<p>Many FPL managers are using their <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/what-is-the-fpl-bench-boost-and-when-to-use-it/">Bench Boost chip</a> in Double Gameweek 29. Holly Shand looks at whether this is the right decision.</p>

<p>FPL Gameweek 29 presents a good opportunity to play a chip. Traditionally, we consider Double Gameweeks as the time to use our chips, to maximise the opportunity of earning big fantasy points.</p>
<p>We have some popular assets with a great <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">pair of fixtures</a> for Double Gameweek 29, including players from Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs. There are also favourable single Gameweek fixtures for Manchester City, Chelsea, Wolves, Southampton and Leeds United.</p>

<h3><strong>Is Double Gameweek 29 the Best Time to use the Bench Boost Chip?</strong></h3>
<p>While <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/the-best-fpl-chip-strategy-gameweeks-25-30/">chip strategy</a> has become more team-dependant than ever this season, Double Gameweek 29 could be a logical time to play your Bench Boost.</p>
<p>This chip is theoretically most effective when played shortly after a wildcard, so if you have played a wildcard recently, or don&#8217;t have it left, then the Bench Boost should be under consideration this week.</p>
<p>Double Gameweek 29 has three additional fixtures, including some of the form teams in the Premier League right now. While there could be bigger doubles towards the end of the season, if you&#8217;ve arrived at this point with a bench worthy of boosting, I would look to deploy it now.</p>
<p>Look to have 15 players who regularly see minutes, and don&#8217;t be afraid to take a points hit or two to strengthen the bench, especially if it involves bring in a player who also has a fixture in the subsequent Blank Gameweek 30.</p>

<p>There are clear advantages for getting the chip out of the way, including being more flexible with your budget for the season run in by not having to carry through a full squad of 15 playing players. It also allows for a more expensive first substitute than you&#8217;d ordinarily opt for.</p>
<p>While it&#8217;s difficult to say for sure when the right time is to play a Bench Boost chip without having a clear picture of all <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-blank-double-gameweek-guide-2021-22/">upcoming blanks and doubles</a>, we can predict Double Gameweeks in 33 and 36, when outstanding fixtures will be rearranged.</p>
<p>Bear in mind that a big Double Gameweek towards the end of the season isn&#8217;t always as attractive as it looks: we often see rotation due to some sides concentrating on other competitions. This period sometimes throws up surprise results, with some sides on the beach, while others fighting to avoid relegation.</p>

<h3>Who are the Best Bench Boost Options in FPL Gameweek 29?</h3>
<p>If your squad does needs some work to prepare for a Bench Boost, here are some players I would transfer in this week in order to strengthen your bench.</p>
<p><strong>Martin Dubravka (£4.4m)</strong> has a pair of fixtures against Chelsea and Everton, coming in at a kind price to hold on your bench for the rest of the season. At the time of writing, he has two clean sheets from his last four games. Newcastle teammate <strong>Fabian Schar (£4.3m)</strong> has attacking returns in consecutive games.</p>
<p><strong>Matt Doherty (£4.7m)</strong> is another outstanding option: he has been in sensational form of late, with one goal and three assists from his last two starts. Spurs have kept consecutive clean sheets too, and Doherty looks to have made the right wing-back slot his own. Spurs also have a fixture in Blank Gameweek 30.</p>
<p>In midfield, Arsenal duo <strong>Martin Odegaard (£5.5m)</strong> and <strong>Gabriel Martinelli (£5.3m)</strong> impressed last time out against Watford, both finding the back of the net. A double this week, and a fixture in the blank, make both of them promising transfers in.</p>
