Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 12 Review

In this weekly article, I’ll be analysing all the key stats from the weekend’s fixtures. I’ll also identify trends both from fixture runs as well as the teams to target as the season progresses.

It’s all about identifying those Sky Fantasy players, and sides, who are going to perform on a consistent basis.

I’ll start by showing which teams earned the most points in Gameweek 12 overall.

A base points per team will be 22 points (two points per starting XI player).

From a total league perspective, the base score is 470 points (440 points from starting XI players and 10 Man of the Match performances).

A total of 967 points were scored over the weekend. This is just above the average so far this season.

The standout teams were Manchester United and Chelsea who won 3-0 away from home. Next up more was Crystal Palace followed by West Ham and Arsenal.

Points Conceded YTD

Team Points Conceded – Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 13

Norwich still remain as the team most likely to give up a large amount of points by quite some distance. The Canaries are now followed by Watford and Newcastle.

Over the previous four Gameweeks, those three teams have given up more points than the rest of the division.

The teams offering up the least points over the previous four weeks are Liverpool (84), Chelsea (51) and West Ham (134).

Both Man Utd (237) and Brighton (242) are doing well over the season. However, they have seemingly dipped over the last four weeks.

Conversely, Crystal Palace (153) and Arsenal (168) have improved over the same period

The graph shows us which teams scored the most bonus points over the weekend and where they came from.

The data above provides us a quick view of who hit the bonus tiers in the Gameweek.

We will also keep running totals so we can identify which players are those bonus magnets we want in our team.

Meanwhile, the table below will show us (specifically for passes and tackles) which players are just short of the level required.

Player Bonus Points – Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 13

Five players hit two different tiers this Gameweek. Declan Rice and Ruben Dias both got 6 bonus points this weekend (ignoring MOTM).

Dias hit Tier 2 in both passing and tackling and Rice achieved Tier 1 in Shots, Passing and Tackling. In fact, he earned the fabled full house of a goal, assist, bonus points for all avenues as well as the Man of the Match award.

Conor Gallagher, Reece James and Emerson Royal all scored five bonus points.

Bonus Points by Player Season So Far

This chart is beginning to show us who are the dependable picks throughout the season.

As the campaign evolves, we will probably cut the data sample down to the 6-8 previous Gameweeks. This will help us identify who is in form when it comes to bonuses.

As we can see, Declan Rice now tops the bonus points after his clean sweep at the weekend.

If we look at the last four weeks, Declan Rice tops the points charts with 14 closely followed by Pierre Emile Hojberg on 12.

Other notable names are Virgil Van Dijk who has gained all of his 11 bonus points for passing.

Tim Krul is next with 10 points but I’m unlikely to go there with Norwich’s tendencies to concede lots of goals.

They are followed by a few players on nine bonus points including the previously mentioned Marc Guehi, Conor Gallagher and Adam Lallana.

Bonus Tiers vs Opponents

Tackling Bonus Points – Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 13

The table above shows the top 20 players for the season in terms of tackles and passes. I have adapted it to show averages per game played to give us a more accurate view.

In terms of tackles, we know this is the least reliable of the bonus tiers but a few players are relatively consistent.

None are more so than the aforementioned Juraj Kucka (£6.5m). Although Watford have a tricky run of fixtures coming up, they have a single game day vs Brentford on the 10th December.

This is followed by Burnley, Crystal Palace and Wolves, so he could be one to consider if you need a captain.

Another who may come into your thinking is Emerson Royal (£7.9m) who tops the average tackles per game this season.

However, it will be interesting to see how Antonio Conte changes the team as a whole so the Brazilian could be one to look out for as discussed in Dan’s latest article.

Passing Bonus Points – Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 13

From a passing bonus perspective, the consistent players from previous seasons are starting to come to the fore.

It comes as no surprise that 13 players in the top 20 are from Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea.

Of the other seven, three aren’t assured to start (Webster, Amartey and Ayling) for various reasons.

Meanwhile, Caglar Soyoncu worries me every time I watch him and he can be up and down for the number of passes he makes.

Lewis Dunk and Marc Guehi are great options going forward and I want to get at least one of them into my team.

Pierre Emile Hojberg is the interesting one as he averages above the tier requirement, and is also good for tackles a lot of the time.

Yet with the new manager, I am intrigued to see if his positioning will change at all, or if he’ll even keep his spot.

Best Value Picks (points per game per million)

The chart above will become more useful over the course of the season. Nevertheless, it provides us a method of comparing players at different price points.

It takes points scored divided by the games these assets have played. This calculates the value they offer in the game. I have discounted players who have only played one game.

