<h2>Leeds 2022/23 season expectations</h2>

Expectations for Leeds were high after an impressive ninth-placed finish in their first season back in the Premier League.
But Marcelo Bielsa lost his job after a run of heavy defeats.
Leeds were always prone to a drubbing but conceding three or more on ten occasions after just 27 leagues games was too often, even for them.
The Whites had already conceded 60 by the time Jesse Marsch arrived on Matchday 27, five more than Norwich and 13 more than any other side.
To put that tally into context, the worst sum of goals conceded per game in a season was Derby&#8217;s record of 2.34 in 2007/08.
Leeds were averaging only just a better record, with 2.31.
Illan Meslier didn&#8217;t help the cause. The French goalkeeper ended the season with the worst post-shot <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl">expected goals</a> (xG) minus goals allowed record out of goalkeepers in the league, conceding 0.21 more goals than he should have done every 90 minutes alone.
But he was far from the only issue. Leeds once again were dismal at defending set-pieces, conceding a joint-league of 19 goals.
Injuries played havoc, with the likes Kalvin Phillips, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch all facing length spells on the sideline.
Junior Firpo failed to make the expected impact, looking like a liability at times at left-back.
Leeds were also struggling at the other side of the pitch for the first time since their promotion.
Before Marsch&#8217;s arrival, Leeds couldn&#8217;t turn their over-average xG of 1.34 into actual goals, with only seven teams scoring fewer than their tally of 1.12 goals per game,
Bielsa&#8217;s choice not to sign a back-up to Patrick Bamford turned out to be a poor decision, with plenty of chances going a waste.
Only three players scored five or more goals across the season.
<h4>Steadying the ship</h4>
Marsch came in to the steady the ship and he did just that, winning three and drawing two of his first seven games in charge.
They picked up as many points in those seven games as Bielsa&#8217;s final 14 games and kept the same number of clean sheets (two) that they had managed in the last 19 games of Bielsa&#8217;s management.
That followed three consecutive losses against Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal, meaning survival was no longer in their own hands.
They picked up four points in the final two games, as they rescued themselves on the final day, overtaking Burnley.
In the short time Marsch was at the club, he managed to improve the sides defensive frailties.
They went from the leagues worst defence to just the ninth worst based on expected numbers, and conceded less than five teams.
That record still needs work, however, especially considering most sides had already secured survival by that point of the season and were effectively &#8216;on the beach&#8217;.
<h4>Squad rebuild</h4>
Phillips and Raphinha have inevitably departed and a rebuild is underway. Marsch has opted for young players from abroad, with all five of the senior signings lacking Premier League experience.
Added to that, all five signings are aged 25 or younger, and only two have played in the traditional top five European leagues. They will need settle in quickly to avoid another relegation scrap.
Tyler Adams and Marc Roca both look like excellent signings. Both have Champions League experience, with the former having some of his under Marsch.
Both are equally capable both defensively and in possession. Roca completed more progressive passes and progressive carries per 90 minutes than 87 and 70 percent of midfielders in the top five European league, whilst Adams recorded more progressive carries than 75% of midfielders.
Both completed pressures in at least the 80th percentile, as did Marsch&#8217;s former players Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen, who join the club having completed more pressures per 90 minutes than 99 and 90 percent of players in the respective positions.
Luis Sinisterra is a very exciting signing and will have huge shoes to fill as the Raphinha replacement.
Marsch has a clear vision. His philosophy of bringing in young, foreign players that have worked under him looks risky due to the demands of the Premier League, but by the same token can definitely pay off.
The players he has at his disposal are all built to play in his high intense, counter pressing system so the key ingredients are there.
Bamford&#8217;s return will be massive, and keeping him fit will be imperative.
I think Leeds have too much quality to go down but a top-half finish looks very unlikely at this stage.
<h2>Leeds 2022/23 expected line-up</h2>
                             Meslier
Kristensen &#8211; Koch &#8211; Llorente &#8211; Strujik
                         Adams &#8211; Roca
         Sinisterra &#8211; Aaronson &#8211; Harrison 
                              Bamford
&nbsp;
Meslier will go into the season as the stand-out number one.
The back four pretty much picks itself, with Kristensen, Koch, Diego Llorente and Pascal Strujik set to start there.
New signings Adams and Roca will pivot the midfield, with young American Aaronson ready to play a key role as the number ten.
Sinisterra comes in as the Raphinha replacement and will start the majority of games when fit. Jack Harrison is the stand-out option on the left side.
Patrick Bamford is pretty much guaranteed to start in Leeds&#8217; strongest line-up.
<h2>Best Leeds forward for FPL</h2>
<h4>Patrick Bamford (£7.5m)</h4>
Bamford faced an injury-ridden season, picking up an ankle injury after just five games.
missing nine league games with that, he returned to score a last-gasp equaliser in his first game back, only to damage his hamstring in the celebrations.
He then faced another long-spell on the sidelines, missing another 12 games. After just three appearances back in the side, Bamford was struck by yet another injury, keeping him out of the final eight games of the season.
Given he played only around 500 minutes, you can&#8217;t really look too much into last season&#8217;s form.
However, in 2020/21, Bamford had a very impressive season, racking up 17 goals and 11 assists. Out of forwards, only Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy hit more goal involvements.
Bamford&#8217;s xG record of 0.50 per game was the fourth best among forwards, as was his expected goal involvement (xGI) of 0.66, and no forward had more shots in the box per game (2.50).
The loss of Raphinha is a big one.  That season, only four midfielders made more key passes per game (2.13), and only three had a higher expected assists (xA) per game (0.3).
New signing Sinisterra is more of a goalscorer than a creator, as is Harrison.
Marsch isn&#8217;t as attacking as Bielsa, whose gung-ho approach definitely provided Bamford with an inflated tally of chances.
But due to Marsch&#8217;s emphasis on vertical play, the through balls being played through to him will certainly play to his strengths.
I can&#8217;t see Bamford recreating his tallies from 2020/21 but he&#8217;s still Leeds&#8217; stand-out attacking option and can be one of the stand-out mid-priced forwards.

