<h2>Salah's history: FPL record breaker</h2>
<p>Before considering this season's form, it's worth underlining why Salah is such a highly owned FPL player.</p>
<p>He has a long history of success, bursting onto the scene with a record 303 points in his first season at Liverpool in 2017/18.</p>
<p>The attacker smashed this total in 2024/25, beating it with 10 gameweeks to spare and ending on 344 points.</p>
<p>He scored 29 goals and assisted 18, tying the Premier League record for goal involvements.</p>
<p>Such remarkable numbers are perhaps unlikely to be repeated this time - the data suggested he over-performed by about 84 points.</p>
<p>But even if he had scored and assisted as expected, he would still have been the top scorer by 24 points.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, he has consistently been among the best-performing FPL picks season after season.</p>

<h2>How has Salah started the season?</h2>
<p>Big expectations lead to big price tags, with Salah starting at £14.5m.</p>
<p>The priciest player in the game is only the joint 17th highest scorer so far, on 25 points.</p>
<p>He has scored twice and assisted one but he has been branded 'lucky' by some, with all three goal involvements coming in injury time:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Gameweek 1 v Bournemouth: </strong>Goal in 94th minute</li>
<li><strong>Gameweek 2 v Newcastle: </strong>Assist in 100th minute</li>
<li><strong>Gameweek 4 v Burnley: </strong>Penalty in 95th minute</li>
</ul>
<p>Part of Salah's appeal is that he is usually a 90 minute man, meaning the opportunity for him to score late is almost always there.</p>
<p>With the wide man's highlights reel looking limited otherwise though, many FPL managers are beginning to question when their luck will run out.</p>

<h2>What do the stats say about Salah's slow start?</h2>
<p>Liverpool's talisman has managed an expected goals (xG) total of 1.1 and expected assists (xA) of 0.5 - the 24th and joint-32nd best tallies.</p>
<p>Even more concerningly, most of his xG came from the Burnley penalty. A spot-kick is worth 0.79 xG.</p>
<p>His non-penalty xG of 0.31 ranks joint 93rd.</p>
<p>Crucially though, four games is a very small set of data. One high-xG performance will rocket him up the standings.</p>