Yet it is already starting to show the more consistent players we can perhaps target going forward. It also flags potential assets for any tricky single day games later in the season.

Goalkeepers

It still looks to be between Edouard Mendy and Aaron Ramsdale, with personal preference for me being the Chelsea stopper.

However, Mendy will be going to the African Cup of Nations in January so it’s something to bear in mind. Single day requirements are leading me towards the Arsenal shot-stopper for the Christmas period.

Defenders

As ever, the defensive options offer the best value overall. This is particularly the case with Chelsea’s options who occupy seven of the top 10 spaces.

Midfielders

Conor Gallagher put another massive statement out there with his display at the Etihad. The Chelsea loanee looks to be a season keeper at his price in a position not filled with options.

Phil Foden has rocketed to the top of the list after his last few performances.

Of the next 11 games where we know kick off times, in eight of them we will get to see the City lineup which could lead us to captain their assets more than usual.

Forwards

Mohamed Salah continues to do Mohammed Salah things. In terms of value, no one outside the top four forwards gets into the top 10 of any other position.

Therefore, it would appear premium forwards, or Antonio, is the way to go.

Tier Bonus Allowed by Team

The two tables show how many players have hit at least Tier 1 against each opponent.

From a passing perspective, Norwich, Newcastle and Watford have given up passing bonus in seven of their 10 fixtures so far, with Arsenal and Everton doing the same in six games.

Although the passing table above does show us patterns, you have to dig a little deeper into the stats.

For example, both Arsenal and Chelsea have conceded passing bonus to 11 players in just two games. Yet both teams were down to ten men for half a game which skews the statistics.

Ultimately, the teams to target seem to be Norwich, Newcastle, Everton and Watford.

Annoyingly, Brentford play three of these teams in a row next. Nevertheless, they have only had one player hit passing bonus all year.

Interestingly, across the two different bonuses it is Aston Villa, Burnley, Liverpool and Man City who give up the fewest (12).

Team Updates – Sky Fantasy Football Tips

Team Review GW12

A slightly above average week for me again with captaincy returns from Mohamed Salah (10 points) and Raphinha (28).

Jose Sa also managed a Tier 1 save bonus on Monday night.

Both of my Chelsea defenders hit Tier 2 passing for a healthy 20 points. Despite conceding twice, Ruben Dias earned Tier 2 tackles and passing for seven points.

Disappointments arose from midfield duo James Ward Prowse and Youri Tielemans but both remain solid holds.

Michail Antonio was unlucky not to get a return in a comprehensive West Ham victory. However, with their fixtures stiffening up in the short term, the Jamaican could make way,

Liam Cooper is the weaklink of the team. Although I would like to get a game from him before jumping off, he could be offloaded at any point.

In total, 98 points for the Gameweek and a current rank of 2082 is a rise of 1300 places from last week.

I’m still happy enough at this stage with a healthy transfer count. The B team also rose from last week with 76 points, sitting in at 9k.

Sky Fantasy Football Transfer Plans

International break after these games would usually result in caution. Yet there are plenty of options which are whirling around my head and I need to be careful with future moves in mind.

In December, I want the premium front line of Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.

To enable this, I am going to have to sell Ruben Dias, James Ward Prowse and a Chelsea defender.

At this point, if you don’t already use Ian Parrin’s spreadsheet, it is an essential tool which helps you plan out future moves and ensure you have the appropriate budget.

Players I have on my radar for the foreseeable future in no particular order are: Marc Guehi, Aaron Ramsdale, Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster, Joao Cancelo, Declan Rice and Ivan Toney.

Two transfers 100% planned in are Antonio to Kane on the 21st November and Sa to Ramsdale on the 2nd December.

The biggest annoyance is the Brighton defence. I definitely want a piece of it but at the moment the only route is Lewis Dunk.

If Adam Webster was assured of starts, the £1.2m saving would go a long way to sorting out a lot of my future transfers.

Gameweek 13 Fixtures

Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 13 Fixture Analysis

Captaincy this week will be James Ward Prowse on Friday. I have held him this long for this game in particular so hopefully he returns before leaving my team.

Saturday is a real brain teaser. I currently own Ruben Dias, Conor Gallagher, Jose Sa, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

Right now, I would favour the Crystal Palace midfielder who will start and likely hit some sort of bonus.

But I think with Ward Prowse leaving my team, it could be his replacement who gets the armband.

The three candidates are Lewis Dunk vs a Newcastle team who are giving up the most passing bonuses, Ivan Toney vs Norwich (enough said) or Joao Cancelo who is playing really well this year.

Sunday will be nice and simple as I stick the armband on Salah.
