Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 7 Review

In this weekly article, I’ll be analysing all the key stats from the weekend’s fixtures. I’ll also identify trends both from fixture runs as well as the teams to target as the season progresses.

It’s about identifying those Sky Fantasy players and sides who are going to perform on a consistent basis either through form or fixtures.

I’ll start by showing which teams received the most points in Gameweek 7 overall.

A base points per team will be 22 points (two points per starting XI player) and from a total league perspective the base score is 470 points (440 points from starting XI players and 10 Man of the Match performances).

A total of 886 points were scored over the weekend. This is the lowest number of points in a gameweek so far, mainly driven by only four teams keeping a clean sheet compared to seven last gameweek.

The standout teams were Man City, Aston Villa, Everton and Wolves, the four teams who all kept a clean sheet. The best of those who conceded were Arsenal and Liverpool who each scored three goals. We can now start to see which teams are giving up the most points over the season in the table below.

Norwich have given up the most points by quite some distance. The Canaries are still followed by Arsenal and Newcastle with Tottenham now closely behind them.

One thing to remember with Arsenal specifically is that, even though they are second for points conceded over the season to date, they are actually bottom for the previous three weeks, allowing 85 points against them. Liverpool (86) are next best followed by Man City and Brighton (100).

Unsurprisingly, it is the perceived “top four” who concede the fewest points. But again, looking at the previous three weeks, Manchester Utd do drop down to 11th and Tottenham are bottom (perhaps less of a shock!).

The graph shows us which teams scored the most bonus points over the weekend and where they came from.

The above data gives us a quick view of who hit the bonus tiers in the gameweek. We will also keep running totals so we can see which players are those bonus magnets we want in our team (hopefully at reasonable prices).

Meanwhile, the table below will show us (specifically for passes and tackles) which players were just short of the level required.

As evidenced, two players hit Tier 1 passing and tackling over the weekend. Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Trent Alexander Arnold both returned, whereas Fred again hit tackles Tier 1. If only we knew he was going to play (although Ole seems to love him!).

Bonus Points by Player Season So Far (from FF Stuff)

There are some regular picks towards the top of the chart with Ruben Dias (£10.6m) and Mohamed Salah (£11.9m).

The £7-8m midfielder bracket is absolutely littered with those towards the top of the bonus point chart, so tying that in with some attacking output could make them great holds and enablers for the majority of the season on recent form. I’m primarily looking at Ismaila Sarr (£7.8m) and Declan Rice (£7.4m).

Tackles and Passes so Far

The table above shows the top 20 players for the season so far in terms of tackles and passes.

A lot of familiar names are on the list, with notable mentions to Wilfred Ndidi who has played all six games so far, hit Tier 1 tackles once and missed out on it four of the five other games (and even in that game made two).

Others with similar stories are Christian Norgaard, who has again hit Tier 1 once, missed out by one tackle three times and made two in the remaining games and Pierre Emile Hojberg who has hit at least two tackles in each game.

From a passing perspective, there are no surprises with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton all doing well.

One that catches the eye is Marc Guehi (£7.2m) at Crystal Palace. He is averaging just over 52 passes a game and has hit Tier 1 passing twice, and just missed out on another two occasions.

Interestingly, Hojberg is also in and around the passing bonus most weeks, hitting Tier 1 once, Tier 2 once and just short in another game. He is really someone who can score points from multiple angles.

Also worthy of note is Caglar Soyuncu (£8.2m), who has hit 50 passes in each game. Though he hasn’t hit a bonus tier since Gameweek 2.

Best Value Picks (points per game per million)

The chart above will become more useful over the course of the season. Nevertheless, it provides us a method of comparing players at different price points.

It purely takes points scored divided by the games these assets have played. This calculates the value they offer in the game.

At this early stage, some players have had one good game and it sways their numbers (Christian Pulisic being one example).

Yet it is already starting to show the more consistent players we can perhaps target going forward. It also flags potential assets for any tricky single day games later in the season.

Ethan Pinnock (£6.1m), Connor Gallagher (£7.3m) and Marcos Alonso (£7.9m) are three cheap enablers who look to be a good source of points right now. They may continue to offer great value if their place in the team remains assured.

