<p>Sean Dyche has been confirmed as Nottingham Forest&#8217;s new manager after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou on Saturday (October 18).</p>
<p>The former Everton and Burnley boss will take charge of the Tricky Trees&#8217; Europa League tie on Thursday before their Gameweek 9 clash with Bournemouth (A).</p>

<h2>Why was Postecoglou sacked?</h2>
<p>The ex-Spurs boss was winless in eight games in all competitions.</p>
<p>Forest lost four and drew one in the league, starting with a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in Gameweek 4 and a 0-3 loss at home to Chelsea in Gameweek 8.</p>
<p>A 39 word club statement &#8211; coincidentally one for every day of Postecoglou&#8217;s short spell &#8211; noted that there had been &#8216;a series of disappointing results and performances&#8217;.</p>
<p>Forest are 18th in the table, eight places below where they were when Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed.</p>

<h2>How bad were Forest under Postecoglou?</h2>
<p>In Postecoglou&#8217;s defence, his time in charge was so short that we can&#8217;t read too much into the small amount of data.</p>
<p>But it largely backs up the form.</p>
<p>Forest conceded 10 league goals &#8211; the most alongside West Ham &#8211; and their expected goals conceded (xGC) of 8.8 was the third worst.</p>
<p>They also scored the fewest goals, although their 5.56 expected goals (xG) indicated an under-performance on their one scored.</p>

<h2>Does Dyche suit Forest&#8217;s squad?</h2>
<p>One of the strangest parts of Postecoglou&#8217;s hiring was the significant difference in style from Espirito Santo.</p>
<p>Media reports suggested Forest&#8217;s ownership wanted to develop their style more in the mould of the Greek-born Australian, however many including Postecoglou himself stressed this could take time.</p>
<p>Dyche&#8217;s style is much closer to Espirito Santo, which should help many of the players who shone last season.</p>
<p>Burnley and Everton both had a reputation for being defensively solid under him, with the Toffees ranked in the top three for clean sheets while he was managing them.</p>

<h2>Was Forest&#8217;s defence as good as it looked last season?</h2>
<p>Defenders are likely to be the main focus for FPL managers given Forest&#8217;s recent history.</p>
<p>The Tricky Trees kept 13 clean sheets last season, the joint second most.</p>
<p>Their 46 goals conceded was a slight over-performance in comparison to their 50.5 xGC but still a respectable performance.</p>
<p>As highlighted in our <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/nottingham-forest-fpl-team-preview-25-26">pre-season preview</a> however, their <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> fell off during the second half of the season.</p>
<p>Whether they would repeat the highs of 2024/25 was therefore a key question going into the new campaign.</p>
<p>One of the things Dyche will have to improve upon to increase Forest&#8217;s clean sheet prospects is how they deal with set-pieces. They conceded 11 times from set plays under Postecoglou.</p>
<p>No one has allowed more shots from set-pieces (12) in the league this season, while their 26 big chances conceded overall is the joint worst.</p>

<h2>Are Forest players a good option in FPL again?</h2>
<p>While it&#8217;s reasonable to expect an upturn in fortunes for Forest under a more tactically suitable manager, it&#8217;s sensible to keep an eye on them before acting.</p>
<p>The club has been through a turbulent period &#8211; three managers will have been in charge in just nine gameweeks.</p>
<p>It may take time for Dyche to have an impact and for the players to settle as a result.</p>
<p>European football is an added challenge on last season too, which could affect their league form.</p>
<p>Even Dyche himself has limited experience of managing in Europe and the likely rotation that comes with such regular football.</p>

<p>There are plenty of options in defence this season thanks to the introduction of <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-defcon-points-watch">defensive contribution</a> points.</p>
<p>Forest defenders would have profited heavily from this system in 2024/25 but returns have been limited in the opening gameweeks.</p>
<p><strong>James Tarkowski </strong>was a defensive contribution magnet under Dyche at Everton, so <strong>Murillo </strong>and <strong>Nikola Milenkovic </strong>could benefit once again.</p>
<p>On the attacking front, Dyche has previously worked with forward <strong>Chris Wood</strong>, who was seen as less of a natural fit for Postecoglou. He was a crucial figure in their success last season.</p>
<p>But most FPL managers are unlikely to rush to Forest picks for the time being. Keeping an eye on how they do is certainly worthwhile though.</p>
<h2>The fixtures: Is now a good time to buy Forest players in FPL?</h2>
<p>Forest rank eighth for overall difficulty on the Hub&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">customisable fixture ticke</a>r over the next six gameweeks.</p>
<p>The picture improves slightly when filtering the upcoming games for defensive difficulty, ranking sixth best.</p>
<p>Bournemouth (A) in Gameweek 9 is not a good entry point, while Liverpool (A) follows the pick of the immediate games of Leeds (H) in Gameweek 11.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s therefore plenty of time to see how Forest do before strongly considering buying them in FPL.</p>
