Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 6 Review

In this weekly article, I’ll be analysing all the key stats from the weekend’s fixtures. I’ll also identify trends both from fixture runs as well as the teams to target as the season progresses.

It’s about identifying those Sky Fantasy players and sides who are going to perform on a consistent basis either through form or fixtures.

I’ll start by showing which teams received the most points in Gameweek 6 overall.

A base points per team will be 22 points (two points per starting XI player) and from a total league perspective the base score is 470 points (440 points from starting XI players and 10 Man of the Match performances).

A total of 958 points were scored over the weekend. This seems to be the average currently in the season but it will be continually monitored throughout the campaign.

The standout teams were Chelsea (again), Aston Villa and Liverpool. Brentford and Watford entered the top five this week. We can now start to see which teams are giving up the most points over the season in the table below.

Norwich have given up the most points by quite some distance. The Canaries are followed by Arsenal with Newcastle and Wolves closely behind them. These are the teams to target for potential transfers.

Unsurprisingly, it is the perceived top four who are the teams who concede the fewest points. The next two clubs are Brighton and Brentford.

They are two teams who may be ordinarily considered easier games to target. In actual fact, they should be respected more in terms of the ability to keep their opponents’ points scoring ability relatively low.

The graph shows us which teams scored the most bonus points over the weekend and where they came from.

The above data gives us a quick view of who hit the bonus tiers in the Gameweek. We will also keep running totals so we can see which players are those bonus magnets we want in our team (hopefully at reasonable prices).

Meanwhile, the table below will show us (specifically for passes and tackles) which players were just short of the level required.

As evidenced, three players hit Tier 1 passing and tackling over the weekend. Joao Cancelo and James Milner both returned, whereas Fred also hit both (and actually did really well last season for bonus when playing).

However, it was Liam Cooper (£6.9m) who not only hit both bonuses (was also one pass off Tier 2 passing as well) but he also sits on top of the bonus points so far this season.

There are some regular picks towards the top of the chart with Ruben Dias (£10.6m) and Mohamed Salah (£11.9m).

Yet there are others who could be worthy of consideration, especially considering single game days in the future.

These names include Ruben Neves (£8m) and Dwight McNeil (£7.7m) who have both scored 10 and 9 points respectively.

Tackles and Passes so Far

The table above shows the top 20 players for the season so far in terms of tackles and passes.

A lot of familiar names are on the list, with notable mentions to Juraj Kucka who has hit Tier 1 tackles twice, Tier 2 once and missed out by one tackle in the other game he has played this year.

Several players have hit at least two tackles in every game. Allan, Oriol Romeu, Tomas Soucek, Wilfred Ndidi. There are also three Brentford assets in Christian Norgaard, Vitaly Janelt and Sergi Canos.

From a passing perspective, there are no surprises with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton all doing well.

One that catches the eye is Ruben Neves (£8m) at Wolves. He is in and around the passing tier 1 bonus. The Portuguese international would also cover the single game day versus Everton. They also have a relatively easy run of fixtures coming up.

With five games played, the best value players are slowly starting to take shape. It is difficult to make too many assumptions but Rapheal Varane (£9.2m) has hit Tier 1 passing once. The former Real Madrid centreback also reached Tier 2 another time and only a few passes off in the third game he has played.

Usually, you see centrebacks passing to each other a lot which racks up the bonus points. However, in the West Ham game it was notable that Varane (85) had more than double the amount of passes than Harry Maguire who only racked up 42.

The Frenchman is one to keep an eye on later in the season when Manchester United have an amazing run of fixtures.

The chart above will become more useful over the course of the season. Nevertheless, it provides us a method of comparing players at different price points.

It purely takes points scored divided by the games these assets have played. This calculates the value they offer in the game.

At this early stage, some players have had one good game and it sways their numbers (Christian Pulisic being one example).