As mentioned earlier, the midfielders in the £7m-£8m bracket are offering great value. Ismaila Sarr and Conor Gallagher top the value currently but any of the others below them are bound to offer alternatives for captaincies, or when they have a decent run of fixtures.

We can start to also notice which teams are the ones to target when it comes to bonus tiers.

Bonus Tiers vs Opponents

The two tables show how many players have hit at least Tier 1 against each opponent. Manchester City are still to let any opponent hit a passing tier yet.

Certain factors sway the stats significantly. For example, early red cards in Chelsea’s heavyweight clash versus Liverpool in Gameweek 3.

The Blues allowed six players to hit passing tiers. Five Manchester City players were allowed to hit passing against them too. It’s yet to be seen if it is the way Tuchel sets them up against stronger opposition or just an anomaly given the red card at Anfield.

We mentioned last weekend the three teams who yield most bonus tiers and two (Newcastle and Watford) faced each other in last gameweek. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace maintained their record as the team who yield the most tackling bonus points, with three Brighton players achieving it. Veltman and Cucarella actually topped the tackle stats for any player this gameweek.

It will be interesting to monitor if this trend continues and whether we should place less emphasis on bonus. Perhaps we should focus more on traditional Fantasy Football points scoring with clean sheets and goals.

Team Updates – Sky Fantasy Football Tips

Team Review GW7

An above average week for me with a few players leading the way and a few currently stinking out the team. But on the whole a lot of experienced Sky managers struggled, so I will take the points and go again next week.

Saturday started with me swerving the Cristiano Ronaldo captaincy in the early game which proved a shrewd move. With Chelsea and Manchester City up against each other, I wasn’t expecting too much from my three players, but the ever-dependable Ruben Dias chipped in with a clean sheet and tier 1 passing bonus.

My Mohamed Salah captaincy proved a good differential on the Saturday, with Raphinha also chipping in with a goal. Liam Cooper still looks good for passing bonus but it’s telling that Ilan Meslier is second for bonus points so far this season. He’s a worry so long as their injury issues continue.

Sergi Canos continues to be an issue. He is really difficult to get off if we want an extra game out of him. 17th October looks a good opportunity. They play on the Saturday and then you can move to someone who plays on the Sunday, or even an Arsenal asset for their two single game days.

Sunday was a choice between James Ward-Prowse or Jose Sa and I stand by my pick of the Southampton midfielder. He hit Tier 1 passing and I’m glad I swerved the temptation of bringing in Harry Kane. He looked completely out of sorts: if he does show some sign of life then he is an easy transfer in with him playing most Sundays.

Monday was lovely, seeing my sole player, Conor Gallagher, starting in the first instance but then chipping in with an assist and also man of the match. I think he will be a great pick in the coming weeks and the nature of his game should win plenty of man of the matches.

In total, 80 points for the Gameweek and a current rank of 1373 is a solid enough position to be in and slowly moving in the right direction. The B team is also doing reasonably well, sitting in at 10k.

Sky Fantasy Football Transfer Plans

With the international break coming around after this gameweek, I’ll look to be holding off any transfers, even with some players stinking the team out. The only one that does tempt me is Cristiano Ronaldo to Michail Antonio on Sunday, but I can make the same move the weekend after the break. Then I’ll have more information and insight into international injuries.

As mentioned above, Sergi Canos has to go. I’m looking at Emile Smith-Rowe as a replacement after the break, as well as the Ronaldo to Antonio switch too. But we will cross that bridge nearer the time.

Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 8 Fixture Analysis

Captaincy this week is just the two days. On the Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo will undoubtedly be the most popular pick because you can see the line ups, but again I am tempted to go against him. Romelu Lukaku looks a better option: obviously you don’t see if he starts, but he has played every minute of the league so far so I cannot see why he wouldn’t.

Sunday is probably an avoid in the big game of the day at Anfield, however my options other than that game are Conor Gallagher or – you guessed it – Sergi Canos! So it could be that I side with Mohamed Salah to maintain his fine scoring streak.
