<p>Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche has been appointed Everton manager, succeeding Frank Lampard &#8211; here, we take a look at the challenge that awaits him and what FPL managers can expect of his style of play.</p>

<h2>Everton&#8217;s season so far</h2>
<p>Dyche takes charge at Goodison Park with his new club firmly in a relegation battle.</p>
<p>The Toffees are 19th but a few good results could quickly change things, as the gap to 17th placed Wolves is just two points.</p>
<p>But there is undoubtedly much room for improvement, as evidenced by the Hub&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta">Opta stats</a> tool.</p>
<p>Everton have conceded 28 goals from an expected goals conceded (xGC) tally of 34.8. Their xGC ranks fourth-worst in the league, although their actual goals conceded puts them middle of the pack in 10th.</p>
<p>They have kept four clean sheets, the second-lowest in the league.</p>
<p>More than half of the chances (53%) they have conceded have come from the centre, while the 68 headed opportunities they have afforded other teams is the highest.</p>
<p>Plenty for Dyche to work on defensively then &#8211; but the attacking side of Everton&#8217;s game also needs work.</p>
<p>Their 15 goals scored is only ahead of Wolves and their expected goals (xG) of 22.39 is the Premier League&#8217;s fifth-lowest figure.</p>

<h2>What style of play will Sean Dyche implement at Everton</h2>
<p>Dyche&#8217;s decade at Burnley has perhaps contributed to a stereotypical view of his management, leading to assumptions by some that he&#8217;ll be quick to introduce a 4-4-2 at Everton.</p>
<p>Although he capable of giving a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3YY7PY-IH0&amp;t=1030s">detailed analysis on the formation</a>, it is clear Dyche does not view himself as a one-dimensional tactician &#8211; and there&#8217;s plenty to demonstrate this.</p>
<p>Helpfully, a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9npHwymUu0c">High Performance Podcast interview</a> with him was published on the day he took the Everton job.</p>
<p>The title? &#8216;The truth about my management style&#8217;.</p>
<p>Dyche talks about how he adapts to players&#8217; qualities. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“If I’ve got to get the best out of you, I’ve got to come out with a format that gives you the best chance to be the best you. That’s got to be logical.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The best example is Kieran Trippier. Kieran Trippier can land the football anywhere on the football pitch. He’s got that much talent. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;You want me to only allow him to play 10 yards? I’m doing him a disservice and taking away from his career saying I only want you to pass 10 yards to there.&#8221;</span></p></blockquote>
<p>The formation Everton will play under Dyche is therefore not set in stone &#8211; 4-4-2 was not their usual approach under Lampard &#8211; but the values their new manager will insist on are clear.</p>
<p>In an <a href="https://www.evertonfc.com/news/3040463/new-manager-sets-out-plans-for-everton">interview on the club&#8217;s website</a>, he said:</p>
<blockquote><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I certainly want it to look like a team that will give their lot. I think that’s a start point.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I want us to play with a style but a style that’s effective. There’s a lot of talk about the way football is played, including myself, but the fact is it’s got to be effective whichever way you look at it. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We want to be effective, we want to play a mixed game we want to ask questions of the opposition and we want to add into that hard work with the quality &#8211; and there is some quality here no two ways about it. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We’ve got to give them the freedom to shine, while giving them the organisation to win it.”</span></p></blockquote>

<h2>Which players could benefit under Sean Dyche at Everton?</h2>
<p>Judging by Dyche&#8217;s comments, he will give everyone a chance to prove themselves &#8211; and a strong work ethic will seemingly go a long way towards making a good impression.</p>
<p>Toffees who have played under Dyche include <strong>James <span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Tarkowski (£4.2m)</strong>, <strong>Dwight McNeil (£5.1m)</strong> and<strong> Michael Keane (£4.2m)</strong>.</span></strong></p>
<p>Keane has barely featured this season and he will be among those hoping a change of manager results in a revival.</p>
<p>Getting the best out of the injury disrupted <strong>Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) </strong>will likely be key to Everton&#8217;s success as they seek to improve their goalscoring and beat the drop.</p>
<p>Dyche will be without <strong>Anthony Gordon (£5.2m) </strong>though, after the midfielder sealed a move to Newcastle. This could be a bonus for McNeil, who has been in and out of the side since joining from Burnley.</p>
<p>It could also provide the boss with some funds to invest in the squad.</p>

<h2>When will Dyche first take charge of Everton?</h2>
<p>FPL managers will not have long to wait before some of the questions over Everton&#8217;s style of play under Dyche are answered.</p>
<p>Everton host league leaders Arsenal at 12:30 on Saturday (February 4) in the second game of <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-blank-double-gameweek-guide">Double Gameweek 22</a>.</p>
