<h2>COVID-19 Implications:</h2>
<p>Unprecedented time called for unprecedented measures, and it&#8217;s no different in Fantasy Premier League this time around. We have been awarded a second &#8220;free hit&#8221;.</p>
<p>Some will see it as beneficial for themselves whereas for others it will be a hindrance. Nonetheless, the free hit is arguably the most powerful chip in the game, when you combine the fact you now have two of them alongside the chaos the virus will almost inevitably bring; huge opportunities will present themselves.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2>The Fundamentals of the Free Hit:</h2>
<p>Firstly, the Free Hit is a chip which allows you for one Gameweek only to build a completely new side, &#8220;free of hits&#8221; which complies with the budget and three players from one team ruling. Ultimately allowing you to take advantage of the fixtures in that particular Gameweek before returning to your prior squad.</p>
<p>Historically the Free Hit has proved most popular, but more importantly most successful in &#8220;Blank and Double Gameweeks&#8221; (the former being my desired strategy).</p>
<p>One particular thing to note about the Free Hit in this case is that they can&#8217;t be used in consecutive Gameweeks. So if we do get a Double Gameweek 21 and 22, you will need to plan and prioritise accordingly.</p>
<p>Whilst they aren&#8217;t officially announced, I use Ben Crellin&#8217;s excellent work as a fundamental basis for this article which is discussed in greater depth below.</p>

<h2>Optimal Strategy &#8211; Ben Crellin&#8217;s brilliance</h2>
<p>Now before anything I must say, the last two seasons of FPL, if not the last few weeks have shown us that the game is very unpredictable. So whilst the planning for now is optimal in theory, you will need a certain bit of flexibility should anything change.</p>
<p>Using <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/ben-crellins-fpl-transfer-planning-sheet/">Ben Crellin&#8217;s excellent work</a> we can confirm a <strong>big</strong> &#8220;Double Gameweek 22&#8221;, a <strong>big</strong> &#8220;Double Gameweek 36&#8221; and a <strong>big</strong> &#8220;Blank Gameweek 30&#8221;.</p>

<h4>What constitutes a &#8220;<strong>big</strong>&#8221; Double/Blank Gameweek?</h4>
<p>When the Double Gameweek consists of 13 fixtures or more, and the Blank Gameweek consists of seven fixtures or less.</p>
<p>There will be other smaller Blank Gameweeks and Double Gameweeks however these will be the most prevalent time to use your chips. Without going into too much detail here&#8217;s a strategy which is looking optimal chip wise:</p>
<ul>
<li>Free Hit &#8211; Double Gameweek 22</li>
<li>Free Hit &#8211; Blank Gameweek 30</li>
<li>Wildcard &#8211; Sometime before Gameweek 36 to set yourself up for a bench boost (the best time for everyone&#8217;s squad will be very different).</li>
<li>Bench Boost &#8211; Double Gameweek 36</li>
<li>Triple Captain &#8211; Use in one of the smaller Double Gameweeks.</li>
</ul>
<p>The fixtures postponed so far (of which at least three will move into Double Gameweek 22 but note it&#8217;s extremely unlikely/certain a team won&#8217;t have a triple Gameweek):</p>
<ul>
<li>Burnley vs Tottenham</li>
<li>Brighton vs Tottenham</li>
<li>Burnley vs Watford</li>
<li>Brentford vs Manchester Utd</li>
<li>Leicester vs Tottenham</li>
<li>Manchester Utd vs Brighton</li>
<li>Southampton vs Brentford</li>
<li>Watford vs Crystal Palace</li>
<li>West Ham vs Norwich</li>
<li>Everton vs Leicester</li>
<li>Aston Villa vs Burnley</li>
<li>Arsenal vs Liverpool</li>
</ul>

<h2>Potential teams to target:</h2>
<p>Spurs and Manchester Utd are both the more obvious teams which you would look to acquire assets from.</p>
<p>I particularly like the look of West Ham <strong>(Jarrod Bowen &#8211; £6.5m)</strong> purely on a fixtures basis as if they do get a Double Gameweek they would host both Leeds and Norwich.</p>
<p>Leicester would face Burnley and Spurs should their Double Gameweek come to fruition, simply given the form of their attacking assets I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s an attractive move.</p>

<h2><strong>Conclusion:</strong></h2>
<p>There&#8217;s potential for Double Gameweek 21 as well but with a lower ceiling so I&#8217;d stick with using it in Double Gameweek 22 for now.</p>
<p>I imagine most still have their free hit chip, but for those who don&#8217;t I&#8217;d actually save it till Blank Gameweek 30 and use free transfers to navigate the big upcoming double.</p>
