            <p>Liverpool's defeat of Manchester City in the Community Shield brought valuable information for FPL managers ahead of the new season, in the most informative pre-season friendly.</p>
<p>Only Manchester City's new signing <strong>Erling Haaland (£11.5m)</strong> and defender <strong>Joao Cancelo (£7.0m)</strong> have significant ownership right now heading into Gameweek 1.</p>
<p>The game itself brought more headaches than solutions.</p>

<h2>1. Erling Haaland (£11.5m)</h2>
<p>The Community Shield gave us our first glimpse of Haaland in a Manchester City shirt against Premier League opponents.</p>
<p>Pep Guardiola gave his star striker 90 minutes, which certainly gives fantasy managers plenty of encouragement.</p>
<p>Haaland's output was high: he had two big chances in the game, with an xG of 1.6, while also creating one big chance.</p>
<p>Those in favour of Haaland will frame this as the perfect underlying numbers to show a big season ahead, while those against will say that he's going to flop due to poor finishing.</p>
<p>FPL managers are certainly reacting to his performances. He sits at his lowest ownership of pre-season, in under 55% of fantasy squads.</p>
<p>However, there's no denying he is a world-class striker who is just getting started, having had three big chances - including hitting the crossbar!</p>
<h2>2. Mo Salah (£13.0m)</h2>
<p>Salah had a fantastic game in fantasy terms, netting a goal and an assist.</p>
<p>Despite not having his most prolific game, he was still a magnet for fantasy points, having set up <strong>Trent Alexander-Arnold's</strong> goal early in the first half, before converting from the penalty spot.</p>
<p>The 43% of fantasy managers who don't own Salah will be looking at this result and fearing going without him in FPL Gameweek 1: he would have accumulated 13 points in this performance.</p>
<p>Mo Salah definitely hit the ground running in the 2021/22 season, having had a full pre-season - and that's a trend that could continue in this campaign.</p>
<p>His wayward form at the end of last campaign after a punishingly long season is a thing of the past.</p>

<h2>3. Julian Alvarez (£6.5m)</h2>
<p>Man City's young Argentine striker Alvarez made his debut in this game.</p>
<p>He signed in January but fulfilled his season at River Plate on a loan deal. He looks to be the perfect player to fill the void left by the departures of <strong>Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m)</strong> and <strong>Raheem Sterling (£10.0m)</strong>.</p>
<p>He arrived in the game as a substitute in the 58th minute for Riyad Mahrez and quickly made his mark, bundling in a rebound from close range after Phil Foden's shot was saved.</p>
<p>It's clear that there's plenty of competition still among Manchester City's wingers though.</p>
<h2>4. Darwin Nunez (£9.0m)</h2>
<p>Nunez made his mark in his first competitive game for Liverpool, scoring the winning goal.</p>
<p>Some fantasy managers may have been worried to see <strong>Roberto Firmino (£8.0m)</strong> in the starting 11, with Jurgen Klopp rewarding the Brazilian for his efforts of 2021/22 in his line-up.</p>
