Bruno Fernandes rewarded his patient backers with a long-awaited haul in FPL Gameweek 11 &#8211; but what did we learn from the weekend&#8217;s games?

<h2>Salah a trusty captain as Haaland loses more owners</h2>
Erling Haaland was the most transferred out player ahead of Gameweek 11, with more than 600,000 managers losing patience in the Manchester City forward.
This had an inevitable impact on his captaincy backing, with just 27% of the top 250,000 putting their trust in the Norwegian.

Nearly half of the game&#8217;s best managers chose Mohamed Salah instead. They were rewarded with a 14 point haul &#8211; the second highest score of the week.
Haaland didn&#8217;t come away empty handed. He scored City&#8217;s goal in their 2-1 loss at Brighton.
But a late booking after a tussle with Jan Paul van Hecke saw him lose his bonus and end on just five points.
For the second time in three gameweeks, Haaland recorded the best expected goals (xG) tally in the league (1.38).
Although much of this would have been accounted for by his goal &#8211; which came from a rebound off his own shot &#8211; he still had the more shots than any other player (seven).
He also led the way for expected points (7.87), with the likes of Salah over-performing.
This is unlikely to help his cause however, with City losing their fourth game in a row in all competitions.
Haaland is the most transferred out player since the Gameweek 11 deadline, with another 160,000 managers tiring of him.

<h2>Set-pieces prove pivotal in Liverpool win</h2>
Liverpool headed into the international break five points clear of City after a 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
It was a game which corners &#8211; and quality of finishing &#8211; heavily influenced the final score, with Salah the star.
The Egyptian was unfortunate not to have scored the Reds&#8217; first himself. He was closing in on goal after a breakaway from a Villa corner, only to be hauled down by Leon Bailey.
The Villa midfielder was not penalised, while Darwin Nunez took the ball under control, rounded Emiliano Martinez and finished from a tight angle.
The Uruguayan failed to score from another corner break, which would have given Salah another assist.
Salah&#8217;s goal came as Villa were caught on the break again, with Diego Carlos&#8217;s attempt to clear the ball heading into Salah&#8217;s path, who ran half the pitch to slot home.
His cool finishing was in sharp contrast to teammate Nunez&#8217;s, who missed two other excellent chances.
While problems arose from Villa&#8217;s own corners, the visiting side also threatened with them.
Caoimhin Kelleher earned his clean sheet points with a fine saves from Amadou Onana and Carlos from Lucas Digne deliveries.

<h2>Pedro rejoins long list of budget forward options</h2>
Joao Pedro returned from an extended injury setback to help Brighton to a comeback victory over City.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 23rd minute but second-half goals from the Brazilian and Matt O&#8217;Riley secured three points for Fabian Hurzeler&#8217;s Seagulls.
Pedro provided the assist for O&#8217;Riley &#8211; who was also back from injury &#8211; giving him 11 points from his 25 minute cameo.
At £5.4m, Pedro&#8217;s popularity will surely soar in the coming weeks.
Brighton have a strong run of fixtures, including Southampton (H), Leicester (A) and Crystal Palace (H), while his price is lower than some of his budget rivals.
Matheus Cunha, who scored and assisted against Southampton, comes in at £6.7m, while two-goal Yoane Wissa is £6.1m.
And they are not the only competition for Pedro in this price range.
Chris Wood, who blanked against Newcastle, has eight goals this season, and Bournemouth&#8217;s Evanilson netted his fourth against Brentford.
Pedro&#8217;s teammate Danny Welbeck has six goals himself and is also priced under £6.0m.
FPL managers are not short of choice then, which helps to explain why the expensive Haaland continues to lose fans.

<h2>Fernandes on form &#8211; but is he essential?</h2>
Bruno Fernandes frustrated early owners with some promising statistics but a lack of actual returns.
The Manchester United midfielder registered just two assists in his first nine league games, despite an xG of 2.42 and expected goal involvements (xGI) of 4.1.
Erik ten Hag was sacked and since Ruud van Nistelrooy took interim charge, Fernandes&#8217;s output has been transformed.
He has two goals and two assists, over-performing his xGI of 1.8.
No player has more FPL points (27) or set up more chances &#8211; 11 key passes and two big chances created.

His upturn in fortunes has seen some question whether he is essential.
The immediate fortunes look good, with Ipswich (A) and Everton (H) in the next two gameweeks.
A &#8216;new manager bounce&#8217; could also be experienced as Ruben Amorim takes charge.
But that also creates uncertainty, particularly should Amorim stick to his three-at-the-back philosophy amid a schedule that leaves little time for lengthy training.
The medium-term fixtures look less strong too, with Arsenal and City away in Gameweek 14 and 16.
Fernandes is a highly influential player for his team who is on penalties. The reasons for buying him remain as strong as they were in Gameweek 1.
United&#8217;s fixtures however mean he is not a must own &#8211; and with Leicester in Gameweek 11 being a third of their best run for a while, the boat has arguably been missed unless FPL managers want a short-term transfer target.

<h2>Spurs continue to be unreliable</h2>
Spurs had the pick of the fixtures, with a seemingly prime home game against Ipswich.
But the visitors upset the odds, winning 1-2 through goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap.
Ange Postecoglou&#8217;s team arrived into Gameweek 11 with the best xG in the league, giving FPL managers confidence in their attackers.
They racked up 1.7 xG from 17 efforts on goal &#8211; but the visitors bettered them with a more efficient 1.8 from eight shots.
Spurs&#8217; goal came from a Rodrigo Bentancur header via a Pedro Porro corner but the home side were unable to get on level terms, giving the Tractor Boys their first win.
Dominic Solanke was the second most popular transfer in but did not score, with a second-half goal ruled out for handball.
He was the third most captained player among the top 250,000 &#8211; and with mixed results this season, trust is unlikely to be placed in their assets for captaincy purposes too often.

<h2>Injury worries mount ahead of international break</h2>
Injury niggles often present themselves ahead of international breaks &#8211; with some proving more serious than others.
Concerns were raised after Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced off in the first half against Villa with a hamstring injury.
Manager Arne Slot said he did not know how serious the problem was but indicated he was unlikely to feature for England.
The Athletic have since reported that those close to the full-back are hopeful the swift substitution prevented serious damage.
Bukayo Saka was a late casualty against Chelsea on Sunday, limping off the pitch, and will be another high-profile headache for FPL managers come Gameweek 12. Cole Palmer meanwhile recovered from his knock to play a full part in the match.
Jamie Vardy was left out of Leicester&#8217;s squad amid struggling with a back injury, which came as disappointing news for around 10% of managers.
Dwight McNeil was another no-show, affecting 9.1% of FPL fans.
