The Premier League is about to return from the international break, meaning under-performing teams and players get a restart, and FPL managers have some decisions to make.
Squawka took a look at a few relatively popular FPL players with the lowest points-per-million averages, asking: should you stick or twist? 
To keep the list relevant, we excluded anyone who isn&#8217;t selected by at least 8% of FPL teams. To account for how injuries and reduced playing time impact players&#8217; FPL output, we also excluded those who have played less than half of all match minutes from 2023/24 so far.

Alexander-Arnold isn&#8217;t having an £8.0m calibre season. He has averaged three FPL points a game &#8211; the 48th-best total among defenders &#8211; most of which is based on the 3-0 defeat of Aston Villa, in which the Liverpool right-back recorded his sole Premier League assist of 2023/24.
He has averaged 0.21 big chances created per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, the 27th best total for a defender. For expected assists (xA) per 90, Alexander-Arnold is 15th (0.13). 
Then there&#8217;s the fact Liverpool&#8217;s defence is performing at a mediocre level. They have conceded the 10th most shots on target and shots from inside the box and have just one clean sheet.
That being said, Liverpool have one of the best fixture runs, ranking second best between Gameweek 9 and 14, so owners of Alexander-Arnold would be wise to hold on for now in anticipation of an upturn in fortunes.

A midfielder playing in an advanced position? FPL managers love players like Marcus Rashford. 
But he has just two attacking returns in eight games, scoring against Arsenal and recording two assists against Nottingham Forest. No player owned by at least 10% of FPL managers has a lower points-per-million average.
Rashford’s goal against Italy on Tuesday may produce a confidence boost. But his underlying metrics such as expected goals (xG) &#8211; while above average &#8211; don’t justify a cost of nearly £9.0m.
Manchester United&#8217;s away fixture against Sheffield United could be the last chance for Rashford to make his case for staying in FPL teams.

Diaz is vulnerable to rotation but generally favoured by Jurgen Klopp, who has given him more minutes than any Liverpool forward bar Mohamed Salah (£12.6m). 
But Diaz hasn&#8217;t produced an attacking return in FPL since Gameweek 2. He has no assists in the Premier League in 2023/24 and two goals &#8211; although in fairness, an incorrect VAR call cost him one during Liverpool&#8217;s defeat to Spurs. 
Luiz has created one big chance all season and, widening the data sample by going back to the start of 2023, has an xA rate of 0.14 per 90 minutes. 
In this same timeframe, his xG per 90 (0.31) is bettered by all other Liverpool forwards.
Again, Liverpool&#8217;s fixtures may make Diaz a hold for owners &#8211; but those who don&#8217;t have him in their teams may wish to look elsewhere for better value.

More than 50 FPL defenders average more points per match than Dias. Only five FPL defenders are more expensive.
However, Dias is still an ever-present in one of the Premier League&#8217;s best defences, with Pep Guardiola having given him more top-flight minutes than any other Manchester City defender this season (630).
Overall in 2023/24, City have faced the joint-fewest shots on target (17). They have conceded six goals overall (also joint-fewest) and half of those came in Rodri&#8217;s (£5.6m) absence over the last two games. 
Still, there are slightly cheaper options for City defenders in Nathan Ake (£5.1m) and Josko Gvardiol (£5.0m). 
City have a tough run of fixtures coming up, which may see owners hopping off their defenders for now.

Fernandes has created the <a href="https://www.squawka.com/en/news/best-premier-league-playmakers-most-big-chances-created/">most big chances in 2023</a> across Europe’s big seven leagues (27) but only has seven assists to his name.
This is exactly why it might be wise to keep him. His low points are not due to his performances, rather that of his teammates. 
In 2023/24, only Salah, James Maddison (£8.1m) and Kieran Trippier (£6.9m) have created more big chances in the Premier League. Fernandes even has the highest xA in the league (3.1).

Haaland has only produced 3.9 points per million this season. This puts him in the bottom three for points-per-million average of all players owned by 10%+ of FPL managers. 
He’s had two subdued games in back-to-back defeats against Wolves and Arsenal, amassing a combined xG of 0.06.

On the other hand, he’s still Erling Halaand. He has the highest xG in the league overall by some distance (as well as the most goals, of course) and is, according to <a href="https://www.squawka.com/en/fantasy-football/fpl-ai-ratings-best-players-gameweek-9-premier-league-tips/">Hub AI</a>, your best option for the captaincy most weeks.