Yet it is already starting to show the more consistent players we can perhaps target going forward. It also flags potential assets for any tricky single day games later in the season.

David Raya (£6.3m), Connor Gallagher (£7.3m) and Marcos Alonso (£7.9m) are three cheap enablers who look to be a good source of points right now. They may continue to offer great value if their place in the team remains assured.

We can start to also notice which teams are the ones to target when it comes to bonus tiers.

Bonus Tiers vs Opponents

The two tables show how many players have hit at least Tier 1 against each opponent. Only Manchester City haven’t let their opponents yield a passing bonus yet.

Certain factors sway the stats significantly. For example, early red cards in Chelsea’s heavyweight clash versus Liverpool in Gameweek 3.

The Blues allowed six players to hit passing tiers. Other than that, only one player achieved a passing tier and three players reached the tackles tier.

The teams who currently seem to yield bonuses are Watford, Newcastle and Crystal Palace. Against the Eagles, it is primarily tackles bonus that other teams hit rather than passing. In fact, only one player has hit passing bonus since the opening day defeat versus Chelsea.

Interestingly, before the International Break and Overhaul, 71 players hit passing tier in the opening three fixtures. Meanwhile, in the proceeding two Gameweeks, only 22 players have done so.

It will be interesting to monitor if this trend continues and whether we should place less emphasis on bonus. Perhaps we should focus more on traditional Fantasy Football points scoring with clean sheets and goals.

Team Updates – Sky Fantasy Football Tips

Team Review GW6

An average week for me was saved by the captains once again! Raphinha, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Salah scored 72 points with the rest of my squad chipping in 31 points.

Blanks across the midfield aren’t too worrying on the whole. James Ward Prowse should tick along and Connor Gallagher was transferred in for Adam Webster with the forthcoming single game in mind. Nothing was really expected from a trip to Anfield.

Sergi Canos is a little more of a potential issue. He hit two tackles after 10 minutes vs Wolves but did nothing after that. I am hoping that the next batch of TV fixtures will be out this week to see if he is required further down the line.

Defensively, all my players returned either a clean sheet or achieved bonus tiers. Andreas Christensen is no worry at the moment, rotation was always a risk for a Chelsea defender.

Although Antonio Rudiger would have been a more fruitful option, I am happy with my choice and will probably double up on the Blues defence in the near future.

I substituted Dominic Calvert Lewin out for Romelu Lukaku who scored only two points. However, this move was made for future fixtures so I’m happy enough with the Belgian for the next few games.

At the moment, my team isn’t where I would like it to be but there aren’t any burning issues. With 38 transfers still in hand, I am prepared to give the squad another week.

In total, 103 points for the Gameweek and a current rank of 2176 is a solid enough position to be in. The B team is also doing reasonably well, sitting in at 10k.

Sky Fantasy Football Transfer Plans

I had pencilled in a transfer of either Ronaldo or Salah to Harry Kane this week. Yet the England captain, and Tottenham, look woeful right now, so it could be a wait and see until they start delivering.

Looing further ahead, there is also the two Arsenal single game days where the plan was to bring in and draft out an Arsenal asset.

With Gallagher now covering the first game, I am tempted to see how Aston Villa perform over the next couple of matches and bring in one of their assets to cover the second fixture.

So it is likely that I will make no transfers this week.

GW7 Fixtures

Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 7 Fixture Analysis

Captaincy this week is by no means easy. On the Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo will undoubtedly be the most popular pick because you can see the line ups.

However, it feels like a day to perhaps take a risk on other teams with Mohammed Salah being high up on the list.

If you still have Michail Antonio, he could be another to take advantage of against a depleted Leeds United defense. We shall see on Saturday morning how risky I feel!

For Sunday, my options are James Ward Prowse and Jose Sa if I don’t bring anyone in. Therefore, I may stick with the dependable Ward Prowse.

On the Monday, the captain will be whoever you own which in my case is Conor Gallagher.
