#8217;s 2.55, although the majority of his shots came outside the box, leading to just the fourth-highest xG per 90 in the squad (0.24).
His creativity side is pretty minimal and I can&#8217;t see him picking up too many assists.
Only one midfielder priced at £5.5m or below had a higher xG per 90 minutes, so for his price he provides value.
Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m)
The former Chelsea wing-back has showed so much promise as fantasy asset during his time at the club.
Unfortunately, he has failed to become a reliable pick. He&#8217;s prone to injuries and rotation and has been rather unlucky to not pick up more goal involvements.
His record of 0.17 expected assists per 90 minutes last season was by far the best out of the Brighton defenders but he only actually made 0.12 assists per 90 minutes.
His xGI tally of 0.24 per 90 minutes was the ninth-highest tally out of defenders, so the potential is there.
If Lamptey can nail down his spot in the side and stay fit, he can provide excellent value.
However, at the moment he does look like a bit of a wait and see.

<h2>Brighton players to avoid:</h2>
Maupay may not play regularly enough if he stays at the club.
Undav will need time to adjust to the Premier League and will probably spend more time on the bench than on the pitch at the start of the season.
