<h3>Goalkeeper</h3>
Liverpool love an opening day upset and after beating champions Chelsea on the opening weekend last season, they were back again causing an upset. 
This time it was against title challengers Arsenal with a 1-0 win. Rachael Laws kept the Gunners at bay, saving 100% (three) of the shots attempted on goal. 
Helping see out Liverpool’s victory earned her five clean sheet points and the title of top goalkeeper for Round 1. 
Manchester City Khiara Keating also kept a clean sheet, earning nine points in the process, and was preferred over popular pick Ellie Roebuck for the starting position. 
City dominated defensively, meaning Keating could be a good pickup going forward. City do however face off against reigning champions Chelsea in Round 2, with the Blues leading the league in goals scored last season. 
One pick to keep your eye on is West Ham’s Mackenzie Arnold, who conceded twice in the opening week but saved save of the eight attempts on goal. 
Denying Chloe Kelly from the penalty spot also brought a total of nine points for the first fixture.

<h3>Defence</h3>
City ruled the backline this week with Laia Aleixandri earning the biggest points total of the week. 
Chipping in with two assists from the back and a clean sheet, Aleixandri was highly influential with or without the ball in City’s victory. 
With only 5% ownership in the opening round, the defender was definitely worth the selection and is bound to find a spot in fantasy sides for the upcoming fixtures.
Niamh Charles was equally as influential for Chelsea, also earning six assist points, but was unable to add a clean sheet to her tally to cap off the excellent performance. 
Tottenham Hotspur face newly promoted Bristol City in Round 2 who were beaten 4-2 on the opening day. 
While the Robins adjust to life in the WSL, a Spurs defensive selection could provide a great points return this upcoming gameweek.
<h3>Midfield</h3>
This week’s midfield boasts an attacking and defensive mix, with the likes of Katie Zelem impacting the game at both ends. 
There’s no doubt the seven tackles completed by the midfielder contributed to the five defensive points earned this week. 
Her passing contributions and offensive progressions proved vital in a reformed Manchester United side’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa. 
On the blue side of Manchester, Jill Roord helped secure her side’s win with a goal to cement her spot in the team of the week midfield. 
Both Manchester teams face title rivals in Chelsea and Arsenal in Round 2, offering early difficult fixtures for the top teams. 
Leicester currently sit top of the table with their midfielders impressing, especially Aimee Palmer. With the Foxes hosting Everton in Round 2, they could also be potential selection options outside of the premium players.

<h3>Attack</h3>
If you were expecting the usual suspects to appear as this week’s top attacking earners, you’d be surprised to see the likes of Leicester’s Jutta Rantala and Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland featuring.
Brighton and England prospect Katie Robinson also chipped in with an assist. Robinson had 10 goal contributions last season and the 21 year old is certainly becoming a pick to keep an eye on.
Rantala was also effective in picking up attacking points and could haul regular points looking at the Foxes’ attacking prowess.
Premium pick Lauren James had an impressive summer and managed to hit the ground running in Round 1. James remains a constant attacking threat for the Blues and with Sam Kerr still sidelined, James may be a great Chelsea alternative to add to your frontline.
Round 2 kicks off with a blockbuster clash between Manchester United and Arsenal, with the latter looking to respond strongly after opening-week defeat.