<h2>Best Leeds midfielder for FPL</h2>
<h4>Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m)</h4>
The Colombian winger was key to Feyenoord&#8217;s run to the Conference League final last season.
He scored 11 and made seven in 18 appearances including qualifying and was one of Eredivisie&#8217;s stand-out performers, hitting 12 goals and seven assists in 29 starts.
He will add the flair and direct running that Raphinha did and his 23 goals and 14 assists from last season provide good reading.
I think he&#8217;s a player with plenty of potential to be a fantastic Fantasy asset and is undoubtedly one to watch out for.
<h2>Best Leeds defender for FPL</h2>
<h4>Rasmus Kristensen (£5.0m)</h4>
Given Marsch&#8217;s tendency to deploy attacking full-backs, Kristensen looks like a good attacking option
In his final two season at RB Salzburg, he managed an impressive 14 goals and 17 assists in 88 appearances in all competitions.
That works out at 0.35 goal involvements per game, which is an exceptional record for a defender.
He further showed in attacking intent in the Champions League last season. No full-back who played 500 minutes or more had more shots on goal and 88% of those shots came inside the box.
He&#8217;s also a threat from set-pieces at 6ft 2ins, which is unusual for a full-back.
I can see Leeds improving defensively this season and there&#8217;s few budget defenders that offer as much goal threat as him. I think he&#8217;s one to pay attention to.
<h2>Top under-the-radar Leeds players:</h2>
<h4>Jack Harrison (£5.5m)</h4>
Harrison equalled his goal tally of eight from 2020/21, scoring some key goals which secured Leeds&#8217; survival.
No player scored more than Harrison during Marsch&#8217;s reign, scoring four in just less than 1,000 minutes.
Since Marsch&#8217;s arrival, only Raphinha recorded a higher xGI than Harrion&#8217;s 0.31 per game in the squad.
Harrison was in the top 20 for goals per game (0.33) out of midfielders under Marsch, although he outperformed his xG of 0.17 quite signficantly.
The left-winger played 90 minutes in all but one of the final nine league games, so he&#8217;s guaranteed minutes under Marsch.
I think he can improve on last season with a focal point in Bamford to play around, and is generously priced at £6.0m.

<h2>Leeds FPL players to avoid:</h2>
Aaronson doesn&#8217;t strike me as someone who can be a solid fantasy option.
The American midfielder averaged just 1.13 shots in the Champions League last season; a record better than just 4% of attacking midfielders and wingers in the European top five leagues.
He also only managed four goals and five assists in the Austrian Bundesliga last season, which wasn&#8217;t the best record considering his side scored on 77 occasions. As well as that, the Premier League is a massive step up.
Roca and Adams won&#8217;t provide anywhere near enough goal threat, whilst in defence I don&#8217;t see the upside of Struijk, Llorente and Koch.
<h2>Leeds set-piece takers:</h2>

As at the end of the 21/22 season, the Leeds set-piece takers were as follows:
Penalties: Bamford, Klich, Rodrigo 
Direct free kicks: Forshaw 
Corners and indirect free kicks: Dallas, Harrison 
Aerial threats: Bamford, Cooper, Rodrigo, Strujik
